@konamikoden No, shooting diagonal she doesn't even get to attack most of the time. Plus you can shoot the grenades she drops. You can beat Mother Brain without taking a single hit (except the scripted ones) and you rarely have to leave the ground.

very epic ending to a game. moreso when the player hasn't done it a thousand times and is actually frantically trying to escape as they should be. explosions knocking you around, falling.. taking wrong turns. the music greatly added to this game as well. it made you feel like you were deep in the belly of an alien world where everything was strange and threatening. lastly, i love the music change at 11:00. brings you, feeling triumphant.. to an eerie reminder that something evil persists.

I played this fantastic game when it came out, 1994, dozens of times. I never,ever forgot that horrific moment when the Metroid attacks MB (2:50 in the vid).

In Metroid 2: Return of Samus.. The whole point of that game was to kill every metroid, including the Queen, which Samus did... But as she was leaving, she comes across an egg, which hatches into a metroid larva, it follows her like a confused child as if Samus was its mother, Samus takes it to the Space Colony and that's basically it... Then as Samus is leaving, Ridley attacks the Station, which is the start of Super Metroid.. The Larva, is the big metroid, and metroids can suck/give energy. :P
