A fiendishly difficult aria; Gedda showed us HIS MAGIC in this recording. By the way Magische Töne is the only German Tenor aria I know with a high C written in. Are there any others?

Wonderful singing here! Also Hermann Jadlowker born in Riga Latvia (1877-1953) in Caruso's time was very fine in this and he was the Kaiser's favorite tenor.

Thanks Herur22. It's still my strong believe Nicolai Gedda towers every singer in using a human voice to get the best out of it, and that all in music from so many different styles and times. It's unbelievable. That's why I keep saying: what Gedda can - only Gedda can.

Gedda the Greatest Lyric Tenor of all time in my opinion just sends chills and goosebumps in this most delicate aria. No-one did it better than Gedda. I have both Rudolph Schock who did a good job and Caruso who also did a good attempt but this is a aria for a true lyric of which Schock and Caruso obviously were not.

Gedda sings this beautifully and the video is very effective. Congratulations! Goldmarks aria was evidently very popular with the early tenors but with exception of Nicolai Gedda not with singers of the last 70 years. Which is surprising and a great pity as it is a beautiful aria.Does any one know if it has been recorded by any other contempory artist?
