I remember this very well. I think it was the next year the Gold Coast remodeled and changed that lounge area so that even if all those guys had been there later this couldn't of happened the way it did. That makes this all the more special.
P.S. We had done a tribute to Ricky Nelson earlier that night and didn't know Paul & Rocky were in the audience. We closed with "Believe What You Say" by Ricky. Rocky & Paul met us afterward and Rocky was telling me all about how his Dad& Uncle wrote the song for Ricky and then thanked us for doing the song. It was a very special loving moment. Made all our work worth while to hear something like that. :-)
Dickie is playing on my drummer's drums, Greg Windust is his name, and Paul is playing through my amp. We played the opening of the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame, different from Bob Timmer's original one, in Jackson TN. a week earlier along with Paul, Naverl Felts and the Comets.
Marshrocker, thanx for Greg, my drummer, is VERY proud of the fact that Dikie is on his drums. We actually ran the jam on Thursday night and Dickie, and Bill Mack also of the Blue Caps, sat in with us.
Hi Dave. Glad you managed to see the video I took. Marshrocker is actually my You Tube alias. I am actually Rod Pyke from England who helped Bob with the RHOF website. I hope you are keeping well. That was one great weekend.
Okay, this was filmed at the Gold Coast Hotel, Las Vegas, Nv. It was at Viva Las Vegas, the Rockabilly weekender, in April 2000 on Saturday night I believe. The stage was a small stage, then called the "West Lounge". It was sponsored by Bob Timmers and the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame. That year me and my band were the "House" band and provided the back line, i.e. amps & drumes and ran the sound for the other acts when we weren't playing.
Hi Dickie, i'll never forget that great night, a piece of Rock'n'roll history was on that stage in Vegas and i'm just so proud to have been sharing the stage with you, Ronnie, Paul, Rocky and Marcel!
If you listen to Paul Burlison, just listen, don't try to figure out what he's playing. Just sit back and listen. Can you hear that tone??? Can you feel how he moves the song along??? You can't be taught that. That is a God given gift.
I read that and it made me cry :(. It made me think about how many times I would rewind the tape from the movie Rock, Rock,Rock just so I could keep hearing Lonesome Train, because I loved how he played the guitar. Keep his memories in your heart and you will never miss him. And be proud to know, when he started around 1952, it was HIS guitar playing that is the basis for the entire Rockabilly sound that followed. Keep him in your heart & honor his legacy. RIP Paul Burlison. Love a fan
I got to meet the great Paul Burlison in Cleveland in the late 80's when he was playing with the Sun Rhythm Section. What a friendly guy and all around nice man.Him and Sonny were really tearing the place up that night.RIP
It was really an injustice that this was relegated to the downstairs lounge. I was'nt there , but had the pleasure of knowing Ronnie and Paul , both were great people as well as great artists. Rocky just played at Green Bay , and , well...He TORE IT UP!
Hi Marcel, Really enjoyed sitting in that nite, you did a excellent job and all you guys together made me sound pretty good also. thanks Man and say hello for me. Dickie Harrell
The Guy in the shirt is Marco, very talented and fine musician, The Bass Player also excellent but I can't recall his name. Both are very good Musician and I enjoyed working with them.
@marshrocker Yes indeed that is Marco Di Maggio! This is a video treasure. Paul Burlison and Ronnie Dawson were two of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. They are sorely missed. Rocky Burnette is a cool cat.
Just wanted to say,It was a Honor for me to see these Guys work together as it was a event I will never forget. True talent at its best. The ENERGY in that room that nite was so real. Thanks Guys for letting me be part of it.. "BE_BOP"
