Maybe its cause I'm older, but we were never concerned with labels and theory. You think these guys set out to make a "blank" record? Hell, no. It's sound and words and an expression. That's it, that's all. We'd go to gigs, we'd move our feet, we'd drink some beer, and hope to meet a nice chick. It's beauty is it's unabashed need for explanation and you're ruining it. Do you talk during sex too?
@krosm the kids that are making the music are too busy to get on youtube and blab about how important music theory is, because really music theory is just people trying to make sense of one of the rawest forms of art.

I don't understand what emo is! !! But, I looked up scary kids scaring kids, and it was another band, and in the comments I slowly began to realize. .. Cap'n Jazz isn't that. ..
Wow, I cannot believe people are talking about this song/band....I cant believe they get any recognition at all. That being said, I do like this song.
Emotional hardcore and all of its byproducts are simply wonderful. I love how the community of 'true emo' revivalists have absorbed and appreciated some of the worlds most talented and expressive musical genres, like how screamo has evolved and almost merged with post-rock, and this brand of indiemo has grown with and encompassed much of the math rock scene. It's almost transcendental, in a way, how it balances technical musicianship and music theory without distancing the audience.
I think this would be better if you could actually hear and understand the lyrics....its allways soooo much better when they lyrics are understandable.
"i like this part, but not the rest." "i like them but they kinda suck." BLAH BLAH BLAH. If you don't like something or see it as anything special, don't waste your life on it. 'nuff said.
@CondomsonRccars They're not that popular at my school either. And gaiaonline is not a school...I'm confused...how did you get the idea that I was mentioning school from my earlier post?
@itsonlyonyxia A lot of people on gaia in the music forum are actually very educated on music (they compromise of the ages of 18-28) ... And I in no way let them influence what I listen to, I just don't happen to enjoy this band as much as everyone else.
I love the beginning, rest is also good but "oh messy life" really is a shitty title. Irony to the point of vomiting - there, i said it. No one feels the same?
@Danthedeipnosophist I do know what irony means thank you, but if the title isn't ironic it's just pathetic for the sake of being pathetic, and that's not better. The band definitely have it's moments, but I like Beat Happening's naïvity a lot more.
Figuring out the timing and the beginning is just octaves of the base notes, except G, which is an octave up to a higher G. It's pretty simple.
Good luck! I'm posting a cover of this myself, So that's why I figured it out. I just thought I'd let everyone know so they can enjoy playing this song to :D
I read in a magazine once that Tim Mcllrath's vocal style was ifluenced by Tim Kinsella. I can't believe you know about Baxter. I was just listening to them earlier today. Great band.
@crassisdead hahaha Baxter hell yeah...saw them at some Knights Of Columbus in the nw burbs of chicago,,,you know they have a 2 disc CD floating around?
@slowfaller That's awesome dude. To be honest, I've only seen one picture of them playing. I don't know why they're so obscure. Yeah I know about the 2 disc CD. This may sound pathetic but my one of my goals in life is to get my hands on a copy of it.
@crassisdead Years ago I knew the guy selling the Baxter CDs. I'm gonna reach out to my facebook friends and maybe I can score a used copy for you seeing how I lost mine. I'll let you know.
@crassisdead Alright, I got the guy's number who pressed the Baxter CD's and his wife says there are 3 left. I'll call him tomorrow for you man! Glad I can help out :D
@crassisdead Hey I should be picking up the Baxter CD this Sunday, 8/1. It's $10 and you can paypal me it when I mail it. Messege me an addy I can send it to.
@slowfaller Oh shit dude, I thought you were going to just mail it for free. I would definitely send you the money if I had some but unfortunately I don't have any money (I'm 16). Sorry about making you go through the trouble getting the CD and all that.
where did all these little hating internet users come from? who cares who likes this music, u would ssume the more the better...cd sales and more concerts n such....but i guess its only cool if its a small entity that ur a part of right?
faggot kids saw us or heard of "emos" from a friend and they took one good look, and tried to turn it into something completely different. "emotional hardcore," "emo" or whatever you want to call it isn't about tearing people apart or partying until you're dead, nor is it about wearing neon colors and having the same, unwashed feathered hair as everyone else.
it's something completely different and kids don't realize that at all.

@OhTheSea Emo's have always been hated. even in the 80s and 90s punks and hardcore kids used emo as an insult, just the way it is deal with it emos are, always have and always will be outcasts :)
