lies. i guess you can't set up different wallpapers. but the top and bottom of the cube can be skinned with different wallpapers in the compiz settings.
if i recall correctly; just flip over to each different workspace (without going to the cube) and set the background. You should be able to set a different wallpaper for each. You can set the wallpapers for the top and bottom of the cube in the compiz settings itself. At least that's how it used to be. This is an old, old Ubuntu. It should be easier in Ubuntu 10.04. Search for Compiz on google, you'll find a dearth of inforamtion. The Ubuntu forums will get you better help.
