  • I love Michael Ball, he´s great. But he should sing with Sarah Brightman.

  • @CallumJStewart hmm I used to hate vibrato when I was younger. I kinda got used to it with time, now I can appreciate it. But calling them "sheep voices" is offensive, besides it's their style. You call sheep voices like Miley Cyrus and Rihanna.

  • michael ball always seem to sound fantastic live. put him in a studio to record.. :(

would love for a production to have michael ball (in his prime) as raoul, john owen jones as the definitive phantom, and gina beck as christine.........what a show that would be.

  • @jgalt7 hey i noticed that too!! i got Les Miserables 10th Anniversary where he plays Marius and simply fell in love with his voice. then i went like crazy for his albums and stuff and got shocked. he's a very good singer but something is missing when I hear his studio tracks...

  • I have this song on my wedding video love it

  • Michael Ball is one of the best in All I Ask of You. I would like to see Hayley Westenra play Christine; she fits the part with the ingenue good looks and the terrific soprano voice. She would have been great for the POTO movie.

  • That was FANTASTIC!!! Did Michael ever play Raul in any Phantom production?

  • @startobe22 He did indeed play Raoul in one of the early West End productions during the late eighties.

  • @jemmabond Thank you for telling me. By the way, how AWESOME is that?

  • When I was new to this whole opera/broadway musicals, I always frowned and turned away from the plain, 'old', singers. But now that I've grown into the industry, I can't do anything but fall in love. It's not the physical aspects that matter here, it's the beauty and strength of an actress/singers voice. Just a simple realization.

  • Michael Ball will always be the definitive Raoul ... I've haven't seen anyone else coming close. Except mebbe Lee Mead, who's my 2nd fav Raoul of all time :)

  • in the POTO movie, i felt like patrick wilson did a terrific job. emmy = MEH. gerard butler = we'll he's good-looking but he didn't capture the essence of the phantom

  • Emmy Rossum was woefully mis-cast in the film. She didn't have the voice for the role. But then, the film was made for teenagers who like horror films and not fans of the show - hence the terrible casting all round.

  • she isnt bad. But she isn't that good. Sorry.

  • MICHAEL BALL <3

  • I saw a program about these Royal Variety Shows and Michael Ball said that the only thing they were thinking about when they did this performance, was to stay upright. The floor was extremely polished and during the rehearsals they were sliding all over it and falling to the ground. I think he called it the scariest moment ever at a Royal Variety Show(he has been in 5)

  • Raoul + Marius????? Too much for me to handle!!!!

  • Does it seem to anyone that when he holds her at the Let Me Lead you from your solitude bit, it looks like how he held Eponine in Les Miserables?

  • he's the best raul ever!!! don't like her..Christine should be gentle and warm in this duet, and Claire is just screaming -_-

  • @TheBelcantolover I'm happy you think the same as me

  • I prefer the Phantom (in the real movie Chirstine is so dumb! I would prefer true love...) Anyways, I love this song anyways!!! :)

  • This says it's a tribute, does that mean this isn't from the actual show? Obviously I know the song is but I've never seen it live so I was just wondering because there's not any props or anything on the stage.

  • @demigodcabin6 This is from The Royal Variety Performance in 1991. It's part of an about 30-minute long tribute to Cameron Mackintosh. It included songs from "Song and Dance", "The Card", "Five Guys Named Moe", "Follies", "My Fair Lady", "Oliver!", "Miss Saigon", "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera" and "Les Misérables".

  • SCREW the phantom, I want Michael Ball!

  • Michael is AMAZING *fangirlish squeal* :-D

  • Dear God I hate vibrato...

  • isn't she singing this lower than normal, at the beginning?

  • Michael Ball *swoon*

  • I would have prefered michael ball being the phantom of the opera and singing the music of the night.

  • @nktu23 michael have recorded Music of the Night(and the title song as well) and has sung it in concert.

I would love to see him play the Phantom one day, but I guess he has enough on his plate at the moment with Sweeney Todd opening in less than a month. :)

  • she should be singing this a little less loud. she's def better than the girl in the movie but uh... she's still not really one with the character

  • o hes so cute :)

  • Nice...~! Great~! :)

  • I wonder if ALW secretly wished he had chosen Claire as Christine with Sarah as the understudy!

  • @tagdam1 LOL... I doubt it! Especially since he wrote the music with Sarah in mind.

I'm not too keen on Sarah's voice myself, but I have to admit that she is my favorite Christine.

  • Claire Moore is absolutely one of my favourite Christine's... ever.

  • I can't stand purists who refuse to acknowledge the greatness of something just because it didn't come first. I vastly prefer Emmy's style in the role of Christine, with much less vibrato and less overpowering. There's an innocence to her voice that Moore just doesn't have. She's more like Contessa. Michael Ball, on the other hand, nailed it. Just nailed it.

  • This is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Emmy was too wooden and had no charisma,Claire Moore was a great favourite in London and many people i spoke to,who had seen both, said they preferred Claire to Sarah Brightman. Then again Sarah was married to the composer so it was fait accomplis.

  • Emmy is the best ..!!!She sings with her heart... :) she feels every word that she sings...

  • @vpierrus878 so true emmy rossum sings as if she is there and is alone with patrick wilson and they are totally in love where claire sounds like she is acting which she obviously is so im with you EMMY ROCKS!!!

  • I never knew that Michael Ball Performed Raoul o.o

  • @RosesNightengales He was Raoul in the 2nd London cast back in 1987-88

  • beautiful....

  • Great song no doudbt i use to sing it aswell

  • What great shots of Christine's dress!

  • emmy rossum shows no emotion in that movie ever!

  • BETTER than Sarah Brightman

  • wow she is way more like christine than sarah brightman

  • Yes. Claire can actually act.

  • This is amazing...

  • michael Ball strarred in hairspray , didn't he...?

  • he did.

  • @mutzaxedin Yes, he does. He play Edna Turnblad!

  • no offence to all the other female performers but claire is the best, she has the most standout voice in all her musicals.

  • i love claire

  • one thing is for sure, she is better than sarah brightman. talk about awful

  • clair moore is like christine and sarah brightman is carlotta!

  • How I love that dress...

  • why do you guys have to compare? all of them must be pretty good, or they wouldn't of gotten hired! relax.

  • His voice is giving me an orgasm haha That's how good he is

  • emmy rossum is nothing compared to claire moore, sarah brightman etc

    NOTHING

she's good for her age but she's not the best.. sorry

  • @candyfloss3000 finally someone who doesnt think emmy was the best! I agree they were so much better

  • For God's sake, do you think Patrick Wilson and much, MUCH less Emmy Rossum will last more than 10 seconds on the stage?

I give them that much time at most before they are booed out and thrown food and tickets at.

  • Ok,fine. You're right. Really. I'm sorry, ok?

My life isn't going very well, and I'm angrey about it.

    But you're not guilty. Sorry.

Well, I keep sayinh I love the movie. If you don't, well, I can do nothing about it.

    Sorry, once again. :S

    Kiss

  • Comment removed

  • Why not?! Hey, I'm just giving my opinion -.-

I you don't like Patrick and Emmy, right?

Ok, I'm not angry! I was just giving my opinion. I don't like this woman's voice. I think that's too... God, I can't explain. But...

    GOD, THAT'S MY OPINION, OK?!

Sorry if I love the movie! I love Emmy, I love Patrick and I love Gerard. I think they're amazing.

  • Then ask yourself why you made those comments in the first place, then look at my comments.

Notice how my comments are none more, if not less, offensive than yours?

SO SORRY if I love the stageplay MORE than the movie and felt like responding to your opinion with MY opinion..

  • dude Emmy Rossum????

    get real.

    fuck shes awful.

  • I get real -.-

That's my opinion. Fuck? Fuck you .|.

Sorry if I have a different opinion!

  • this girl played the role of "ellen" in Miss Saigon. she was good there but she's not fit for Christine... tsk tsk...

  • She was hired as an alternate to Sarah Brightman in the original production of Phantom

  • you're silly :D very silly! honestly, even though its an opinion its....silly. no offense. christine is suppossed to be a classically trained singer with a strong beautiful voice. its suposed to be clear and supported and very sweet, as described in the book, and her voice is IT. (sorry i get quite a bit defensive when it comes to claire)

  • The best Christine ever is the girl from the movie

  • Ha.

  • I'm not saying I don't like her or that she can't sing, because she definitly can, but for me, personally, the Christine from the movie is the ultimate Christine

  • Emmy Rossum is a joke. She should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Claire Moore.

  • They're different classes of singers who sing very different types of music in different ways. I love both versions, and can't compare them in my mind. Emmy Rossum is spectacular with her performance, and Claire Moore is flawless. Micheal Ball, however, MAKES this song. =D *micheal ball fangirl*

  • I'm relieved to see an informed opinion on the matter. 'Nuff said.

But really, I'm so amused by your user name!

  • Spectacular for Emmy is a bit of an overstatement. She's okay.

  • I completly agree :DD

  • THAT'S RIGHT! The best Christine is Emmy Rossum. Her voice is really good.

  • the movie version is the best!

    <3 Emmy Rossum!

  • BAHA no.

  • Completly agree with you, dreamcoat123. :'D

  • Michael Ball's voice makes me melt...I love him.

  • oh, she sucks

  • lol :)

  • claire=galctic win. but why does she look liek a prettier version of sarah brightman?

  • I love Michael Ball. His voice is incredible! And his dimples are adorable. :)

  • luv Claire, I just rented the Christmas Carol the Musical and she was in the credits as Mrs. Fezziwig and I was like "Oh my god!" no way!

  • <3 Michael Ball! Is he the original Raoul cause I have the original cast, obviously Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, but it wouldnt tell me who raoul was. Am I right?

  • It's Steve Barton on the OLC.

  • Everyone is better than Sarash Brightman.

  • wow this is bad not the best at all this is like i want to sing like them but i cant ...wow

  • Wow Claire Moore is SOOO much better than Sarah Brightman!

  • I love Michael Ball...I like Claire better than Sarah Brightman, but still...eh...

  • Quick question:

What was Cameron Mackintosh's involvement in Phantom?

  • Producer.

  • and in Les Mis?

  • Producer.

  • wasn't that guy Marius?

  • Yes.

  • Totally recognized him!

  • Good job!!!! :o)

  • DUDE that dress is REDICULOUS! xD but her singing is phenominal!

  • gahaha yeah XP

  • she looks like a christmas ornament 0.0

  • hahahaha

  • I wonder if she slipped him her tongue !

  • i love this pair as christine and raoul!

i think sarah brightman's voice is too... airy? i dunno it just... doesnt flow as nice as claire moore :)

and michael ball is just amazing as usual *sigh*

    <3

  • best ever i am a singer and just melt every time i play this. where are singers like this today instead of all that garbage they throw at us.

  • Now this is a DUET!

  • Steve barton was the original on Broadway... not Michael Ball. Steve was the original stage Raoul.

  • she looks alot like sarah

  • re personslatestflame08:

They did that in the original production on purpose. Claire was Sarah Brightman's alternate, so they wanted to match up their looks as much as possible.

  • did she take over in london?? and was dale kirstein the broadway alternate??

  • I did a workshop with Claire and WOW is all i can say. I feel alot more confident than i did.

  • Double WOW!!!

It was such a fab day. I'm proud of all three of you getting to sing with her i learned so much, never mind you guys xx

  • micheal ball, one of the best singers you will EVER come across =]

    x

  • gah i never really like her....

  • Didn't this Raoul play Marious in The 10th Anniversery concert for Les Mis?

  • Yes, Michael Ball was the original in NY Broadway and returned for the 10th anniversary.

  • He wasn't marius in the production David Byrant was the original Broadway Marius. Michael is the origincal London, Complete Symphonic and 10th annviersary Marius

  • Not bad at all. Just listened to Michael Crawford and Barbara Bonneys version and that is probably the best version I've heard so far but this isn't bad. Like both Michaels and Claire Moore is growing on me.

  • this is the best song ever

    he did it well

    shes ok

  • yah, she's just ok...

  • I like the guys voice and it is even better cuzs he is a baritone and her voice was ok but I like it cuzs it is not HIGH THE WHOLE TIME THEY ARE SINGING witch ROCKS

  • Michael Ball is a belter, not a Bari. Big difference, a real Baritone could barely even sing this song.

  • @decunder08 Michael is a high baritone

  • I cannot STAND that chick's voice. Too nasely.

  • the voice of the guy is great. not a fan of the girl's though. i guess i just imagined in sweeter

  • Excelent singers.

  • ,sdnbfkasdhfksajg

  • Are all the dresses that big?

  • he was soo gawgus at this time.

  • Amazing. thanks!

  • Michael Ball is the best tenor to set foot on a Broadway stage. Period.

  • he's a baritone. but who cares? he's gorgeous!

  • was she... pregnant? or is it just a bad empire?

  • damn thats a big dress

  • my god i thought carlotta's il muto dress was big in the movie version of the phantom... but then i saw this on christine and it drawfs her more than the il muto dress does mini driver

  • Some real emotion - unlike the originals.

  • the originals had plenty of real emotion. It was the movie actors who murdered the roles.

  • Just my opinion. Steve Barton + Sarah Brightman = wooden acting. Claire Moore + Michael Ball = hot, hot, hot.

  • must i say, i like ur opinion A LOT!!!!

  • I totally agree!

  • Claire Moore & Michael Ball = love. A joy to listen to - thanks for posting it, mimibarthez!

  • Ahh I love this song... can't wait to go c Phantom! Kiss at the end was so sweet!

  • *cough* Uhm, in this song he's Raoul.

  • Michael Ball makes a better phantom in my opinion...hes awesome

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • Claire Moore and Michael Ball! Hurrah! I love both of their voices. :)
