I think starbucks is over rated, all of the food is over priced and not very good, however I did work at Dunkin' Donuts and there is slightly more to it than you see from the other side, a lot of prep goes into it, and even if it was just handing me a cup, i still tip because the way i see it, its a dollar or less, to me, but if everyone tips like 50 cents, it makes a real difference to the girl at the counter, what could it hurt. I still love foamy though, hes the best!

tips are bullshit anyway. why tip someone for good service (isn't good service supposed to be customary?) at a restaurant but nowhere else, or for that matter, only for the waitress (and maybe the lucky bus boy who gets to share the tips). @krazyzark Believe it or not, in some states, there's a different, LOWER minimum wage for waiters/waitresses. This is because their tips are considered part of their income. As such, though I never tip people who give bad service, I do tip those who did their jobs appropriately.

It winds up being they are payed only with their tips, or they equally split up all the tips gathered every pay period. In both cases it winds up over minimum wage, so its still legal.
Not all waitresses get minimum wage (they should, but many don't). My Gf works at a place where they pay just over $2.00 ph in wages and the staff are expected to make that up in tips. Most days (after an 8 hour shift) she's lucky if she comes home with $35.00 as most people don't know this, and therefore don't tip well. The bus boy & dishwasher get a percent (around 20% ) of the waitresses tips..so they often go home with more cash than she does. It's illegal but it happens.

I tip employees for the service they provide. A pizza delivery driver, yes they have to pay for upkeep on there car and drive in horrible conditions at there own risk so the customer doesn't have to. This reminds me when I went to Jersey a week ago, and the waitress swore at me because I didn't tip her. She went back into the employee room thing, and said " Jesus fucking Christ! I don't think it's right for places to depend on customers to pay their employess salaries by tipping. I didn't hire you, why should I have to pay? I understand you get paid 2 or 3 dollars an hour, but you knew that coming into it. Also, why does it have to be 10 or 15 percent of the meal cost. @Mkayla50 I considered working at starbucks since I do know a good deal about coffee, BUT they only pay minimum wage and you share tips with everyone else you work with. Definately not worth it, especially when starbucks by my house is 4am-midnight, they have weird hours.

I tip employees for the service they provide. A pizza delivery driver, yes they have to pay for upkeep on there car and drive in horrible conditions at there own risk so the customer doesn't have to. A server yes, because they have to clean up the mess that a customer makes with a smile on their face. Coffee server, why? They make a cup of coffee. No risk are mess to clean up. At least a street performer is entertaining. Coffee Jerk needs to milk a cow by hand. Seriously I tip on EFFORT.

If someone works at a skill-less job (cafe, coffee house, etc.), DON'T EXPECT A TIP. If all the person does is pour a cup of coffee or waits tables, don't tip them. It's their fault they messed up, NOT YOURS. The gov't wastes hard earned tax payer money to keep people from becoming homeless, so that they look like the gave a rat's butt.

This reminds me when I went to Jersey a week ago, and the waitress swore at me because I didn't tip her. She went back into the employee room thing, and said " Jesus fucking Christ! " My husband put a tip on the receipt to shut her up and I was pissed when he did. I should go back and tell her not to expect tips when it was HER that made a poor career choice. I love Foamy, I like the valid points on EVERYTHING! Very intelligent, unique and one of a kind.

My mom got pissed and started on how she didn't need a fucking tip when she was dressed like a slutty teenager wearing too-nice clothing and providing poor service.

everyone thinks they deserve a tip. waitresses get tips because ( at least in this state) the minimum wage, for some reason, does not apply to them. still, it depends on service. My standard is 20% just cause its easy to figure. Adjustments are made up or down from there based on service. Once had a waitress follow me to parking lot wondering what was the problem after i left her 3 pennies.... in a pile of ketchup.

I don't think it's right for places to depend on customers to pay their employess salaries by tipping. I didn't hire you, why should I have to pay? I understand you get paid 2 or 3 dollars an hour, but you knew that coming into it. Also, why does it have to be 10 or 15 percent of the meal cost. Just because I want to treat myself to a steak, I have to tip more?
