  • Hi. Great vid! What about the rear bushings? Is there a way to determine failure?

  • Whitch model was that you used to demonstrate the problem in this video? It sounded like the 325i. I'm not so sure.

  • those go bad all the time. i recommend the solid rubber m3 bushings for replacement

  • thanks for the demonstration is the same problem that have my e36, but i didn't know the reason

  • i love this guy, no homo.. thnx for help

  • Or, which is easier, keep on braking and release the clutch. If there is no clutch, simply leave of the brake just a little in 1st gear.

  • hi, what if I hear a small clunk only when I pass through some hole or at an irregular spot on the road?

    is that tie rods?

  • @superfestiva Hello,

Maybe, rom what you described, the normal cause of that kind of noise is one of the following:

Sway Bar Links, Tie Rods, Strut mount points, or a worn spring pad.

  • scary

  • MY STEERING WHEEL USE TO VIBRATE AROUND 40-60MPH WHEN PRESSING BRAKES, IT WAS EXACTLY AS HAVING WARPED ROTORS SO I REPLACE THE ROTOR AND PADS...THEN AFTER DRIVING FOR 5 MINUTES THE VIBRATION CAME BACK AND IT WAS GETTING WORSE DAY AFTER DAY.

AFTER HOURS OF INTERNET RESEARCH AND ASKING A BMW TECH, ALL POINT IT TO THE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS, SO I INSTALL NEW BUSHINGS AND THE VIBRATION TOTALLY DISAPPEAR !!!

A REPAIR SHOP CHARGED ME $2,615 TO FIX THE VIBRATION .....

  • I would get the Meyle HD's for street/some track use, and Rouge Engineering bushings or treehouse delrin bushings

  • lol.you need to be an idiot to drive the car till it gets to that stage

  • I sent you a message about your video.

  • Yeah the same thing happened on my e36. Now I think I have a big problem with my e46 the rear suspension is making a weird noise like if it's hitting metal with metal and I think it's the suspension mounts on the chassis I just wonder if it's gonna be Bella expensive to fix this problem....

  • About other bushings. The link bushings to the sway bar. I get a popping sound over sharp 1" bumps and louder noises on bigger bumps. Shocks and springs are new.

  • nice job on the vids ...

  • That could also be a radius rod/arm bushing too.

  • epic bushing fail

  • thanks for this video. i think i'm gonna replace both control arms, ball joints and bushings on my e46.

  • thanks for this video! i now know what i paid $600 to replace on my BMW x5! arrrrghhhhhhh.

  • well, you pay big bucks to buy'em and you pay big bucks to maintain'em.

  • That being said, would you also feel the steering wheel vibrate maybe wobble a little while braking hard

  • Yes, you would feel the wheel vibrate to the left and right, it should not actually turn the steering wheel more than a few inches.

  • @528im52 can you guys make a video on changing the 'rear trailing arm bush' on e46 thanks

  • oh shit uh safe.

  • Does the brake pedal pulse back a little bit whenever this happens?

  • Yes, you will feel a slight vibration and pulsation under braking that is a sign of either these bushings or warped rotors

  • Then i guess i have this problem in my audi and my sister has this problem in her toyota as well. Thanks.

  • @GlennTheRussian If brake pedal pulses back, then the issue could be with the brake discs (braking alot, making them hot + driving through cold water=pulsing)

  • Where did you buy the control by bushings, and what brand were they.

  • We sell them, they are Powerflex Control Arm Bushings. Needless to say right now they are a bit hard to come by, the Powerflex Factory in London is in a new location and will not have more of these bushings sent out until the middle to end of March and most everyone in the states is out of them at the moment.

  • Nothing to be scarred of. It's not going to fall off. It's just going to keep knocking around in there. Could cause more suspension damage if neglected, but it won't fall off.

  • i mean on a bumpu road then braking staight on the road bumps

  • it is how ppl use the car. i own few cars and never had such problems. and its RWD... there shouldnt be such problems. unless you use brakes and turn steering wheel to a side or use brake on bumpy road.

  • american made bmw fails. european bmw don't. go figure

  • Well in this case the E30, E36, E46, and E90 chassis were never made in the USA, they were made in Germany, South Africa and Austria. Only the X3, X5, Z3, and Z4 were made in the USA.

  • ive got 115,xxx miles., on my E46 no problems, but i am upgrading the bushings and control arm because its so common.

  • My E38 has 150K and i think my control arms are starting to fail

  • exact thing happens on my z3.. getting it fixed tomorrow

  • Los BMW no valen un duro, iros a por algun fabricante japones.

  • damn. its sad that bmw owners pay so much for their cars and failures like this are so dangerous and costly. imagine what would happen if you had to suddenly brake...

  • 100,000 miles

my e46 is falling apart... its at like 130,000 somthing

  • my e46 is the same, 100,000 its now dropping to bits

  • I'd be scared as hell if my 740 did that haha

  • I have this problem with my '99 323i, minus the clicking noise. I'm hoping to take cafre of it next week. Any general ballpark figure for the parts and labor?? Thanks!

  • damn the bushing these cars are rippinng the sub frame from the rear the sheet metal just rips i have one and wish i hadnt gotten it man anyone trying to get one or has one sorry but it happens to all e46s and the the 5 series piece of shit they only last like 100,000 miles then they start falling apart from the suspension and the body no mas M power now il try a damn kia maybe its better just maybe it will last long enough to pay it off shame on bmw ultimate driving machine my ass

  • so u think ur smart ha. hahah so american, greets from DE

  • ???

  • Uhmm...This is exactly the FEELING I'm getting when slightly or moderatly breaking my e36 325i. I must say that I DON'T HEAR any kind of noise that can be heard in the video..but the feel, it's just it-lower frequency vibrations when going slowly and higher frequencies/wheel shaking when going faster. My mechanic told me I had warped rotors...but I changed my rotors 3000kms ago... On the other hand, I changed my CABs 3000kms ago also. Now, I dunno. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT AND VERY HELPFUL VIDEO!
