@n84211118 yet you're good enough to spare 2 min of your time sharing your great, insightful, and wonderful wisdom with the rest of us! you sir are a gentleman among gentleman
If I said there was a way to make $80k a month and it was inexpensive and easy, would you be interested? Btw you can get paid in GOLD! thats right GOLD! see my video for details or go to ugotgold.com
@VelociRapterZ Hell of a lot less than that, actually. Even if it was a solid ribbon of gold instead of separate pads, it would only be 0.000415 ounces, or about 65 cents' worth.
gold plated means the actual gold is under one micron thick. Nothing really unless several hundred tonnes of boards are processed to get the 7 ounces of gold
So Austin, according to your measurements there are 4.6cm x 0.3cm x 4(per module)x20 modules or 110 cm2 of gold plating surface. According to my calculations below that is 110/7365 x $55 = 82 cents of gold on those 20 modules. Adding to that the cost of separating and refining and you've got a real money winner here. You must be making a pile of money hawking these on ebay.
@gigie555 Your calculations are way way off. There is much more gold than that on 20 sticks. closer to a gram which is more like $55.00 per 20 sticks.
@AustinCyberShop That's elementary math. Do a google search on the thickness of gold plate. Then check my calculations. Please indicate where I have miscalculated.
@gigie555 I looked on the gold refining forums and several people have refined quite a bit more than others will let on. Below is a cut and paste from one of those forums , they are talking about how much gold they were able to get off just the fingers of computer boards:
The last 7 lbs I processed came to 2.6g /lb and they were trimmed better
than those fingers and a lot older.
Some of the fingers in that batch yielded 5.5 grams per pound about 3 months
@AustinCyberShop You are ducking the issue. Gold plating is 20 micro inches, that has been established. Since you haven't refuted my calculations, then where is the "extra" gold coming from? Are there microsopic particles of gold embedded in the board and for what purpose would they be there? Facts are facts. There is a total of 85 cents of gold in there. If you say you are recovering more than this, then I would question the truthfulness of your statements.
To get $55 of gold, you would need gold plated items totaling almost .8 m2 total
surface area. That is a lot of gold plated parts. Here's the math.
Gold plating is usually about 20 micro inches thick (20 millionths of an inch or 1/19762 cm), To yield a gram of gold worth $55. 1 Gram of gold is .3727 cm3 ( a cube .3727 cm on each side) split down to 1/19762 cm thick sections would yield a surface area of .3727cm2 x 19762 or 7365 cm2 or almost 1 meter squared.
At most I would say you would get grams, not ounces of "gold" unless your giving the weight of the slurry that holds the gold as well. You could make some coin off the older computer boards, not the modern stuff.
You seem like a nice guy, so I'll change my approach. 50 sticks would probably yield 0.5 grams of gold on the high side. That's 0.01763 Ounces x Gold spot at $1725 = $30.42. Then you have to subtract time spent, materials and chemicals and possible shipping and gas. Does this seem like a fair estimate?
@Raxarax Thanks for the kind words, I do care. I do believe we are helping start a mini revolution in gold refining. We have completely sold out of our material. I would absolutely do it again if my suppliers hadn't seen our videos and started refining it themselves. At least these old videos continue to entertain and enlighten all those who just didn't think that there was any money at all to be found in old electronic equipment. Sad thing is that the refiners still get most for free.
@AustinCyberShop Wow.... This video is Wrong, there is NOT 7.x ounces of gold on those modules. You are talking about Gold PLATING, one of the reasons we gold plate instead of using actual gold is because gold can be spread so thin.
Think about it, if there was 7 ounces of gold in those, or even 2 ounces in a computer, then a computer would cost WAY more than $600. Logic people, Use your Brains. This guy is trying to Rip you off.
@saris42 never said it was solid gold. 7.4 ounces of electronic gold scrap can in no way = 7.4 ounces or worth over $10,000.00 or more.. I think you got it backwards.
If you think that there is a market in this, buying computer components to recover the gold from them, why are you selling? instead of recovering the gold?
how much gold can I get from these? You are trying to sell me these things, Sell me on the "fact" that it is going to be worth my effort to buy these and take the gold off of them.
@saris42 We actually sold out of them last year. This video showed closeups of the gold strips that are on each memory module. We sold them in lots of 20 for $29.90. The last refiner said he got $55.00 of gold out of each 20 sticks and he bought over 1,000 pieces.
I wish I could find more to sell. They were worth it as stand alone dummy memory sticks, still selling on Ebay for $2.00 each, so it was a good deal as computer parts or gold scrap.
@Raxarax We disabled because there are a lot of trolls who spit on knowledge. We found out there was gold plating on these modules. There is a lot of unemployment in the US and globally and the amount of money to be made on gold scrap is pretty decent if your not currently employed by local fast food chains. I see a lot of bad responses from the lucky 1 to 5 percent of the richest people on earth. We have everything, don't assume everyone else does too.
@Raxarax Gold plating is still gold and it's not the trash you call it, but you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. We sold the sticks in lots of 20 for $29.99 the same value as they sell for their intended purpose, not a penny more. You should probably get your facts straight before hurling insults is all I'm saying.
yup it's tough getting gold from E scrap it's miniscule amounts the best pure gold is in the pentium processors the tiny pins and contacts are 12 k gold not much but it adds up after i cut these out i put the gold and silver in an envelope once i have at laest an ounce each then i take to refiner in center city and last time i got paid $575 Also the old vcr heads have four pices under thehead with tourgue screws thought they were brass 1st time , nope solid gold with silver sheets !
@MrBookiekiller Thanks for all of your input. There are a lot of people who really have no clue that there is actually gold on electronics. They call me crazy all the way to the bank where I keep depositing nice checks for electronic gold scrap. My best haul was almost $4,000.00 for 8 50 lb boxes of gold scrap. processors, motherboards, fingers, memory boards and gold plated parts. Not bad for junk that was thought to be actual junk.
this is gold plated stuff only 5% is gold and when you get this stuff off you need to take to refiner not cash for gold or any jewelr ! YOU get lowest prices from them YOU need to take all metals from each PC Copper aluminum gold silver and steel ! Each monitor will profit you $12 each when totally broken down !
@MrBookiekiller You are right about not taking it to a jeweler, they really only want gold necklaces, coins and rings. This is more for the do it yourself gold refiner using Aqua Regia, which is one of only a few ways to get gold off stuff without deadly chemicals.
I appreciate the breakdown of how much per monitor. I've seen entire groups of workers slamming those down for the circuit boards for gold, platinum, palladium and silver recovery.
It is nearly impossible to recover any relevant amount of gold from plated items because the gold is plated so thinly that there are only a few microns of actual gold in each plated item. Furthermore, the cost to refine plated items is higher than with 10 Karat - 24 Karat gold so there is no value in refining it.
@AhMeShite There is more gold on these fingers than the refiners will let on. They keep buying them on Ebay daily. I did a search for the word gold scrap fingers and it's amazing just how much they will pay for this stuff. It's not the junk it appears to be and definitely worth refining. I'm guessing it's still a big secret due to the sour grapes theory,, I can't refine it and it's too hard for me, so it's worthless, that's a very normal opinion based on little or no experience.
@Truthordeath555 I looked on the gold refining forums and several people have refined quite a bit more than others will let on. Below is a cut and paste from one of those forums , they are talking about how much gold they were able to get off just the fingers of computer boards:

Soo, I "Salvaged" a bunch of (Computer) ram/mem sticks< Put them in a salt water fish tank with tw0<2 "low lvl" currents and got a bunch of "Why did i even watch this stupid, fucking stupid shit in the first place". Where did i go wrong?
@phaze2ooo seriously, take a look on ebay and do a search for these three words electronic gold scrap and then look for the part that says completed transactions and you'll change your mind right away. There are a lot of gold refiners scooping up all the large and small lots. It seems mind numbing, but they are paying and it might not be a bad idea to broadcast that this kind of stuff is even possible.
@AustinCyberShop so what part of the computer is that? cus i have like 30 full computers and klike 10 laptops but non of them work so wanna help me out and tewll me the parts that hold the most yellow gold?
@jdavidgaviria wrong Gold n silver are used to process info faster most is gold plating but see my above reply ! Other stuff contains more plating as in designer sunglasses and coustome jewelry 10% is gold and easy to scrape off ! I find so much of this while out working it's amazing in one month i found 50 pieces and that was 2 oz of gold dust got paid $175 for the 10% gold ! BIG source of platinum is pellets and honey combs inside cat converters on vehicles it's plated parts but its pure
sir, incase the thickness of the above gold plating is 10 micrometer, it requires 1000 centimeter square of gold plating areas to make a 1 cubic centimeter gold which is about 20 gram gold. what you show in this video has hardly 20 to 40 centimeter square gold plating which after lots of expenditure for recovery it may give 0.4 to 0.8 gram gold which is not worth for small scale recovery operation.
@123kkambiz YES your right but we on the streets get lots of cell phones and pc boards and pentium processors and hard drives contain 12 k gold and silver and platinum ! Also trust me the IC chips are tiny pices connected to the pins gold or silver each board has 20 of them easy to break open one shot of hammer in closed box so the pices dont fly away ! after 1 month i have like 50 or more of PCs collected plus the copper and steel and aluminum are $ all the Capacitors are pure aluminum
@MrBookiekiller still it is not worth for individual who does not have proper extraction means in large scale, to put efforts for making gold out of computer extracts. it will be better to work at wall mart for dollar 8 per hour than trying to get computer scraps, break it then separate it , buy reuired chemicals , and equipments , clean the dirt of scrap and chemical wastages and so on.
it will be good to start in very large scale with proper technological and controls.
YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO MAKE GOLD. THEY ARE SIMPLY BEING HEATED TO A CERTAIN DEGREE THAT WILL TURN THE MALLEABLE METALS INTO GOLD. THINGS TO DO:
PREPARE:
1. SILVER, ORE, IRON, COPPER (SILVER MUST HAVE HIGHER QUANTITY)
2. MIX & HEAT THEM FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS AT 2200 DEGREES CELCIUS.
3. THEN COOL DOWN
4. REHEAT FOR 4 HOURS THIS TIME ADD PYRITE CRYSTALS (IRON SULFIDE) AT 1,100 DEGREE's.
6. COOL DOWN AND REMOVE SOME EXCESS ORES.
7. DIPPED IN A VINEGAR FOR 15 MINUTES AND THANK ME.
just a small question, why aren't you doing this yourself and sell the gold if it is so profitable ? Don't get me wrong, I know it is, but just wondering why people would sell this...
@vladth3hunt3r Thanks for asking. We sell 99 percent good working computer parts. That's our main business and has been for over 10 years. We used to recycle this and toss it. Now that gold has reached levels of $1,600.00 per ounce and above, it is worth it to sell it to larger gold refiners who refine this for a living or others who are just beginning. That's about it. Good question. :o) Have a nice evening.
how can you get to gold of those chips and get the real gold out of it? what must you do to ? i see all these vids but i cant find a vid about how you have process everything
I read somewhere that the typical ton of computers contains about one ounce of gold. Of course, that is not all profit. You have to transport the computers. Extract the metals. Separate the silver and gold. All that requires expensive, dangerous chemicals. You may end up with a profit of $200-300 per ton computers, if you do all the labor.
@BuickDoc if you have general stacks of raw systems which includes power supplies, system cases, heat sinks, printers, monitors, you are absolutely correct, but when the items are memory, cpu and motherboard only, you have 90 percent of the possible gold recovery in your hands and this lessens the weight and increases the profits EXPONENTIALLY. The two really big profit centers are memory and cpus and this is memory which is very concentrated.
@BuickDoc seriously, take a look on ebay and do a search for these three words electronic gold scrap and then look for the part that says completed transactions and you'll change your mind right away. There are a lot of gold refiners scooping up all the large and small lots. It seems mind numbing, but they are paying and it might not be a bad idea to broadcast that this kind of stuff is even possible.
LMFAO try to seperate those pins from thatfibre board will destroy YOU !
sure it's 7.4 opunces but thier isnt even 2 grams of gold on those borads !
I have tried cutting them off scraping them off burning them off and gusee what !
The micro thin gold foil contacts are still on that freking board ! Easier to get gold from sunglasses eyeglasses and jewlery even gold plted stuff than any mother baord or cell phone ! YES it's real gold but damn hard to seperate from what it's attached to !
Worthless to you but not to gold refiners and people who are learning how to actually get the gold off the parts. A lot of good precious and semi-precious minerals come directly from the rock so your comment is the equivalent of saying that the rocks are worthless with the gold veins in them. There is ALWAYS a cost to mine it and refine it, but worthless...................... I don't think so... but you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and I will humbly respect that.
@AustinCyberShop i have mined gold....good rich ground will yield a few grams (of gold) per ton of dirt....these pc boards are not worthless if you had perhaps 100,000 of them........otherwise a few of them......... not worth the trouble. a losing venture to say the least. nuff said.
I think what these people are saying, is that they feel that this form of labeling is somehow deceptive, or intends to be as such. While I do not feel that this is the case entirely, it does seem like you are playing off the Ounce and titling to get more hits for your sales, in a non-linear way. Perhaps they just don't want to feel misled, as it does seem like many of the commentators have stated as such.
Now that I can fully understand and relate to. I feel that way every time I pay for a movie that stinks and no money back. I feel the same way when I see autos advertised with 32 miles per gallon but that doesn't mention that it is without the ac running and the windows rolled up to reduce aerodynamic drag. I appreciate your reply. It has been one of the kindest. Gold is still rising in price and my original intent was to clearly show that there is gold to be found everywhere
@DJMC5ive With gold prices continuing to rise, it seems that the gold sellers are not paying that much more for the gold scrap than they were when the price of gold was at $500.00 an ounce or so. This video is to raise that awareness. Cash is being sold off super cheap daily, when the price of gold rises almost daily. It's almost a wake up call. I can understand the that there are costs to gold refining, just hoping we get some new enterprising minds to re-think gold refining methods.
The repeat buyers must be all wrong and your the only one that's right. I'll give you that much... but that's about it. Gold = going up.. Intelligence = going down....who knows how low it will go. buying gold = passion speculation.... it is pretty shiny and glittery,,, my precious..... dam, the hobbit had more effect on me than I ever thought.....
@AustinCyberShop Dude, all I'm saying is that you are measuring and throwing out weight and values, but you have no clue how much gold can be extracted from each card.
Might be 1 dollar worth of gold per card, might be 50 bucks worth of gold for the card.
You do not seem to know is my point.
If you are selling them, how much are you selling for....I will buy them all right now.
@silvermediastudio Yes, I have studied this since that comment and found out. It's just gold plating thin like gold leaf. There might be 2 bucks in gold there. I have been in contact with a gold processor who extracts gold from scrap, and he said it would take a u-haul truck of parts to get maybe half an ounce if your lucky.
@WONDOCTORJ Well, gold leaf is many many times thicker than gold plating.
For comparison's sake, a typical cell phone contains about 0.04 grams of gold. That means with full extraction, you'd have to process approximately 700 phone for one ounce of gold. On a large scale, if you can process the scrap, it can be profitable. On a small scale, it's a neat hobby if you have nothing better to do.
@WONDOCTORJ For some numbers.. gold leaf is usually .2 to .4 microns. Heavy gold plating is typically .5 micron or less, gold electroplate and 10k flash plating (much more common) at .175 microns.
Some people are thicker than others... :o) That sort of makes my day.... 7.4 ounces of gold = way over $10,000 bucks.. how clear is that???? If I had a major clue as to exactly how much gold came of of these I would probably figure out how to melt it off myself. But,,,, we are not in that sort of business. We sell computer parts and this is surplus.. exactly that and no more, With gold prices rising... now over $1,700 an ounce. These are worth even MORE!!!
@TheSpiritof1969 As my previous statement mentioned, we are not selling these items for outrageous prices. Our prices are actually really reasonable if not low. If you would like, I can send you a message with a link to our eBay store category for gold scrap so that you can personally check our prices (please note the size and weight of the lot of scrap and the quantity of metals on the products).
As you said yourself, there are other metals on these items as well, making this more than fair. :)
I agree that they are gold plated, but with 1 gram of gold worth upwards of $50.00 and a half a gram at $25.00 currently on Ebay, the value of BB gold pellets x 20 boards = more gold than you might think, it adds up really quickly. We're not talking about $5,000.00 US dollars for 20 gold plated pieces, it's $30.00 plus shipping. This is perfect for someone who is experimenting with gold removal and extraction. The dollar has been falling and gold has been rising. This could be our currency..:o(
They're gold plated. Gold plating is not that thick. A few micrometers. TomsHardware did gold scavenging on some boards and came up with some little ball of gold smaller than a BB. I wouldn't think between the chemicals, equipment, and the time, even with $1,550/oz. prices it wouldn't be worth it. Plus gold is pretty hard to get any decent amount for unless it is bullion or bars...stuff with marked purity and a certificate of authenticity.
@AustinCyberShop It was completely irrelevant mentioning that you had 7.4 ounces of plastic. Your 7.4 ounces is made up primarily of the plastic but you tried to make it sound like there was 7.4 oucnes of gold. Gold is refererred to in weight as ounces so why didn't you clarify that it was the weight of the ram cards itself you were referreing to. The only relevant information here was the weight of the actual gold on the cards.
when people buy lots of computer surplus they want to know the exact weight for shipping purposes. That's kinda of like Obvious, but apparently not. It is super important that the entire weight is considered at all times. If it was the pure gold, then the gold would be worth over $10,000 and that would be ABSURD AND STUPID! Even thinking that would be ridiculous and Uber insane. Sadly, I feel compelled to respond to these questions but it's important that I do. Educate the masses.
recycling of gold from PCBs is not as simple as merely melting the gold of the face of the boards. Look fo a programme by the BBC called "Bang Goes the Theory - BBC One" and you'll see the industrial level chemistry involved.

If you think that there is a market in this, buying computer components to recover the gold from them, why are you selling? instead of recovering the gold?
how much gold can I get from these? You are trying to sell me these things, Sell me on the "fact" that it is going to be worth my effort to buy these and take the gold off of them.
saris42 3 weeks ago
@saris42 We actually sold out of them last year. This video showed closeups of the gold strips that are on each memory module. We sold them in lots of 20 for $29.90. The last refiner said he got $55.00 of gold out of each 20 sticks and he bought over 1,000 pieces.
I wish I could find more to sell. They were worth it as stand alone dummy memory sticks, still selling on Ebay for $2.00 each, so it was a good deal as computer parts or gold scrap.
AustinCyberShop 3 weeks ago
@AustinCyberShop Your lying. There is not a gram($55) of gold per finger stick. That gold plate is maybe 2 microns thick, and worth about $0.55.

You should probably get your facts straight before hurling insults is all I'm saying.

it isent gold all truge you know??
GoldEagle315 1 month ago
@GoldEagle315 You are correct. It is not solid gold, it is plated.
AustinCyberShop 1 month ago
@AustinCyberShop so it is not 7.4 ounces of gold,..? ottherwise a memory whould cost much more then they do
GoldEagle315 1 month ago
yup it's tough getting gold from E scrap it's miniscule amounts the best pure gold is in the pentium processors the tiny pins and contacts are 12 k gold not much but it adds up after i cut these out i put the gold and silver in an envelope once i have at laest an ounce each then i take to refiner in center city and last time i got paid $575 Also the old vcr heads have four pices under thehead with tourgue screws thought they were brass 1st time , nope solid gold with silver sheets !
MrBookiekiller 1 month ago
@MrBookiekiller Thanks for all of your input. There are a lot of people who really have no clue that there is actually gold on electronics. They call me crazy all the way to the bank where I keep depositing nice checks for electronic gold scrap. My best haul was almost $4,000.00 for 8 50 lb boxes of gold scrap. processors, motherboards, fingers, memory boards and gold plated parts. Not bad for junk that was thought to be actual junk.
AustinCyberShop 1 month ago
this is gold plated stuff only 5% is gold and when you get this stuff off you need to take to refiner not cash for gold or any jewelr ! YOU get lowest prices from them YOU need to take all metals from each PC Copper aluminum gold silver and steel ! Each monitor will profit you $12 each when totally broken down !
MrBookiekiller 1 month ago
@MrBookiekiller You are right about not taking it to a jeweler, they really only want gold necklaces, coins and rings. This is more for the do it yourself gold refiner using Aqua Regia, which is one of only a few ways to get gold off stuff without deadly chemicals.
I appreciate the breakdown of how much per monitor. I've seen entire groups of workers slamming those down for the circuit boards for gold, platinum, palladium and silver recovery.
AustinCyberShop 1 month ago
It is nearly impossible to recover any relevant amount of gold from plated items because the gold is plated so thinly that there are only a few microns of actual gold in each plated item. Furthermore, the cost to refine plated items is higher than with 10 Karat - 24 Karat gold so there is no value in refining it.
AhMeShite 1 month ago
@AhMeShite There is more gold on these fingers than the refiners will let on. They keep buying them on Ebay daily. I did a search for the word gold scrap fingers and it's amazing just how much they will pay for this stuff. It's not the junk it appears to be and definitely worth refining. I'm guessing it's still a big secret due to the sour grapes theory,, I can't refine it and it's too hard for me, so it's worthless, that's a very normal opinion based on little or no experience.
AustinCyberShop 1 month ago
lol what did u get, like a gram?
Truthordeath555 1 month ago
@Truthordeath555 I looked on the gold refining forums and several people have refined quite a bit more than others will let on. Below is a cut and paste from one of those forums , they are talking about how much gold they were able to get off just the fingers of computer boards:
The last 7 lbs I processed came to 2.6g /lb and they were trimmed better
than those fingers and a lot older.
Some of the fingers in that batch yielded 5.5 grams per pound about 3 months
ago.

I find so much of this while out working it's amazing in one month i found 50 pieces and that was 2 oz of gold dust got paid $175 for the 10% gold ! BIG source of platinum is pellets and honey combs inside cat converters on vehicles it's plated parts but its pure

where do i put my dick?
jonwal1010 1 month ago
sir, incase the thickness of the above gold plating is 10 micrometer, it requires 1000 centimeter square of gold plating areas to make a 1 cubic centimeter gold which is about 20 gram gold. what you show in this video has hardly 20 to 40 centimeter square gold plating which after lots of expenditure for recovery it may give 0.4 to 0.8 gram gold which is not worth for small scale recovery operation.
123kkambiz 1 month ago
@123kkambiz YES your right but we on the streets get lots of cell phones and pc boards and pentium processors and hard drives contain 12 k gold and silver and platinum ! Also trust me the IC chips are tiny pices connected to the pins gold or silver each board has 20 of them easy to break open one shot of hammer in closed box so the pices dont fly away ! after 1 month i have like 50 or more of PCs collected plus the copper and steel and aluminum are $ all the Capacitors are pure aluminum
MrBookiekiller 1 month ago

Don't get me wrong, I know it is, but just wondering why people would sell this...
vladth3hunt3r 3 months ago
@vladth3hunt3r Thanks for asking. We sell 99 percent good working computer parts. That's our main business and has been for over 10 years. We used to recycle this and toss it. Now that gold has reached levels of $1,600.00 per ounce and above, it is worth it to sell it to larger gold refiners who refine this for a living or others who are just beginning. That's about it. Good question. :o) Have a nice evening.

BuickDoc 5 months ago
@BuickDoc if you have general stacks of raw systems which includes power supplies, system cases, heat sinks, printers, monitors, you are absolutely correct, but when the items are memory, cpu and motherboard only, you have 90 percent of the possible gold recovery in your hands and this lessens the weight and increases the profits EXPONENTIALLY. The two really big profit centers are memory and cpus and this is memory which is very concentrated.

@senseblog There are ways to get the gold off, some are dangerous and expensive. I only know of one way that isn't dangerous but
it uses salt and reverse plating called reverse electrolysis or something
like that. I saw a gold refining kit on sale on ebay for around $800.00
expensive but it will remove the gold with salt and a low electricity
current. I'm guessing that it's really important to educate them that there is
gold other places too besides coins and jewelry

Worthless to you but not to gold refiners and people who are learning how to actually get the gold off the parts. A lot of good precious and semi-precious minerals come directly from the rock so your comment is the equivalent of saying that the rocks are worthless with the gold veins in them. There is ALWAYS a cost to mine it and refine it, but worthless...................... I don't think so... but you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and I will humbly respect that.
AustinCyberShop 6 months ago

@DJMC5ive
AustinCyberShop 6 months ago
@DJMC5ive With gold prices continuing to rise, it seems that the gold sellers are not paying that much more for the gold scrap than they were when the price of gold was at $500.00 an ounce or so. This video is to raise that awareness. Cash is being sold off super cheap daily, when the price of gold rises almost daily. It's almost a wake up call. I can understand the that there are costs to gold refining, just hoping we get some new enterprising minds to re-think gold refining methods.

AustinCyberShop 6 months ago
@AustinCyberShop Dude, all I'm saying is that you are measuring and throwing out weight and values, but you have no clue how much gold can be extracted from each card.
Might be 1 dollar worth of gold per card, might be 50 bucks worth of gold for the card.
You do not seem to know is my point.
If you are selling them, how much are you selling for....I will buy them all right now.
I can wire money whenever you give the word.
WONDOCTORJ 6 months ago
@WONDOCTORJ The thickness of gold plating such as this is measured in microns. The amount of gold on all those cards is minuscule.
silvermediastudio 6 months ago
@silvermediastudio Yes, I have studied this since that comment and found out. It's just gold plating thin like gold leaf. There might be 2 bucks in gold there. I have been in contact with a gold processor who extracts gold from scrap, and he said it would take a u-haul truck of parts to get maybe half an ounce if your lucky.
WONDOCTORJ 6 months ago
@WONDOCTORJ Well, gold leaf is many many times thicker than gold plating.
For comparison's sake, a typical cell phone contains about 0.04 grams of gold. That means with full extraction, you'd have to process approximately 700 phone for one ounce of gold. On a large scale, if you can process the scrap, it can be profitable. On a small scale, it's a neat hobby if you have nothing better to do.
silvermediastudio 6 months ago
@WONDOCTORJ For some numbers.. gold leaf is usually .2 to .4 microns. Heavy gold plating is typically .5 micron or less, gold electroplate and 10k flash plating (much more common) at .175 microns.
silvermediastudio 6 months ago
@WONDOCTORJ

AustinCyberShop 7 months ago
I agree that they are gold plated, but with 1 gram of gold worth upwards of $50.00 and a half a gram at $25.00 currently on Ebay, the value of BB gold pellets x 20 boards = more gold than you might think, it adds up really quickly. We're not talking about $5,000.00 US dollars for 20 gold plated pieces, it's $30.00 plus shipping. This is perfect for someone who is experimenting with gold removal and extraction. The dollar has been falling and gold has been rising. This could be our currency..:o(
AustinCyberShop 7 months ago
They're gold plated. Gold plating is not that thick. A few micrometers. TomsHardware did gold scavenging on some boards and came up with some little ball of gold smaller than a BB. I wouldn't think between the chemicals, equipment, and the time, even with $1,550/oz. prices it wouldn't be worth it. Plus gold is pretty hard to get any decent amount for unless it is bullion or bars...stuff with marked purity and a certificate of authenticity.
timramich 7 months ago
I'd assume something in the magnitude of double-digit milligrams, or even less.
timramich 7 months ago

Actually there can be quite a bit of gold on these cards, otherwise no one would ever buy them. ;)
AustinCyberShop 7 months ago
How do you get the math done for 7.3 onces?
abrahamchavez 8 months ago
@abrahamchavez
The 7.4 ounces refers to the weight on the RAM cards which the gold is on.
It is difficult to judge how much gold is on the cards exactly as there may be gold underneath the surface of the cards.
AustinCyberShop 8 months ago
@AustinCyberShop It was completely irrelevant mentioning that you had 7.4 ounces of plastic. Your 7.4 ounces is made up primarily of the plastic but you tried to make it sound like there was 7.4 oucnes of gold. Gold is refererred to in weight as ounces so why didn't you clarify that it was the weight of the ram cards itself you were referreing to. The only relevant information here was the weight of the actual gold on the cards.
boscoesarmy 7 months ago
@boscoesarmy
when people buy lots of computer surplus they want to know the exact weight for shipping purposes.
