  • The Germans equipped their planes with sirens that let out that long high pitched scream when the planes dove, some people asociated the sound with a banshee scream becuase when you heard it you knew a life or many lives were about to end.

  • @LottoWinner999 dude your embarressing other americans (like me) don't claim single handed victory by Americans. And it's easy to judge when you have 70 years of hind sight. Hitlers Germany (as many Germans are ashamed to associate the country as a whole) was acting agressively like a Rottweiler on a rusty chain. The French and Brits were in no position to make threats.

  • The narrator says "They didn't panic, or run away."

    HELL NO!!!

As an American I declare: This was truly Britain's finest hour.

  • The issue that is over-looked is the Brits do not want others to know that is was theirs and Frances responsibility to stop Hitler in 1936 when reoccupied the Sarr Basin. It would have been easy for Britain or France to nip Hitler in the bud in 1936. I call it laziness or lets get America to do it, as usual France & Britain appeased Hitler until Germany was reamred to the teeth. As usual the USA would be required to save Britain after France had fallen, sounds like the same old broken record.

  • @LottoWinner999 what wed have lost in 1936 the U.Ks and Frances military was totally unprepared for war in 1936

  • @REDbEAr1223 Its in the history books in addition the Germans troops had orders from Hilter to retreat at the first sign of troops. In 1936 Germany total army was 100,000 and France Britain could have easily mounted a force plus have your ambassdors threaten Germany. Hitler played the cards and you lost and that cost millions in dead people and the bloodiest war in history!

  • @REDbEAr1223 Both France & German could have easily defeated Germany. Hitler at that time had ordered German troops to retreat at that the first sign of French or British troops! Germany was not prepared for war in any form or manner! In other words the Germans bluffed Britain & France!

  • i wish UK a bunch of F35 stealth aircraft at that time LMFAO

  • The role that RADAR played for allied victory the Battle of Britain has not been made explicit. It was the key factor. Heroism, courage, innovativeness and patriotism would have gone waste had it not gone into the the development of the RADAR too. Maybe in the upcoming parts. I shall soon see.

  • @82abhilash This is a propaganda film, so off course they're not telling you anything about the aircraft radar. That was still a secret! :p

Germany also had radar technology, but underestimated it's usefulness. In fact, Germany was experimenting on using electromagnetic waves as a weapon, rather than a defense system.

  • That's not Churchill is it?

  • why did the dutch and belgians surrender so quickly ???

  • @rmacg11

They were overrun, and unprepared, The British had the protection of their fleet and channel that bought them time to adjust to the new modern tactics of the german war machine.

  • @JD1010101110 I don't think so because Poland, Holland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark and France proved that Britain had not bought the time to adjust to modern Blitzkieg Tactics until N. Africa. Tallyho!

  • Wow, there's a lot of pathetic replies on here.

    1) Yes the RAF consisted of 40% foreign pilots, but it was a WORLD WAR. We supplied what one small island could, which seems to be more than any other nation could put forward.

    2) If the ENGLISH people surrendered, the war would have been lost. Whilst the ENGLISH prepared for war the Americans & the Russians sat on their arse, both in fact supplying the Nazi's. So yes, thanks for that.

  • @TheBirdys1 lets thank the russians they lost 26 million people in their war

  • "The Battle FOR Britain".

Love of Liberty in contest with the Love of Ideology.

  • What Commonwealth nations have to realise is that there is a great danger in self-promotion. In the case of the Dardenelles campaign, with films like "Gallipoli" and the relentless ANZAC myth, it has created the popular impression (in the UK as well as Australia) that AUS/NZ troops were the only ones there, and that British generals ordered them to be sacrificed. UK men actually made up the vast bulk of those there, bore the brunt of the fighting, and took by far the most casualties.

  • I'm waiting for a documentary that mentions the help Britain got from its allies during the Battle of Britain.

  • You know perfectly well there are dozens, hundreds of documentaries that mention that fact. The World at War (1973) goes into great detail. Even the fictional movie "Battle of Britain" spends half an hour of screen-time detailing the contribution of Polish airmen.

I mean, a South African was the top-scoring RAF ace in BoB, it's not as if the RAF have covered this up. Far from it, they've celebrated the fact.

  • Oh of course I know that. but this could have at least mentioned. that's all i ask of it. just as simple. does not even have to go into details.

just mentioned. it isnt about self-promotion. just a little Recognition oh who was all there.

  • dont you see its trying to make Britain look like it needs help but is still holding on? trying to justify the help

  • at the time that help was very much needed

  • @SirFact Your find the U.S rev.. was a mostly a French victory.

  • @MrGrafted I know.

  • @SirFact And im waiting on a documentary how if it wasn't for the french. America wouldn't have their independence !!

  • Do you mean about the French aid during the American Revolution?

  • Hitler asked Goering what he needed to beat the RAF....Goering replied, " A squadron of Spitfires.." A compliment indeed!

  • Sort of true. The quote was actually uttered by Luftwaffe ace Adolf Galland to Goring (who was not pleased by the reply). But, yes, a compliment to the Spitfire.

  • That happened in the movie Battle of Britain

  • well said ajb1776 but why cant we still refer to the germans as jerries?

  • are there bits missing?

  • got to be honest, if i were churchill, I would written "come and have ago if you think your hard enough", in big black letters on the white cliffs of dover!

  • Great Britain, via winning the Battle of Britain, saved world democracy. So much is truly owed to the oh so few pilots and gunners of the Royal Air Force. Freedom itself commands remembrance of their struggle and sacrifice.

  • No matter how you look at it, that time proved selfevident of what resolve and people can do. We are all in their debt.

  • even if germany invaded britian the resistance would be so much that is would be impossible to keep britian under control

  • why is there an argument on every world war 2 video?

    this is history, chill out

  • The internet is full of Monday morning quaterbacks and know it alls lol

  • for real

  • @cliffburton333 The great thing about History is that it can be interpreted in many different ways, the problem with the internet is that anyone can interpret history, no matter how stupid, racist, (wilfully) ignorant and idiotic their arguments may be.

  • It was men who LOVE democracy who saved Britain and the world NOT just the British

  • Manfrom

Dowding was educated in England from a young age.

My point is very simple Ratios: what percentage of the pilots were English as opposed to Scots? So far you have named one, who was educated in England, maybe you could come up with another, well done.

And where did most of the fighting take place, the Isle of Sky.

  • Soloman1001

What exactly is your problem? "What percentage of the pilots were English...?"

My point is that you appear to suggest that there were only English pilots in RAF Fighter Command when that was not the case. In fact, of the 1,100 or so fighter pilots in July 1940 more than 500 were of other nationalities - 145 Poles, 127 New Zealanders, 112 Canadians, 84 Czechs, 32 Australians, 25 South Africans, 13 French, 10 Irish, 7 Americans. So what's with the "England saved everyone"?

  • Soloman1001

Contd. As for Dowding, what does it matter where he was educated? It doesn't alter the fact that he was a Scot. My point, as I have already mentioned, is that many pilots in RAF Fighter Command were not English. Even within the British contingent there were Scots, Welsh and Ulster pilots. What percentage is hardly the point. Why do you wish to deprive them of the the tribute that they also deserve? It is shameful that you should belittle their contribution to the Battle.

  • attacking a bus av that jerry

  • Ah...

    Glorious propaganda...

Poisoning the mind of man since time immemorial...

  • why dont all of you (Scot's, English, Irsih, ect) put aside your diffrences and work together! imagine if you all stood side by side against hitler! you guys would be able to push forward and win greater victorys for the common good of all of your people.

  • well my father fought with the scots and said they put the fear of gon into the germans all english troops had great respect for scot and irish troops and all out allies. this vid maybe a bit bias but it makes me swell with pride. god bless all our allies. and thank you

  • tomato6999 says

(well my father fought with the scots and said they put the fear of god into the germans)

    I bet. LOL!

    Thanks

  • underfire987

Tell that to the Scots. LOL!

Why do you think Hadrian built a wall.

The Scots hate the English I thought that was common knowledge by now.

  • Sounds very much like the other way around to me. if it was´nt for the English you Scots would be speaking German now. Now that would be a strange dialect, LOL!

The boys of the RAF saved our and your bacon.

NEVER..IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN CONFLICT..WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW.

  • your an idiot

  • Soloman1001

There were Scots, Welsh and Ulster pilots in the RAF fighting in the Battle of Britain (as well as pilots from commonwealth countries - South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, etc). 603 Squadron (City of Edinburgh) were moved to No 11 Group area to take part in the Battle. Air-Vice Marshal Park, C-in-C of 11 Group was a New Zealander. Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, C-in-C of Fighter Command, was a Scot. So what is your point exactly???

  • yeah both my grandfathers fought the nazis in the raf battle of britain.

  • Yeah but your Grandfathers were 2 homosexuals fucking eachother in which they created you FAG!!

  • u pratt, we were the only fuckin country in the world that stood in when hitler started his master plan crap.

    1st ones in FUCK YOU

  • yeah. thx for the help at september campagin douchebags.

  • oh right so there was no English pilots and it wasnt England that was getting the bulk of the attacks and bombing :)?

  • people complain about goebbels propaganda.. lol but this one is not one bit better o.o
