@TheLordbarry yes....tradition....the drummers were the only musicians who used to go into battle in the very old days....they would beat the advance, drums of war and the retreat as well as bugle it. They also carried a sword to fight when they reached the enemy.
The side drummer, Band Sergeant Major Warrant Officer Class 2 Peter McErlean, is wearing a sword because of his rank, not because of said tradition.
What you say only applies to drummers (as in members of a Corps of Drums), who are actual soldiers unlike bandsmen who are musicians first and soldiers second.
I had the pleasure of seeing them two years ago in Newark, NJ during their USA tour. Excellent in every respect. I equally enjoyed the Band of the Scots Guards this past January. Thanks for posting this video. It presents the band in a unique setting.
sounds very good, not as harsh sounding as most wind bands

The drummer is wearing a sword because he is the Band Sergeant Major. No Tradition of wearing a sword Lord barry.

Yes, all Warrant Officers wear a sword on parade.

The staging is because they were on the Alan Titchmarsh show, and space was limited.

I really like this music too bad they don't have any full songs on utube

Nice stage, only a 25 piece Guards band. Sadly this could be considered the average for many concerts now.

The only thing is that I associate "Dambusters" as an RAF concert march. It just does not look right to have anyone else playing it but an RAF band!

very nice; I was surprised to see the conductor located behind the audience :)
