Err you guys don't understand, when the tsunami hit you have literally seconds to pack up and go. I believe they just didn't have the time to let the dogs free. Note that many of the residents did not expect the tsunami to reach that much in-land because they had built numerous sea-walls and tsunami evacuation centres (many of which were destroyed and people perished inside).

I would rather die hugging my dogs than leaving without them and that's exactly what I did during the last big earthquake at my city . The door was jammed anyway but If I had the chance escaping through the window I would have saved my pets first

I'd honestly grab my family member before I would grab my pet. But if there was enough time..... I'd set all of my pets free in a situation like that. I have many of them. Rabbits, cats, dogs, ducks, chickens, birds and goats. I'd probably save the baby goat. When he gets excited, he still stumbles... But either way, animals do supposedly know with their natural instincts... So I would free them and help my family.

In the ideal world you live in perhaps but in the real world that wouldnt happen. Adoptions, fertility drugs...all ways to monetarily obtain kids(besides the illegal ways). A life is a life, and all should be seen as equally valuable. Since I have 3 cats and 1 dog, I would try my best to get at least my dog and one of my cats, if I had to escape running in a matter of second before the tsunami kill me. I guess this happened to a lot of people, so hard :(

Untie, untie, and never tie the dogs in the first place. dogs do have a better surviving skills, so if people do not have the time to save them, just never tie dogs please and make sure leave the doors open, so they can leave. BTW, I would never leave my precious pet behind. Lord, please protect helpless animals that affected by this tsunami.

This is a great reason for dog training. You say come and they come, no problem, you say stay they stay for a reasonable time. My dog swould be there to protect my children from strangers and not tied up in the yard.

a father in good conscience would not sacrifice his kids to save the dog. perhaps they were in a hurry and his one thought was "get my family out of here". i'm sure he regrets leaving the dogs, but we should just be thankful that this family's dogs were ok and unharmed. :D
