  • I don't doubt the guy's strength, but what the fuck is "Continental clean" - a convenient term to describe one's inability to do normal clean ?

  • @valgez1

just google it! But in order to clean a fixed weighted object as smoothly as possible.....in this case an axle(2 inches in diameter and non-rotating) one would typically have to continental.

  • @ryanb7337 If I google it, then I'll find out what Olympic lifters do, how much they clean, snatch, and jerk. Besides, try doing it without a belt, go raw.

  • @valgez1 A continental clean and press is a 3 movement lift, first you rest the bar on your belt or your gut if your one of those guys, then you clean it off your belt/gut, and press it.

  • @NJnaturalBB I understand what it is, what I say is it's just a surrogate for Olympic clean and Press, invented by people who cannot do it properly. Olympic lifter will clean more weight than those guys will "continental clean" - But those guys just cannot accept the fact that they cannot, so they invent "workaround" to feed the ego.

  • @valgez1

it is a non revolving bar...you have to clean it this way...olympic forn is not as efficiant. I am an olympic lifter man so I get what you are saying but it does not apply to the axle.

  • ITS AN AXLE..What the hell is wrong with you people!? This is strongman!! Get the weight overhead with a lockout and you have a good lift!! Dont have to be pretty!! Now excuse me, i got to post a comment on people playing golf, give them some advise..I dont know shit about playing golf, but that doesent seem to mather at all...

  • well that wasnt actually a clean n nor a jerk either but good work though

  • that's 100kg each site 10kg x 4 + bar 20kg, but dont worry i will forgive you ryan -> anabolics make people stupid

By the way you should not take anabolics before you reached 18 years, you could get major health problems in a few years :/

  • @BozzBalkan

Each SIDE (not "site") of the AXLE (it is not a BAR) has on it 1-25kg bumper plate, 2-20kg bumper plates and 1-10kg bumper plate + the AXLE which weighs 15kgs. This is a grand total of 165kgs! Yay! Also thank you for the advice on anabolics. I guess since I was 26 years old in this video (31 years old now) I did'nt have to worry about all the major health problems I should be riddled with right now!

  • @ryanb7337 Well its not an axle, it's a barbell first of all. I doubt that is 165kg and by the way, you still get major health problems if you started with 20 or 26 or whatever you fuckin are. I got no respect for fucked up people like you who have to take anabolic steroids in order to achive something. In the end you have no fuckin idea of strongman or bodybuilding i fuckin own you in every exercise, and i never took any drugs like you bitch ass niggar

  • @BozzBalkan

Dude you dont even know what the fuck an axle is. post a video of you doing something....like setting a world record or something like i did. Fucking douche nobody!

  • @BozzBalkan are you trying to say that BB and WSM don't use steroids? Because that makes you sound fucking retarded. And another thing lets see your videos of all these lifts please. Oh and by the way the bar didn't rotate during the lift so it mush be an AXEL. If you knew as much about BB and WSM you should know that and respect any fellow lifter regaurdless of strength.

  • Comment removed

  • Are you partly norwegian?

    Good job mate!

  • i think a few people here need to research the continental lift and the 2 inch bar before posting ignorant shit

  • Hey continental kifts are ugly by nature, good on ya bro

  • Weight doesn't spin on an axle, the rotation inertia can snap your wrist if you don't know what your doing. You got my respect.

  • why would you start with reverse grip?? your not even doing rdl

  • @G2Force

    HUH????

  • @G2Force

it is a 2inch thick non rotating bar so grabbing it and cleaning it in a concentuional mannter is pretty impossible once you reach a certain weight.

  • @ryanb7337 watch some classic lifting videos

  • @mescalito00

    and?

  • @ryanb7337 they used thick, non-rotating bars and did more weight. of course, i'm very impressed with your strenghth. i just don't agree with what you said.

  • @mescalito00

I am not trying to be an ass but who is "they" and how much more weight did they do man? I am only asking cuz I set the world record in this event and if that is not true then I would want whoever rightfully earned it to be given credit. Currently the world record is held by Zydrunas.

  • @ryanb7337 well that's what i get for trusting second hand info....

i was talking about people like paul anderson, who did his lift with a bar that didn't bend, but it obviously wasn't that thick. I take it back. :)

  • @ryanb7337 World record in this? lol

  • @illouie

    yes

  • @ryanb7337 Man all this hating people are doing is absolute bullshit. That was a good lift and later you will make it a perfect one. You seam like you know what your talking about, and I don't think anyone studies all sports of the Iron Brotherhood as much as i do. Great lift in terms of weight though. You'll hit this with perfect form soon enough. If you already haven't. Noticed this video is a little dated, do you still train like this? Please respond. I would like to know more about your WR.

  • lol so ugly, but indeed successful

  • DUDE, you almost ran out of track! Nice lift. Haters will hate, mass is a way of life, STAY STRONG

  • sick work dude, lucky you didn't keep going forward, then it could of got REAL UGLY haha

  • Those are Yord plates. If you remember the Miller Light commercial from the 80s with Frank Zane you'll know what I'm talking about.

  • Shit, I didn't think it was possible to grind a clean and jerk at the clean part.. Press was super solid though, sick strenght ;)

  • does anyone know how i can get some information bout starting off in a strongman competition????or how to start in one

  • such fuckin idiots. its a strongman event with an axle. not a little 29mm thick bar. as long as the weight ends up above ur head and locked out its successful. it doesnt matter what technique is used. quality lift bakke

  • Whats with all the shit talking here? 365lb AXLE overhead is no fuckin joke. I am sure Bakke is even stronger now. Piss off haters!

  • @Met666 Yeah man the video is 3 years old....I hope I have gotten stronger since then!!

  • @Met666 You are SOOO right. Haters are always gonna hate. Who gives a shit how ugly the lift is, thats some SERIOUS weight.

  • @angelssuckass You sir are an idiot and know nothing about the sport of strongman!

  • @ryanb7337 the grip he used is just another technique. that was amazing man. keep it going. i roughed up my rotator cuff a bit. what do you think i should do for it?

  • @angelssuckass

I have to agree with ryanb7337. You are clueless about strongman. That was an axle clean and press. Take a look at the bar, much thicker. He used proper technique to get that weight up. If you can clean it without resting it great, but when you start getting really heavy this is the correct way. It is not a conventional clean and press! What sickens me is your ignorance angels. Google axle clean and educate yourself a little so you can stop making an ass of yourself.

  • @angelssuckass not a powerclean

  • that definately isn't that much cause the bar doesn't even bend worth crap and he couldn't get it up like that if it was really as heavy as implied

  • @Jared2324

Come one dude....it is an AXLE! Axle does not bend or flex or rotate! That is why this is a discipline in the sport of strongman. This video was shot when I first started strongman...and shortly before I set the NAS National record at 363lbs and a year and a half prior to me setting the World Record in this event.

  • @ryanb7337 i'm just messin with ya bud. nice lifting!

  • @ryanb7337

HI RYAN! I honestly don't think it was "ugly." Yes, the power jerk was ugly, but the clean was great. You can't expect to just Pyrros Dimas your way with a goddamn axle. You gotta use every dirty trick in the book, like in MMA where punching is overrated.

  • youre going to tear something and you're body will never be the same again

leave your ego at the door

  • Nice man, I've been looking for continental clean technique everywhere, and I still don't know a lot of things. When doing a really heavy weight, how do you avoid doing something to your back or falling? I'm really afraid that trying to get under the bar, I will bend my back too much, and then fall under the bar, what's the right way to do it and keep it safe?

  • this video should be titled "How to break your back"

  • being tht the weights on the bar only wheigh 25lbs each tht deff not 365 we have the same thing in our gym but nice try. (:

  • @MrDavidcorbett

From the inside out....25kg 20kg 20kg 10kg per side. As the former world record holder in this event I dont need to use fake weights to impress...thx for your imput though man!

  • Ryan Bakke! The angry police officer! 2nd best strongman in Arizona!

  • Looked more like jerk to me.

  • you really set the wr

  • @xxXCOLSONXxx

    yes

  • @xxXCOLSONXxx

Yeah I was there......Fit Expo 2009, check out his vids and you will see the link.

  • Lol! Good job.

  • dude that is not a press.

  • its a fatbar! so it's much harder to clean!

  • piece of bullshit XD The tchnik was very bad :S

  • holy shit how can you hold it up like that

  • do a real clean pussy

  • not on continental clean

  • you dont know what you are talking about

  • yeah i do know what i am talking about. i do olympic lifting and this more of a reverse curl and final jerk. i guess thats the powerlifting way of a clean jerk.

  • No actually its called a continetal clean fuck bag... again you dont know what you are talking about......

  • LOL!! Come on man....read a little something and educate yourself before you post.

  • yeah dude its continental clean. its different than a clean and jerk. i do strongman and olympic lifting, theres a difference.

  • yeah. that is. but i do see why anyone would really want to do that. it would be more benificial to do a regular clean. it would seem like you could easily hurt yourself doing this type clean.just seems to be an unnecessary risk in doing this type of lift

  • its a strongman event and it trains more brute strength rather than speed and quick movements like a clean and press

  • the reason is that traditionally more weight can be handled in the continental style since the bar can be rested on the belt

  • its against the rules to rest on your belt in almost every competition.

  • not in strongman and that is the point

  • yes in strongman...it is illegal in the sport of strongman in ALMOST every cometition to rest it on your belt. In the competition in which I set the WORLD RECORD on the axle clean and press it was illegal to rest it on your belt then as well!

  • if you set the world record i certainly will not argue with you .keep up the great work!

  • It's a FATBAR! I would love to see you try and clean a 365 fatbar the same way you clean an Olympic bar. Nice job Ryan!

  • Way to stay with it! Nice lift

  • very good lift

  • very strong

  • kinda looked like an axel press...

  • Press? That's clearly a jerk. Nice work, though. Continental cleans impress and mystify me.

  • man you need to learn how to clean!

don't be too proud to learn it like the vast majority of other strongmen

if you learn how to clean, that would put you on par with Mikhail Koklyaev!!

  • this was 2 years ago when i was first learning how to continental clean....which is different from apower clean. Misha is one of the few who can power clean an axle with double overhand grip. He is a freak!

  • Most people say he's just a freak instead of trying to get the grip required for it, not that I'm saying you don't train grip at all(I'm sure you do)

I'm just saying that it looks like it would pay off in the long run. Misha has that grip because he works on it. Double over hand grip has alot of good carry over affects you know? Faster reps, more control over the weight, less chance to injure yourself

the only downside is that it takes a bit longer to learn than the way in this video :(

  • but yeah anyways didn't mean to sound like I was insulting you, just when I see people do the continental press I don't understand why they don't just do a power clean. It's so much more efficient.

  • your right about the benefits of being able double overhead an axle. it is faster and wont wear you out as much. However even Misha could do more weight if he learned how to continental. If he became efficiant at continental i have no doubt he would be the first man to hit a 500lb axle.

however i will say as a former competitive olympic lifter, you are wrong about it taking longer to learn how to power clean that continental.

  • an efficiant continental clean is much more difficult to learn and the majority of strongman know how to power clean quite well before drilling and tweaking their continental technique to make it efficiant.

  • injury waiting to happen. he knew better and that press i give it to you forgetting it up but that would have been bad if that weight went backwards

  • autsch

  • There's absolutely nothing wrong with your form in this lift, I don't see why you call it "ugly". Absolutely textbook.

  • this shit is stupid who wants to do this form of clean ITS FUCKIN STUPID!!!! it looks like it snap your fuckin body in half

  • get a stronger body

  • hmmmmm well i understand from that point of view.... all of gotta say is if you got a fucked up back then stay away from this form hahaha lol

  • thats 100% true!

Do the other strongman movements first...then when your back is better, work on the axle

  • hardly counts as a rep, actually i dont think it counts at all

  • awesome video. really kept me entertained.. normally i get kinda boted after the first few minutes or so.. but this one was just to entertaining to turn away from haha.

  • i dont care if that was ugly, that was some incredible upper body strength.

  • Doesn't seems to be 365 to me ...

The sound when it hits the ground is very suspect even for rubber plates ...

    Another internet hero ??? : )

  • As the current world record holder in this discipline I do not believe I am an internet hero.

  • Then my bad , btw since when is continental clean and press a " discipline " ..?

    I would rather call it a " movement "

And what weight are you the record holder at ???

  • since it was called a discipline...

  • Oh.. i thought ure the internet hero, you know, one of those internet "pros" who doubt other peoples weights regardless of the fact that there'd be no point to fake them?

  • next time try some weight you can handle

  • Maybe you guys should post some videos and show him how its done since your such "gurus" of strength athletics.

  • UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How you havent died from a serious accident is beyond me. that form is disgracful.

  • Metallica= Motivation!!!

  • Are you guys aware that it's not a normal bar? It's much thicker and it can't be lifted the same way we lift in a normal clean and jerk.

  • That's how all the strongmen lift the apollon wheels. It's probably good to practice because I don't think apollon wheels can be lifted with proper c & j technique.

  • Hey ignoramus, that's an apollon axel. A whole different ball game. That's even heavier than the one from the Arnold classic.

  • that was not a clean and press, that was a clean and jerk.

  • For those that don't know, what he's doing is called a continental clean, where you inch the weight up to your shoulders, then push press it overhead. What he did was no more unsafe than helping your friend move his piano down the steps.

  • horrible just horrible....are u kidding me

  • Bad form or not, you managed to move the weight. Stay strong.

  • Ugly or not..that was some serious weight!!

  • Good work man. A mighty fine battle between making the lift and smashing the bar through the rack - 1-0 to the lift :>

  • Not to be Johnny negative..but your going to end up with that power rack in your mouth. You need to get away from that thing..

  • perfect form !!!! throw a 10 on each side and see if u can get that up!

  • very thick bar

  • This guy is going to seriously injure himself, if he hasn't already done so.

  • if it was ugly itr wasnt succesfull, the form was hideous, the back was far too arched, risking a bicep tear and the whole power part of it wasnt there. do weights you can handle with good form especially if youre training on your own.

  • i cant really see a major bicep tear risk..

only thing im concerned of is the weight dropping down on his neck / back if he doesnt get it up..

  • what do you mean? the biceps cant handle the bar like that, especially for a fairly long period of time, and its VERY heavy. thats why you shouldnt pull the bar up with your arms when deadlifting.

  • Good fight! Nice set up you have there.. i would love to have that in my garage:)

    You are half norwegian?

  • From norway? =)

    Good strenght!! :)

  • 365 is a bitch for me to deadlift and you just chested it and threw it up. nice.

    do you snatch?

  • work on your deadlift

  • you must have a blooper vid of you somewhere here.

  • what brand/kind of bumpers were you using? rubber? composite?

  • Nice job man!! btw, what's with the norwegian flag on the wall? ;)

  • got the job done. good stuff

  • nice man

  • That's some sick lifting ryan, but that last bit looked more like a power jerk than a press
