I can't help but wonder why someone would insert an infusion set before the pump was primed. There would be a lot of air in the system that you wouldn't want to pump into yourself.
Very unfortunate never the less. So what happened in the end? I have an Animas 2020 and they actually mailed out an addendum to the user manual for this very issue.
My 2020 was just replaced for pretty much the opposite reason - it wouldn't load all the way and would give me an error after priming 15-20 units.
I have the same pump and had the same failure, but I call them and they sent me a box with a new one and a return box for my broken on. sent it in and all problems were fixed in less than 24 hrs.
That may be however I didn't find out about the problem until after it emptied an entire vial of insulin in me. They told me in not so many words not their problem on the hopsitalization.
Yes I agree but when you are trying to get hospital bills paid because of medical device malfunction it doesn't help. I was not looking to nickel and dime them with pain and suffering just the medical cost related to the pump
tgrik: I forgot to ask you--how did you find out that your pump had failed? Was it your pump? did your blood sugar level fall as a result of the failure? Thanks!
tgrik: Thanks for your response. I work as a research assistant for a law firm and the husband of the woman ( a 42-year old who is still in a coma after 2 weeks) has asked us to help him get to the bottom of this. Like you, he is not willing to relinquish the pump, but went to the endo's office where they downloaded the info. Please let us know if we can help you in any way as you continue to seek your own answers.
tgrik: I know of a case in which a woman who was using an animus pump changed the battery and apparently primed the pump, but ended up in a diabetic coma. I would appear that a scenario similar to what you demonstrated in your video may have occurred. Could you please respond to me and let me know if J&J has ever made a good faith response to you. Thanks!
They have done nothing but push me away. I requested someone come out to inspect the pump and they refused. I sent the vidoe and according to one of their idiots they cannot say the pump is defective. I have asked for very little and didnt even consider pain and suffering. They are a joke at best and I am now going to purse this thru a lawyer. An absolute bunch of morons. Thanks for asking and spread the word about this so other may know the danger of their crappy products.
You may have pump that works very but as you can see this one does not. This video is out there as a warning to users. I would hate to see this happen to anyone and to date Animas the great company they are have done nothing to resolve this.
I'm looking into getting an animas pump, Ping, but I think it's good you are vocal about the problems because it is very important to know what can go wrong and I really really hope they had yours fixed, it's our health and life that depends on a machine and if the company can't do everything in their power to help those who need it that's just wrong
All the best to you - hope the issue was resolved :)
