  • Your playing and singing make my memories of Dublin so warm and my longing to return highten.

  • @MrMichaelcurran Don't worry...Dublin will still be there when you get time to visit again (and you will still be able to get a great pint of guinness !!)

  • I love your tutorial! and you have a great voice! Thanks for your hard work!

  • @MadGuitaristAlex Thank you very much for your lovely compliment...it is a pleasure !

  • Put up more tutorials

  • @rockyjnr10 There seemed to be something wrong with your text so I just want to be sure that I understood it. As far as I can see it said something like: "Hi Brian, thank you so very much for taking the time to do these tutorials and I just want you to know how much I appreciate them. if and when you have time I would love it if you could do a few more tutorials like this. Once again, thanks very much for everything." Was it something like that ???

  • would you play finnegans wake

  • @patrick442222 It is on my list of "to do" songs...coming in the next few months. Thanks for your request...it always good to know what people would like to learn.

  • like this one too great songs , finally know the who molly malone is heard her name in 20 songs thanks

  • @patrick442222 Yeah she was quite a gal !!!!

  • i'm not trying to learn to play the guitar, i just wanted a beautiful acoustic version of this song, and i found it. thank you.

  • @crackyhoss Delghted that I was of some help to you.

  • you know when your strumming do you just strum down or is it down up down down up down down up down , i've been looking at your strumming and i cant seem to get it .

  • @shaunathefirst Good question ! I actually strum up AND down but not on each strum...about every third strum I strum up as well but that is just my particular style....try both ways and which ever works for you go for it. You usually get more "sound" if you strum up and down....always go more gently on the "upstrum"....hope this helps a little.

  • Is there any difference in set up for your guitar when playing an Irish tune? as my guitar sounds nothing like yours. Mine is a bit depper in sound so wondering if you tune up half a step?

  • @24ricci Hi....no I actually use the boring EBGDAE tuning here and it is concert as I like to be able to mess with the piano at the same time. Don't forget to try the capo to give a more "mandolin" like sound, especially if you put it a good bit up the neck. You can also try the DADGAD tuning which I mess with but would not feel confident enough to give lessons on. Best of luck !

  • Cool stuff. I like it alot.

  • Absolutely enchanting!! Just stumbled across this actually when I was searching for Irish Folk music. Anyhow, if you ever get the chance could you play the Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers?? He hailed from the Maritime's here in Canada but died in a plane crash when I was not yet born---turned onto his music by my parents, thank God! Take care....Sincerely ms.Stacey Steele

  • @staceyrsteele Interesting ! Mary Ellen Carter is one of my all time favourite songs. I heard the late Liam Clancy singing it in concert here in Co.Clare about a year before he died.. I have never sang it yet but would really love to. I have played it on my radio show many times and likened the story to what has happened (and what hopefully will happen) to Ireland....Great to hear from you Stacey

  • NICE Lowden

  • Hey now that's a no BS lesson. Good job!! I almost had it figured out and you nailed it for me. You'll probably hate this but I'm mixing it up with the Fiffenmarket version. Lots of ways to arrange it. Google: "molly malone fiffinmarket" if you haven't heard it. You'll either love it or hate it!

  • Thanks Brian, I can now play this as well. Love the way you keep it simple for those of us who just want to play and sing with friends in the pub or wherever.

As a late starter to the guitar (I'm 50),I have learned a lot from you.

where do you play? I'd love to see you live.

P.S. Any chance you could post a tutorial on The Leaving of Liverpool?

  • Absolutely excellent.
