  • Nice job man! I was trying to figure it out a few things about that song, watching you playing really helped me. Now I´ll go practice, thanks!

  • you are the best :)

  • clicked on it by mistake nicely done very nice

  • Great cover! You did an incredible job, mate. Nice.

  • Nice sound and smooth playin' bro.

  • Dude, This is absolutely brilliant!

  • what is the first chord that you play? i've always wondered that

  • @squ51 You can play it in two positions - the first one (which I prefer because of the less bassy ring in the lower position of the neck): -x- -6- -3- -5- -3- -x- Or the second way (closer to the overall playing position of the rest of the song): -x- -x- -10- -8- -10- -8- Hope that helps ;)
  • @leozingy great thanks

  • Hey man, do you have a tab of your version? Would be very happy if you could help me out?

  • @EnforcedFXS Sorry, no tabs. I figured it out by ear.

  • gday mate,i've got a jimmie as well, have had it for about 10 years, unfortunately i've swaped the pickups and lost the originals somewhere.Any chance i can buy your jimmie pickups?

  • @DanielGrozier Read the video info - "Played on a Jimmie Vaughan Stratocaster with Haeussel pickups". Don't have the original Tex-Mex pickups anymore, they were horrible - wiry and thin. Sold them right away. You can still get them (they're usually the cheapest Fender pickups in the store).

  • @leozingy I'm curious, why did you choose the Jimmy Vaughn? I looking to get a Strat for blues.

  • @Gideon6640man I used to play with a band which covered Fabulous Thunderbirds songs (JLV used to play with them) and found a great deal on a used one. So I picked it up, swapped the pickups for handmade ones and it rocks. But if I were to buy a Strat again, I'd go for the Robert Cray (hardtail, no trem, I don't use it much) or a Deluxe (with the S-1 switching, rosewood fboard is a must).

  • nice sound !

  • And it sounds spot on, thanks for your help and please do a lesson on the song, ive been thinking of saving up to go to the crossroads festival maybe the year after next

  • it would be really helpful, ive just had a quick play along with the song there

  • thanks ill give it a go, the chords i found are completely different but the ones you use sound alot more like a real thing, what fret are the chords played at? your tone is stunning by the way, the closest ive got is on my custom 335 build middle position with the pickups switched out of phase with a bit of reverb

  • @notoriousrickyc Yes, it's got to be out of phase (the 2 and 4 positions on the Strat are spot on Cray). The tone would be better if I'd been playing my Princeton Reverb Reissue though (I'm using the Fender G-Dec here, still great tone). Here's the chords in tab: C minor -8- -8- -8- -x- -x- -x- D# major -x- -8- -8- -8- -x- -x- F major -x- -10- -10- -10- -x- -x- A# major -x- -6- -7- -8- -x- -x- They're the exact chords Cray plays, saw him play it that way live at a concert in Italy.
  • @leozingy thanks, i really appreciate your help, im sure alot of people would appreciate a video lesson, i know theres quite a few people on ultimate guitar that would like one, i wish i could see him live, the closest ill probably get is on youtube or watching old montreux jazz festival shows

  • @notoriousrickyc Okay, I'll see If I can take the time and do a proper lesson (on this song or maybe his style in general). Yup, he doesn't tour much (at least not around Europe), I took a 650 km train ride to see him play...

  • hi is there any chance you could do a video with a better look at you fretting hand, i think i know the chords but cant get them in the right place, and i cant figure out the little licks that he does, its one of my all time favorite sounds and really want to learn to play it but theres nothing at all online to help me, any help at all would be much appreciated

  • @notoriousrickyc

The chords are - C minor, D# major, F major, D# major, A# major (quickly) and back to C minor. Only use the top three or the next three adjacent strings to play the basic riff.

You should really figure out the licks by ear, that's how I learned them and that way I learned the most out of it!

Hmmm... if there's enough interest, I'll do a lesson on it and explain Cray's style a bit...

  • Really great clean tone there!

  • Sorry, I learned this by ear. Don't have tabs, transcribing takes a lot of time (which I don't have right now). It's not that hard, try figuring it out. Hope this video helps...

  • Is there any possibility you could transcribe tabs for the song?
