Here is what I saw. The plastic shield was burning and melting before they made entry. Actually it is burning before they advanced to the area where the room was. No one was hurt because they did have PPE on. But it shouldn't have happened. They didn't need to enter that room to extinguish the fire. While the PPE did its job, they didn't assess their situation like they should have. Being a Firefighter is as much about know what is going on around you as it is putting wet stuff on red stuff.
AT 3:08 you can see the guy wearing the white helmet(i won't call him a chief 'cause he don't deserve it) push the FF in the back to "go in and get it!" This is his fault. They could have put this out from their first position- do not take unnecessary risks.
WERE THE FUCK IS THE RIT LINE!?!?! OMG thats why you always have 2 in case the attack line fails or something like this happens or you need to go in and do a rapid rescue
what a bunch of fools in front of all those people, not sure how much these guys know about 3d firefighting. also im sure we get those flames/ gases to a safe level like out before we make our way in! and for those silly comments like they had PPE on..... level 2/structural gear does not make you fire proof you can not go into direct flame contact nor near too much radiant heat come on guys!
next time maybe they'll use glass as a smoke baffle. just looking at the plexy melt made me hurt lol .....still nice live demo of the diffrence with and without sprinklers.....
Lol, I actually think it's hilarious the way the guy gently pats the others flames out, then the third FF, while trying to point out that the second is on fire, finally grabs the hose himself and puts him out. It's almost like Larry, Curly, and Moe.
well i fell kinnda bad cause they had a little stage fright and the should of whent from top to bottom with the hose. and i feel bad for them because the chief looked and sound pissed but why did they need the plastic any way
Geez they spared no expense with those smoke alarms. Instead of going with $10 alarms from a Home Depot type store, they spent at least $300 on both!, since each runs around $150 a piece.
@futurefirefighter93 You are retarded. If you want black gear go buy it. I'll take my tans so I can tell they're clean. Hope they checked it after their burn to make sure it wasn't damaged. There is no good reason why they went in the way they did in a training scenario. Real world is totally different.
I think it's funny how every month I read "Rube's Rules of Leadership" in Firehouse Magazine. How can a man write articles on how to be a good leader when he is the most hated man in his 2000+ employee fire department?
The Plexiglas should not have been used. That was the cause and only problem I seen. Well guess this bring a hold new meaning to the chief is a hot head.
P.S: to bad the chief got his nice white helmet burned (sarcastic).
really? ya'll are being too harsh. i just wanna know why are they having this demonstration and talking during it while they are at a deaf college. makes no sense! hahah.
Most training accidents are preventable and this situation was very preventable. NFPA 1403, if it would have been followed would have assisted in making this situation look less like a circus. The Union wants to blame Cheif Rubin, but the chief on the line should have his ass handed to him for his poor judgement.
Yes, Stuff happens when we go into a structure that is on fire, however this was a training fire/demo. There was no reason to go interior on this. Risk a lot to save a lot, risk a little to save a little, and risk nothing to save nothing. For those of you that have never put on gear you should keep your comments to your self and for the brothers and sisters out there that think this was not really a big deal quit making the profession look bad.
the one thing I observed was the smoke obscured the burning plastic. haha but put the chief out!! Yes, they can walk on water, but no bueno when they are on fire.
Everyone is an expert. Too many chiefs not enough firemen. No one here was there no one knows their directions. Watch, learn, and say thanks to a firemen. Don't be so damn critical!
Clearly most of the people commenting have no idea what it's like to be a firefighter. Sometimes when you're fighting a structure fire, shit melts and drips onto you and keeps burning. And in this case it wasn't surprising because in the breathing apparatus mask and helmet it can be hard to see above you (to where the shield was burning and melting).
This happens all the time in the real world. You put out the melted stuff and keep working. That's why we wear the PPE. Not a big deal at all.
That's why fire fighter helmets have long brims on the back and liners to cover the neck and back half of the head. To keep from hot water and other bad stuff from dropping down into the bunker gear.
NO reason to advance into that demo room... NO REASON WHATSOEVER.
tunnel vision is something we have all had at one point or another but we need to be aware that it can happen at any time and that its VERY VERY DANGEROUS.
wow...no need for them to actually step into that prop...especially with the plastic still on fire above their heads. 100% preventable...now they just look like idiots. good thing theyre ok...
Wow, I am a firefighter and I am all for sprinklers in large occupancy buildings, but damn that is a lot of water. I saw a single sprinkler head fill a small laundry room at a hotel to about 8 inches of water flowing out the back door, but the hotel didn't burn down. Good job not over reacting and causing more problems for yourself. That is why FULL protective equipment is so important.
surely it would have made sense to put the dripping, burning plastic out first ... common sense?
clarkjkent1984 3 days ago
No reason to go in, they could've knock out that fire right from the starting point as if they were standing at the bedroom's door.

Where was the back up line?
Where was the safety officer?
Why go inside that quick? Knock it down more its not going to run off and make you chase it down.
To the ones laughing and making fun of these firefighters sit in your chair and do nothing to help your fellow man.
