There were no raids before georgian attack. There was some sluggish shooting between Georgian troops (possible peasekeapers) and Ossetian rebels with a few (up to 2-3) casualties. Is it comparable with the fire of GRAD's on Ossetian living buildings?

The U.S lost so many battles they had to spray DDT on the forests to make it easier for themselves to fight the viets and now they are feeling the effects of it today. Carpet bombing by the U.S decimated farming fields and local institutions. All that destruction for what? they eventually had to retreat.

As a British Army officer, I have been able to do some work with the Russians and I'm telling you, they are a fucking hard nosed bunch, do not undermine them. I have huge respect them; they play the game alot harder than NATO does. I didn't see us deploying to Georgia.

Do you think NATO would have stayed in Afghanistan in the same conditions as Soviets did (many Stinger-AA and some AT missiles, money and men supply from Pakistan, Arab countries, USA proper, for insurgents )? To me the Soviets managed pretty well there, AFAIK controlling better the territory than NATO now.

@MRKVATI from many different sources like wiki and other, i looked deep in the situation and the roots of the conflict, large quantaties of material was captured and 2 small missele boats were destroyed when they tried to attack an element of black sea fleet. 60 to 70 armored vehicles were captured 40 of them are t-72 tanks, humvees and some sensetive electronics were captured also, i even saw a photo of destroyed lar-160 but i dont know how credible it is , running out of typing space

The effects of DDT still affects the jungle,viets and the world today. Russia lost in Afghanistan mostly due to political reasons not military... so u got things switched around. But then again most modern armies lack strategy and brilliant tacticians they used to have.

@Halkrath BTW the casualty rate of the U.S was around 60k and over 150k wounded, the Viets had higher casualties due to the fact that many civilians were killed and raped but this happens in any war im not blaming the U.S. The major killing factor for the viets was however the climate of vietnam...disease and famine killed over 60% of their forces. Carpet bombing by the U.S decimated farming fields and local institutions. All that destruction for what? they eventually had to retreat.

@MrMeineNamen no if we lost we would have surrendered. we left because they werent worth the casualties and the US citzens were against the war and at least the US stayed in the middle east unlike some other country that was there before us... oh did you know RUSSIA was there too? and russia hasnt been able to keep their soldiers alive the past 100 years. look at the statistics of the past 3 major conflicts

@munguntulga thats not propaganda and thats certainly not patriotism. 9.2 russians died in ww1 more than anyone else and they even quit. the ratios were the same in ww2 and that was with stalin killing anyone who wasnt on board (his own russians). the treaty of paris was not a surrender it was a pact between the us and vietnam to cease fire no one won it was a pull out it wasnt even technically a war since the US was there on police terms. its not propaganda look up causality rates/#s

@munguntulga To be fair to them, the Russians stick at it more than we do. They stayed in Afghanistan 10 years and they didn't have as much of an advantage as we do today, and look at us? Pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan.
As a British Army officer, I have been able to do some work with the Russians and I'm telling you, they are a fucking hard nosed bunch, do not undermine them. I have huge respect them; they play the game alot harder than NATO does. I didn't see us deploying to Georgia.

Very nice to see a Brit Army officer posting here, I have a great respect for British, Russian and Israeli Armies, not too much for USA Army (though it's not bad either). Do you think NATO would have stayed in Afghanistan in the same conditions as Soviets did (many Stinger-AA and some AT missiles, money and men supply from Pakistan, Arab countries, USA proper, for insurgents )? To me the Soviets managed pretty well there, AFAIK controlling better the territory than NATO now.
