that track wipped all their stuff xx big time...u2 dance music,,,,refreshing ,,,change of heart .........best stuff have to say....kitchen /clarence..hope nicholas is still on the door, good to have a few old antique,s xxx
This song is fantastic and i'd just like to point out to LoFiRiot that his precious three chords and the thruth U2 used backing tracks for the keyboards in Streets, One Tree Hill and Bad.
fucking great version " AN THERES A PART OF YOU THAT WANTS ME TO RIOT" GREAT GIG PITTY BOUT THE NEIGHBOURS BITCHING .... LAST TIME THEY PLAYED TILL 1AM
I was there for all three croke park nights and this was definitely one of the top highlights. I was in the stand, on the pitch and in the pit and whenever those bobbing heads came on it went crazy. 80,000+ people singing, dancing and clapping to the biggest surprise of the tour so far - this was absolutely crazy (pardon the pun). Is there a more enjoyable live act? I'm going through withdrawal syndrome!
How anyone could say they didn't have an awesome time seeing U2 last weekend in Dublin is beyond me.
Then again no matter how good any experience is there will always be the 0.1% of people who will find something to complain about.
Next time U2 are in town the aforementioned 'complainers' should sit at home in their beige jumpers and trousers and let some people who like to enjoy themselves go to the concert instead.
Seanbean, why are people so aggressive when somebody else points out that the show felt like it had deficiencies? It wasn't a "live" show and at times it lulled disastrously.
Occasionally, it rocked.
Why should I be insulted for thinking this? I've been to shows where the artists actually performed live and were far superior to U2's chubby posturing. Nick Cave in Dublin castle last year springs to mind.
I was there Saturday 25th, which I won tickets for and I bought tickets for Monday 27th. I try to get tickets for every Dublin concert U2 play. The boys outdo themselves every time and put on an amazing show. As a fellow Dub, I am ecstatically proud to say the best band in the world are Irish.
Rock Concerts arent about just the music!!! Its about putting on a show. U2 are one of the best a putting on a show, visually, vocally, musically! What i love about U2 gigs is that the crowd are involved in the music as much as the band are! What a set of gigs in croker!! Awesome.
why dont you stay home if you dont like U2? For me it was the best i've ever seen from them ( and i seen a lot) and i enjoyed myself to the max, and all the people around where going crazy. It was fun and at sometimes very touching ( moment of surrender)
I usually stay at home, but I LIKE U2! I enjoy their music & I agree - it's a show of a different animal to the Boss.
People around me slumped down enraged after "Pride" was over while Bono introduced his issues. It was an appalling lapse in timing, if not taste.
I found the show to be entertaining, for what it was, but they're such great musicians & Bono is such a great singer, they should allow their talents to breathe and rock the joint rather than rely on props, tapes and gimmicks...
No problem at all! :) You weren't rude - it was a reasonable question. I'm glad you enjoyed it - & I maybe biased but yeah - Irish people are cool! :)
I enjoyed this aspect of the show, the Acid House lite approach was fun, you know fun,, sometimes music is sequenced to maximise the experience,, i think to compare this really successful segway to a Britney show, i swell off the mark,,,Since Zoo TV, they have flirted with technology, editing loops, so it is no secret,, but it is fun...you know fun..and very, very effective...
I have to disagree. It was a joyless, clinical performance and the pre-programmed backing & TV-screens dictated the pace of the show, draining it of any opportunity for spontaneity.
I understand why some people enjoy this - I enjoyed it myself, to an extent - but I don't confuse it with a "live" performance.
If anything, the gadgets and gimmicks distract from deficiencies in the performance and I wish they'd unplug the dictatorial machines and just play.
I agree it was clinical, when you play to 80000, i dont imagine you can play it on the fly,, i feel U2 are extemely clinical, clean, organised, disciplined,,and uniformed,, this dedciation to detail shows in their execution of their set??As for it being joyless, i have to say from where iw as it was far from joyless,, quite the opposite actually, i think as entertainers they are in a league of their own, as musicans well they know their limitations. U2 live are the whistles, bells, lights..
I really think you need to see Bruce if you think a show can't be joyful, spontaneous, entertaining, moving and still rock a crowd of over 100,000 people.
While being performed for over THREE hours - without gadgets and sermons - by musicians playing live...
No, i saying, U2 , for me, are the T.P. Barnum of rock, something they are trying to achieve spectacular, something, beyond the ordinary, beyond them doing a Joshua Tree type tour,,something that evolves with them? As forBruce, genius, but different animal altogether to this show,, the show, the U2 show is and will be, pompous, overblown, and not intimate,, it is i feel, a Grand gesture,, a far from humble experience,,take away the smoke and mirrors, and there just 4 guys playing their hits
agree with you ,,,wots with the claw...they dont need it its like pop all over again,,even the hair cut and the flop of the album,,i was very very disapointed with the album,,and now watch clips of the shows im thinkin why all this just need a good sound PA lights ,,and write down the set list 10 mins before show like they did in the erly days
What bolloks! U2 resisted pressure from narrow-minded fools like this LoFiRiot and decided not to limit themselves to what four people can do on a live stage. If you look at any major artist they use other people on set, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones etc. U2 is about 4 blokes off the streets who have done something special with music for 30years. They could have others standing on stage with them if that made you happy, but it defeats the point of 4 guys who have grown up together. Awesome
I would rather they played live, if they still can. On the evidence of the show - they can't. Hence the backing tracks.
It's no longer "3 chords & the truth". Now they have to hide their deficiencies behind gimmicks. You may enjoy the distractions, but for "live" music, U2 might as well pull down the shutters.
As a multi-media event it was often entertaining, often pretentious, but the emporer has new clothes, and they ain't too pretty...
As I said I went all three nights and 'Vertigo', 'Desire', 'Stay', 'City of Blinding Lights' , 'Beautiful Day' 'Angel of Harlem' 'New Years' Day' all seemed to hold up well enough.
Bruce Springsteen has the E-Street Band, Rolling Stones get in plenty of performers, as do several indie bands such as Arcade Fire. You're kidding yourself if you think these artists survive on their own live on stage all the time. They use additional sound to add to what they already produce and I c no issue wit that.
I saw the Boss a little over 2 weeks ago and I thought he was fantastic. Probably the best concert I've been to, until I went to U2 over the weekend. It's interesting that a backing track for a couple of the songs takes away from what the shows really about and I disagree that the show isn't live or is a "gimmick" just because there's a backing track.
But I suppose, as you said, c'est la vie. We all have our own tastes. Just seems odd that you're looking this up if this isn't to yours.
As I said before, I LIKE U2 & I went to the show expecting to be blown away. To an extent I was, but I felt Bono actually blew it after Pride by introducing his politics & lulling the great pace they'd gotten up to.
Plus, the new songs sounded much better live than on the album, but that's not so unusual. Bruce doesn't have a single note on an album that isn't better live.
Glad you enjoyed Bruce too! I was there (RDS) on the Sunday...
Obviously from my name you should be able to see I'm a U2 fan. I told LoFiRiot to fuck off about saying U2 can't play on their own anymore. I take great offense when you tell me to listen to those fags the Jonas Brothers dick. I never said anything bad about U2
drvertigo, live means all instruments are played live. You understand this concept, right? "Live" as opposed to "pre-recorded?" You know the difference?
As for whether U2 can cut it without the gimmicks and distractions, let's hope Larry wins the civil war & they go back to "3 chords & the Truth." I wouldn't count on Bono, though: he looked disinterested & lazy & he SPOKE With or Without You because his voice was fecked...
i dont know how u kept so still (but im glad u did)lol we were dancing like mad. i cant wait for wembly & sheffield but it will never top this night, there is nothing better than dublin, thanks again for the vid, i cant stop watching it
It was hard as it was so great live, i'm going again tomorrow can't wait for this song to come on. Like one of the comments says the video doesn't do it justice. Amazing live.
this is like the best video of this on youtube!!Im glad ya kept still too ha.great quality.were they as good tonight as they were the 1st night?I heard they always give it their all the 1st night and the 1st is always longer.where the script good?
Was in the pit for this. Absolutely unreal. Gotta agree with farnyone and parklife. Place was banging and i'm still buzzing. Can't stop humming. GF is getting a bit demented over it but I just can't help it, it was so unbelievable!!
Thanks for posting, for all of us who are still awaiting more tour dates, please come to Michigan in 2010! Crazy, ROCKED, what a blast to have been there! I love the heads too! U2 is the best band ever!
Desperately looking for tickets to show in Cape Town. Sadly, I've never seen U2 live.

U2 performing "live" to a backing track? Hmm...
The show was good, but too calculated and lacking heart. Ditch the machines and get back to proper live music.
This wasn't the only song to have a program running in the background: "One" had a backing track too, which is woeful for a "live" show...

Bruce plays live as do the Stones, apparently. As in, everyone on stage plays the music you hear & there are no backing tracks.
I think they're different shows, but Bruce plays 3 hours of high octane stuff. I dunno if you've seen him, but I recommend it highly...
