the idea of this was to have marksmen in platoons with reasonably easy to wield long range guns, it isn't really a sniper rifle more of a support weapon. most true sniper rifles are operated by an independant sniper maybe a spotter and the rifles are much more powerful. I think it would be a great deer or moose rifle :D

"Gas operated systems are less accurate" Gas operated systems are more reliable. If you don't believe me read about a gun called the AK47. Gas system is cleaner but can operate effectively with dirt cloged in the system. Blowback cannot. Also a Gas system can be chambered for high pressure (Something you may want in a sniper rifle) Blowback cannot with out risk of injury to the shooter. As far as being less accurate... Give me a break.

Dragunov sniper is cheap comes in different versions and low maintenance making it a reliable sniper rifle in every single environment cause it mechanism is the same as an AK-47.

@CMDai1 Your not right..It must be noted that several countries produced SVD copies or look-alikes. Of those, the "true" clones (rifles that have similar internal design) are Iraqui Al Kadesih rifle and Chinese Type 85 (in 7,62x54R) and NDM-86 (in 7,62x51 NATO). Others, such as Romanian Romak FPK or Yugoslavian Zastava M76, are only look-alikes as their internal design is different and usually based on Kalsshnikov AK assault rifle.

Does anyone have an idea as to what kind of sniper round killed the Thai general Deng? I noticed it there was not much blood and not a lot of brains. Does this mean he was hit with a subsonic round? I think it must have been a low cal round. Am I right or wrong?

@mexicancomputer Its a norinco NDM-86, and its importation was banned in 1994 by clinton. Only a few made it into america, thats why they are so expensive. Costs twice as much as the M1A I used to own, and has the same accuracy. But I used the SVD during service and it is by far my favorite weapon, so I felt like I needed one.

sniper grade ammo dragunov is pretty good rifle. that stuff isnt everywhere or cheap. and draganov cant touch the 1/2" groups i get at 400 yrds, gets harder around 600 but still get nice groups in 425-500 range. i love my SM m1a and shoot my friends svd often, i just preffer my rifle. love em both.

the gas recovery system of dragunov (and any other semi or auto rifle) makes the rifle less accurate. but 800m shooting range is enaugh to me.

whatever. just cause its new. the dragonauv is way more tactical, lightweight and fires any 7.62mm so you can just Use assault rifle rounds you come across. the CheyTac m2oo uses a special .400 calibur round. how many clips are you going to need to keep you going. alot more than this rifle

you cant just use any assalt rifle rounds you find you have to find 7.62x54 not just 7.62 and you can reload clips if you didnt know

i think that in assoult rifle the most common 7,62 round is 7,62 x 51, svd uses 7,62 x 54.

Its not a Dragunov, do the research. It is AK47 Kalasnjikov with added hardware, real Russian SVD will cost you 10,000 to 12,000 US dollars. What you are talking about is Romanian FPK Avtomat "Dragunov" there are many variants and they are good weapons but not even close to real Dragunov

The Dragunov is made to be light and mobile and deliver rapid semi auto shots with average accuracy where the M-200 and M24 are made for exteme accuracy in a fixed position. Different rifles, different purposes.

actually, even svd variant used on squad level in russian army has moa comparable with remington 700 variants, when using 7N14 sniper-grade ammunition. the myth about svd being relatively inaccurate appeared probably because of widespread use in 3rd world countries which don't produce quality ammunition for their forces.

and accuracy does drop a lot when using standard ammo
