I bought a custom pair and they f*&(ed up the right foot, I sent them back, they fixed it but ended up being too small, tried again with new measurements, then they called me and said "we can't afford to make you another pair". wtf?
If you are getting smelly leather you may have other issues. I use NeatsFoot oil before and after Hot stretching the leather. My current mid range boots get soak daily in the wet days in the winter and a holding up fine,3 years old and still solid considering they cost me $100.00.Redwings last 6 months for me.
Hey man thanks for the vid. There is a serious lack of videos on these here on YouTube. Would like to see a followup vid and hear what you think after using them for a year.
Amazing boots!!!! I've owned whites since the early 90's. You'll not find a boot that holds up as well or supports your feet as well. I've tried em all.
I still have (and use) two pairs of White's smokejumpers. The first pair I bought in 1982 when I was on a helishot crew on the Sequoia. I had them rebuilt in 1987. The second pair I bought my rookie smokejumper year in1985. They are overdue for a rebuild but still serviceable. I have never worn a better pair of boots for working in the woods
I don't get why someone would buy the best boot with out need or knowledge of them? Hawthorns and whites need to be broken in... If you get them in town you can boil some water and pour it in your boots when it's cooled a bit and then lace them up tight... once dried oil them and they should be prettey worn in... But drying takes hours. I got my hawthorns in a town stop our trail crew made... But I found they were so comfortable they didn't need to be broken in anymore then just wearing and wor
I'm still wearing the same pair of Whites Smoke Jumpers that I got in 2003. They're ready to send in for a rebuild, but I'm waiting for my second pair that I just ordered, to get here. These are Great boots, and I won't wear anything else. I had a little more trouble with the break in period, but the pain was worth it ;) Hope you like them as much as I do.
@longhair51 I just got my first pair of smoke jumpers, if you dont mind me asking, they have a huge arch they call arch ease but actually its such an aggressive arch it digs into the top of my foot. did you find that by yours? will the arch level out as i wear it or is it just not good for my feet
@avi614614 I had to break mine in a little at a time. I would take the whites to work, and wear them until it started to hurt, then change to my old boots. Switching on and off. Another thing that helped was to place moleskin adjacent to any pressure spots. That would relieve the pressure. I did this for a while, then all of a sudden they seemed to conform to me feet, and became the most comfortable shoes/boots that I've ever worn.
I think that if you keep wearing them they will break in nicely. I felt the same way as you, ie. thinking that they wouldn't work. I changed to my old boots, when the whites got too painfull. I did this changing off and on for about 3 weeks, and one day they just seemed to get comfortable. You might try some moleskin around the areas of pressure. That helped me.
great pair of boots! ull enjoy them. if u got the vibram wildland fire sole (i belive its #110) a resole may be necessary as the are quite painful to walk in concrete in (theyre made for wildlands obviously) but whites boots are the BEST pair of boots any person can own. great job!
can you post more videos of these? i dont even care what you post about them i just love whites boots. and i wanna see another video.

The fastest and easy way to break them in is soak them in hot water then walk in them till dry.

@highcountrytimber wouldn't that make them smell bad. When ever boots or shoes get wet the smell awful afterwards for the longest time.
