  • The guitar sounds like a Jimi Hendrix riff.

  • I love when people say "rare" to something on youtube... Its almost like a gay guy going into a gay bar and announcing he's gay.

  • @kermet12345

The COMPLETE song is what is rare. Not this clip. Try not being a jackass next time you comment.

  • @blacksabfan no,this clip is rare, not every sabbath fan has heard it,theres and endless internet to surf on.I have been a sabbath fan since the mid 70's never heard it till today. And from what I just saw posted its all thats ever been recorded.

  • @kermet12345 Haha, thats right. A ' rare utube song ' is a great oxymoron, much like the term ...'jumbo shrimp'

  • RESPECT THE OZZMAN

  • Very cool. Sounds like its from their Earth period.

  • It's like hearing Sabs unplugged!!! Cool post; thanks

  • I wonder if this was made while they were Earth (band name before Black Sabbath)

  • FUCKKKKKK i wannna hear it alllllllllllll man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! long live SABBAth

  • addictive

  • awsome light riff :D

  • thnx for this

  • damn... way to short.

  • If they could find all these ancient Sabbath tracks and clean them up a bit and release them, the album would immediately go platinum.

  • I've uploaded Norman Haines version. Check it out, it's the full song.

  • Also in contradictory statement, Iommi also said sabbath wanted to release their own songs which is why "when I came down" "the rebel" and "song for jim" weren't released. But on the debut album, the songs "Evil woman" and "the warning" were not written by sabbath!

I'm not slagging them off cos I f'king love sabbath - just trying to be informative.

  • There is a full version of this but either Norman haines (the guy who wrote it) or jim Simpson (sabbaths old manager) has it I think. But according to Iommi, none of the band ever wanted it released because it doesn't represent the sabbath sound, it was just a demo to give to record companies. Shame really.

  • cool fuckers sabbath

  • holy fuck i get pissed when i remember thisisn't a full song this would of easily been one of there best

  • oh the pain !!!! that must exist somewhere, but hey we should be thankfull that ozzy lived beyond recording anything !

  • The whole song must exists somewhere.

Sharon knows... This is a studio recording and tapes like that doesn´t just dissapear.

Great song; why didn´t they put it on vinyl?

  • NORMAN HAINES BAND XD

  • Awesome! Never heard this before - thanks for uploading it!

  • The fellas on the back look like Mexicans. If you give them a "sombrero" that's it then.

  • @ptftulsa62 Geezer is Irish, Bill ward is english, tony is italian and ozzy is english.

You must have something against English people to make up such bullshit.

Just look at Butler, I have never seen anyone from Spain look like him and Butler is his real last name. Osbourne was brought to England from Normandy, it was originally a French name. All four were born in England.

  • @ptftulsa62 your a fuckin idiot

  • oh my god I AM SO FUCKING PISSED THIS ISN"T A FULL FUCKING SONG!!!!!!!!

  • Ozzy's voice sounds older in his youth especially pre Sabbath one and Sabbath one than it ever has since! Wonder if he lost the ability to sound like that or just doesnt realize his voice on songs like Warning were almost better than his routine sound!

  • come on you guys stop putting this stuff up im gonna get fired because of you tube too f much thanks this was too cool.. reminds me of the attention albums of the 70 s

  • pure fucking power

  • I really shouldn't have clicked on this, I'm hooked on it!! I really wish there was a full version of it, thank you for putting this up though! :)

  • if you come here to talk bad about Ozzy go away ...hehe.. Ozzy is awesome always.

  • 11:21 Ozzy's voice is beautiful!!!

  • 0:11 - 0:21 I mean

  • for once

  • Another priceless find. Ozzy's voice was so eerie and unique back then...never heard anything like it before or since.

  • i love this song, wasnt the full 2 minute song released onto their demo in 69? how can nobody have the full song? anybody know

  • wow. the early sabbath. you hear a bit of blues inspirations. what a fuckin great song....!

  • Best unreleased Sabbath song!

  • i likes ozzys voice in this song

  • I like Ozzy's voice in almost any song ;-))

  • OK, when you are sixty after 30 years of alcohol and drugs abuse, try to do 5 crazy gigs a week around the world for 2 years and then we´ll see how you will be able to sing with no mistakes.

  • Just to react on "Ozzy is a good or not good singer"...He´s not a good singer technically, but he has perfect voice, he sounds perfect, he sounds very raw, awesome, animal, and he´s a perfect interpreter. You can be the best technical singer in the world and if your voice and interpretation is boring, nobody will ever listen to you. Important is what you hear, not how people make the sound. And he can´t sing nowadays?

  • @unikad Well put my friend!

  • @unikad

lol good has no meaning in music what is good? it is all subjective to the listener

dont get all pissy liek the guy who posted this im just saying

if you enjoy his singing think why, bcuz its not always very clear what he is saying it it almost liek when ozzy opens his mouth another instrument is playing as well

  • Im 32 in 7th grade I got detention for writing "OZZY IS GOD" on the blackboard NO REGRETS...

  • HAHAHA

  • Comment removed

  • hahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BrokenSG So around the release of No More Tears?

  • @thewolffebros Nah 7th grade was 1988/89. My first Ozzy show was 1992 No More Tours at Starplex in Dallas w/ Alice in Chains and Blind Melon. However, I was a toddler obsessed by Black Sabbath!

  • Amazing piece of history.. Thanks so much............. Ozzy had a great voice for Sabbath... When will people learn that you can't change someone else's mind....Like what you like and don't worry about other people. What are you going to do, Kill me 'cause i say ozzy could sing with Sabbath?? People get all bent out of shape when someone doesn't like what they like.Hey kids IT'S CALLED AN OPINION. I think Ozzy is horrible in concert and always was but in the studio he sounds great , even today

  • Ozzy is not a "good" singer. But his voice is perfect for the music.

  • Ozzy WAS a good singer in this era. he CANNOT sing now, though.

  • damn.. this is sweet. how good is ozzy's voice aye. Sounds like a properly trained singer

  • ozzy is the best singer EVER .. oh yeah in the 60's and 70's

  • Even better than Robert Plant?

  • Duh! Ian Gillian on Born Again is better than Robert Plant!

  • ian gillian on there first album is almost as good as rob halford 9.5 for gillian 10 for halford

  • Eh, apples to oranges, I love judas priest (sin after sin personal favorite) but I would not compare ian's work on that album to anything priest has done, He didn't really scream as he did in deep purple. Born again is really iffy in my opinion

  • In your opinion.... There is not a chart or a list or anything that say's he is .I loved ozzy with Sabbath. He influenced me so much when I was young. I never tried to sound like him but it came out that way... I don't like the way he took care of himself though and now people make fun of him. I could turn you on to a lot of great singers from the 70's that you have never heard, So to say he is the best is just a personal opinion. PEACE

  • I can't understand why some people say Ozzy couldn't sing - I think he had a great voice, really strong and mature even at an early age. Even when loud, it never sounded strained, and his diction must have been good, because you can usually understand the lyrics quite clearly - which is not always the case with rock music.

  • lol if ozzy couldnt sing .. then nobody can sing xD ... ozzy is the best .. he is god .. fucking great voice ...

  • If Ozzy couldn't sing, than nobody can sing?

    ...facepalm.

  • yeah

  • most excellent - mr. burns

  • sumone must have it for sale for sum kinda outrageous price LMFAO

  • Jim Simpson owns the acetates of 3 Sabbath originals. But it is well documented that Sabbath themselves don't want them to see the light of day.

  • lol Ozzy said hes put landmines around his house in case he tried to release it :D

  • ozzy doesnt want them seeing the light of day. the other members couldnt care less. i dont even think ozzy cares its sharon who bought the tapes and jim has them locked up somewhere. he probably jams out with it all day taunting us from the inside of his home blasting it lol

  • stoneaxe did it recently but the song was written for another goon that slaughtered it an sounded gay

  • This song should have made the album wat the hell eh

  • i think ozzys voice never sounded better in Tony Iommis sabbath bloody sabbath song

  • wow this sounds cool. And that's probably the best voice Ozzy has ever had. Sounds Hendrix like

  • i could imagine hendrix singing this

  • To me this sounds like it could have been on any Sabbath album from Master Of Reality to Sabotage! Ozzy's voice is closer to that era too. Great stuff.

  • What I wouldn't do to hear the whole song, such a shame it's nowhere to be found.

  • this is the full version!!!!

they recorded only this little part!

there isn't more part from this song!

    :(

  • Wrong. This is only about 1/3 of the song.

  • they recorded a full song???

as i know they wrote and recorded only this piece!

i would love to hear the full version!

  • the full song was renamed WHEN I COME DOWN an was made for another guy ages ago but it sounds like electro pop or some shit check the band STONEAXE when i came down an ul get the jist of what it shud be like lad :P

  • @blacksabfan

    So where's the rest?

He's talking about the recording, not the song in itself.

  • Not true, they just haven't released the full version yet. There is one in existance, but it hasn't leaked yet.

  • that's great!

i hope they will release it soon!

  • Stone Axe's version of this song is great!

  • I Have most of tne Sweets/candys whith Sabbath inkluding "The Rebel" and more but is there any pretty please that can add this "national hymn" to me? I know I`m not the only one

  • really great!

  • This would've fit in well on their first album.

  • Agreed

  • Great! I wonder if anything earlier exsists/

like before they were sabbath? earth...

  • My buddy's band, Stone Axe, recently played this live. See the video response!

  • Sounds like Earth was a happening little band for the time.

I wonder whatever became of them...

  • blues band earth**

  • i can just imagine this song being shown to ozzy and he'll be like... when the fuck did i record this shit ? nevah heard it in my life haha

  • There was an Iommi/Ozzy interview on ROCKLINE in 2004 where a caller asked them about this song. Ozzy replied by saying something along the lines of "Did we do WICD? I don't think we ever did that one but I remember thee song." Then he sang a couple verses from it. It was a great moment. I wonder if he's since heard this clip.

  • good shit--bluesy and moody--true rock/metal!

  • In the meanwhile, could anyone tell me any good depressive blues-rock to listen to, similar to Black Sabbaths early (early) stuff?

  • Try CIRITH UNGOL's "King of the Dead" lp. It's not blues rock but very doomy!

  • Try Pentagram.

  • Alright then...how about ST. VITUS?

  • Haven't listened to much of theirs. I wasn't crazy about it, but you're right, Cirith Ungol is awesome.

  • thats a good song and true lyrics

  • Try George Brigman's most recent CD, Raga In Skull.

  • solitude, planet caravan, snowblind, changes, the warning

  • Black Sabbath were depressive? dude, the only depressive thing on here is your comment

  • sounds like it should have been on vol. 4

  • PLEASE REALEASE ALL THAT STUFF

  • Electric blues, as far as the collective realm of metal is concerned, sabbath is the inception and we are all indebted to the seminal brilliance they are.

  • Theres a band called Stone Axe that did a killer cover of this song. You can find them on myspace

  • when you said stone axe did a killer cover of this song you werent kidding !

    its great !

  • i still never see why this didnt make it onto the first album

  • i agree 100%

  • i still don't see why someone with the full version hasn't posted this for other sabbath fans to enjoy.

i come home everyday from work and check to see if a full one's been uploaded.

  • Sorry to break it to you buddy, but you should stop checking for it, its not going to pop up anytime soon, or possibly ever for that matter.

  • y not the rebel did

  • Thats a different story, the rebel was accidently leaked and released from a unknown source. I think that after that mishap (or so they would call it, because im damn happy that happened lol) they're really going to keep a song for jim and when I came down under tight guard. But who knows, maybe well get lucky sometime along the line.

  • This is really awesome. I commented once before. It is worth commenting again. Seriously, this is my favorite Sabbath song ever. I really really would love to listen to the whole song. I'm attempting to learn this on guitar.

  • I completely agree with you. Actually at work, I just keep replaying this over and over, its nuts but this song is brilliant.

  • one day they will find more than a snippet or sample of those rare songs!

  • Iommi should realease those rarities

  • I can only imagine the tons of stuff that didn't make it on to be released, but are now burried somewhere (in Tony's closet, probably). I do wish more of that would be made available to the public. Also, Tony kept saying that he was thinking of putting a Blues-Jazz-Rock album together - based on stuff he had recorded over the years, I wonder if this is ever going to happen - that'll be great.

  • first time ive heard this , im no stranger to sabbath , where is this from plz ????

  • Why does everyone confuse me with a search engine?

Seriously, about 90% of the questions I get could be answered with a simple google search. Try "Black Sabbath" + "When I Came Down".

  • Dear search engine, I appreciate all you've done now may I please have a hamburger today that I will gladly pay you for on Friday.

  • Iommi's sound is deeeeeep!!

  • You can tell Iommi recorded this using his Strat. That even sounded heavy.

  • Absolutely. Good ear!

  • Early Sabbath actually sounds quite a bit like the very earliest Jethro Tull records.

Also,a band called Blodwyn Pig had the same kinda heavy blues sound too.

  • Blodwyn Pig was Mick Abrahams' band. He was the first guitarist for Jethro Tull and on their first album. Iommi was his replacement in Tull, prior to Martin Barre joining.

  • It is very Blodwyn-esque, isn't it?

  • Indeed I think so...I mean Sabbath didn't have a saxophone but the guitar, bass and drums have that same murky and deep bluesy sound that Blodwyn and other bands from late 60s Britain had. I suppose vintage tube amps and primitive recording techniques just added so much to that sound back then.

  • It truly did give it a rich fullness! I'm not so keen on today's digital recording, leaves every instrument sounding either very stark or very overproduced. It's missing that bottom-end sound.

  • They had a sax player and a slide guitar player VERY early on for a short period.

  • Based on when this would have been recorded - Pre "Black Sabbath" album session in '69 surely? - I remember reading an interview with Iommi suggesting he only changed from his white Strat (usual Hendrix homage) shortly before or during the recording of the 1st Record - as a PU broke. Anyway, I was thinking that this sounds remarkably strat like. Thoughts anyone?

  • Anyway, I suppose an actual point to that would have been that it's wierd to think of Tony playing away on a Strat. Kinda adds to my image of it though

  • Send the complete one to your e-mail adress.

Instead of holding back this and just take it for myself like the owner of the maybe really only existing track I share it with you sabbath fans and say again: I did not know about that! So enjoy this or not, it's an expensive fake anyway because it costs me 100 euros I won't get back now by donations of fans...

  • You have an e-mail ;) It's just a little clip with the last part of the chorus and than the guitar riffs start again and ozzy sings the first words of the second verse thats allready the same as the first. all verses are the same, three times.

May you won't believe my words, I even can't believe it till now too but thats really the only for me existing copy of the song which is complete. maybe the vinyl is released just for one time and this is a copy of it.

Ifound it and took the chance

  • The 6 seconds you sent me could have been put up on YouTube without anyone hearing anything more than the 6 seconds you sent me. The problem is that it is taken from this clip posted by BLACKSABFAN. All you did was edit then replay the opening guitar part. And no, the lyrics are not completey the same on the other verses as you thought That is why you didn't included any vocals. Listen to Norman Haines version and you'll see. I called your bluff and you didn't deliver as I knew you wouldn't.

  • Correct, if this guy was so hellbent on making sure he got something out of this song, he wouldn't be yanking our chains by sending us stuff that doesn't prove anything. One line from the second verse would of been sufficient. Obvious fraud.

  • It's just the version I got on tape by a collector. I never heard the Norman Haines version. Payed 100 euros for fake obvious now.

  • Now that you recognize it as fake why not post it (the entire fake) here as "video response." This way no one else will get swindled by this conman. We're all curious as to what this fake sounds like. You already sent me your cut and edited 6 seconds version. How about the entire fake?????

  • If I now post the complete one I will never see any donations, so if you want to check it out, please give me your e-mail adress and I send you the half of the song.

  • I was only saying to post 1 word Oz sings that's not on this version. Not the whole or even half of it.

  • You have a PM ;)

  • I will consider giving you a donation if you upload a very, very smal portion of the song where Ozzy sings something/anything that is not included on the snippet here. Please let me know if this is possible. I don't care if it's only 5 seconds as long as Ozzy so much as sings one word that is not included here. This should be easy to do and convincing enough to where other Sabbath fans may wish to chip in donations as well.

  • Hello

I have the whole song now but won't up it for free. It costs me some money and patience over the years but got a copy of it now from someone who found it. The source is unknown but it's exactly that song. For alittel payment I would up it here, and it's not just for me to earn alot of money for it now, but to get some money in what I spent just for the copy.

If you wnat it, I have it now!

  • How much do you want for it and how to you wish to go about receiving payment if a deal is struck?

  • Damn this is rockin. Long live Sabbath the kings of metal

  • I wish they had put this on the first album!! I wonder how many other tunes like this are locked away?

  • Tony Iommi has a kind of playing that you can recognize just for listening

  • Black sabbath , yes, led zeppelin, pink floyd, who, beatles, deep purple you can expect always for rarities and nice songs

  • Why doesn't he upload it to a site and let people download it. There's no point in hoarding the song. It will never be released by the band so the only chance we'll ever hear the complete version is from Joe. No offense by why hide this track away from the public? Unless you plan on selling it in the future.

  • Yeah, you'd have to sell it for a lump sum, and at the same time you'd also probably lose the rights to do anything with it (and if you did sell it and THEN release it you'd face legal action). You wouldn't be able to sell it multiple times because someone else might post it.

  • Traders don't buy or sell material anyway, it's simply not ethical. It's sort of a hard spot to be in, and personally I'd just release the damn thing because I wouldn't want the burden selling it and not being able to do anything with it after I sold it. I really can't place a monetary value on something like that.

  • This would make a good post for my new blog...I could discuss this for hours. It's not a simple issue and there's a lot of stuff that comes into play.

  • I agree with you 100%. I see no reason to hoard this song away like a dragon with treasure. What's the harm in making a few thousand people happy? I'd like to wake up and be able to hear a brand new Sabbath track. But it's like the people who have "The Rebel" who hide it away. The band will never release it so why not post it around on a few fan sites for people who really want to hear it. Unless it's illegal I see no reason to hide it from the public.

  • I just think life is too short. Despite the song's perceived value, there's no way keeping it to yourself or even selling it once will be worth it. It's not like one can retire off of it. I've had this debate on numerous occasions with some of the Lizzy fans too. It really belongs in the public domain...sort of like rare art and artifacts belong in public museums. I've always wanted people to enjoy the music I like as much as I enjoy it, which is why I post stuff to begin with.

  • Amen...I don't think I could have said it better myself. I emailed the owner once and he told me this song was "too valuable" to release to the public. How strange is that.

  • Well, if it's so valuable, I'm surprised the Osbourne Camp hasn't approached him and given him $ for it. Or maybe they have. That's why Dumfries '69 (barring Early One Morning) hasn't seen the light of day. Sharon Osbourne swooped in and gave the taper/owner of the show a nice check for it. Probably won't see that again now. I know every person has a price, but mine would have to be pretty damn high to get me NOT to post something. A few thousand dollars wouldn't be worth it.

  • I have a bad feeling lately... Joe said he'd release this as soon as he could find a good way to do it... He said this over five years ago... I'm losing hope... I do, however, know the song structure from reading something by someone who has heard it, so I might try to piece together a makeshift version from this... Only real problem would be the ending.

  • Ugh... Something I just realized... Even if I put together a version with only one verse of the lyrics repeated three times, I still won't have the solo that is supposedly in the song near the end... Why, Joe, WHY??

  • you're talking about Joe Sieglar

  • right?

  • No. D'Agostino.

  • Amazing, almost reminds me of Ozzy's vocal power in Behind the Wall of Sleep..I love this stuff! Black Sabbath Forever, and thanks for posting this man.

  • One of the best Black Sabbath songs ever! Too bad only a snippet is here.

  • i was just fucking kidding about having the actual song lol, if you guys where really sabbath fans you guys would really know that NO ONE has this song!

  • I am really a Sabbath fan and there are a few people that do have that song. At least one for sure, and theres a good chance a few other people have it as well.

  • i have the actual song! its fucking great!

  • can you send it to me lol? PLEASE?

  • lulz what a fucking douchebag and a liar

only a handful of people own this in the world

this will probably never surface along with song for jim :[[

    tabs for this anyone !?

    TAB IT

  • He probably has the Norman Haines/Locomotive version. While it's not that common, I have seen that circulated over the net.

  • yeah true i take that back

cause he said the actual song lol

and i heard that version your referring to

  • where can i find the whole song?
