I think you might know my husband, Henry Jones. If you do please me at armywifejones66@hotmail.com. I am trying to gather pics of yall for him. Thank you
@jsykes667 yeah man, it's not like what you see in 'Band of Brothers' anymore. Geneva Convention's technically state a Medic is a non-combatant, but it's just how it works these days. To answer your question, Yes you will carry a rifle/carbine and/or a M9 Pistol into combat. Most medics are in combat arms units, I'd estimate nearly 75% of Army medics if I had to guess.
@luvtwinkie1993 hey, i know what you wrote before you deleted it.. and don't stress. We had some medics attached to us last deployment from a BSTB, two of which were medics. Both of them went on mission and both were awarded a combat medic badge, then as we re-deployed to the states they returned to their unit more decorated than the medics in that unit (BSTB= Brigade Special Troops Batallion)
@Gregnoxy just aim for a good score, if you get over 70 you should be just fine. Medic is also one of only a few available jobs if you are color blind.
i signed up for this mos a few months ago and i had a 78 but the recruiter said that anything above a 70 would of been fine for this job hope that helps you bro
@Gregnoxy dude just get above a 50 & when they tell you all the slots are full and they give you a list of 3 jobs to pick from, sign nothing. They will call you in 2 weeks and say "hey greg gues what...a slot opened up"
@Gregnoxy The most relevant score to my knowlege is a required GT General Technical score of 110 or above on the ASVAB to be a medic though this was waiverable as far as I knew. 68W40M6
Ok, Thanks. When I go back to my recruiter he's gonna tell me my scores and let me pick my MOS. I also had to wait until the 9th because it'll be my 18th birthday and my mom doesn't have my dads death certificate so I cant do anything until 18 now. But again thanks for the update/comment.
what is combat medic like? And what qualifications do you need? Reply ASAP if possible. I go back to my recruiter on 8/9/2011 to pick my MOS. Currently i was going to choose 19D but I see alot of people saying 68Wis good.
@JuniorVell Cav scouts are awesome (19D).. it depends on what you want, you need over a 100 (or 105 can't remember) GT score. If you want to be on the front lines but able to treat wounds at the same time, then go medic. If you want to only pull a trigger, go infantry (or cav scout). Everything you need to know you will learn in AIT and then at your actual unit, only pre-req is over 100GT score (approx 70 on ASVAB).
@Laratron2k i am only in high school but this is my senior year this fall and i have have been a certified EMT fro over a year already now, i have wanted to become a medic in the military for a long time and its one of the reasons i became an EMT first. would you suggest enlisting in the ROTC, or enlisting after college? oh and what's a GT score? thanks. :)
@daspoon456 well if you are going to college you should just go Officer, be a PA or RN. If you want to be a combat medic, you just need a 105+ GT score and a high school diploma. It's really your call, nothing wrong with going to college first just saying it isn't required for combat medic.
@Laratron2k ok, thanks man. yeah i would go to college first most likely because the parents would not approve, and you may or may not know how parents can be when you tell them you want to join the army in the first place. and i also thought waiting till after college because by then i will have had a ton more experience as an EMS person than what i would have if i tried going in the army right after high school.
Check my videos, I uploaded a part 1 of deployment life as a combat medic. Just some clips and images much like this video. Enjoy, and more parts are coming so keep an eye out. thanks for the support everyone, good to be home.
@Laratron2k Re-Uploaded the videos, just search my videos for Parts I and II of deployed pictures/clips. Sorry for the issues with fixing them and getting them back on youtube, enjoy.
@Latestfox as far as Army jobs it's the best in my eyes, he will be challenged in AIT not because it's really hard, because after basic he will want to party in San Antonio. The trick is being able to balance it out neatly. My dad was a Corpsman for marines, good luck to both of you.
@allthatisman209 Yeah I'm a huge fan of Atmosphere, I got Live Fast Bleed Slow tattooed on my back during medic school in Texas. If you are thinking about joining, combat medic is the way to go. That is if you want to be front lines and have the privilege of taking care of the guys around you. You or anyone else can message me, and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. I will also give you my email or facebook addess if you want or need it. Thanks for the comments all.
@Laratron2k you may not see this but if you do please tell me what its like my older brother will be finish basics and going into medic training i just want to know how it is i plan on being a marine one day i hope
Im thinking of becoming one (in Australian Army, i assume it'll be mostly the same as the US.)
Do you need to be specifically good at anything and how good do you need to be (for example chemistry, biology, maths whatever?) and how difficult would you say it is?
I'll be enlisting in two days in the Army National Guard where I'll be leaving in July to become a Combat Medic any tips or advice you can offer? I plan on serving in the Guard to help pay for my college and serve my country and after gain a commission in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer.
I wish you luck in your future, your video is really inspirational. I'd like to be a Combat Medic when i am older, so thank you for giving me more of an more of an insight to Combat Medic Training :)
God Bless to all who serve. I think it is the saddest job, and yet the most touching job. My son is in, and I pray that God will watch over him, so he can continue on with his little girl and his wife. God Bless all fo you. I will keep you in my prayers
@Laratron2k come home safe. I'm going army nurse corps...so I'll be stuck in ft.Sam for like a year... lucky u were prob only there like 15 weeks or so? did u hate it?
You sir are a true hero and all of the combat medics in our US armed forces. I'll hopefully be leaving next summer sometime to become a combat medic. Hooah!!
I head home from Afghanistan in a few months, I have a lot of pictures and will make a 3rd video describing Army life and what it's like to have the best job in the army... Infantry Combat Medic.
Question for ya'll. I signed as a 68W 3 months ago and leave for basic/AIT Jan 4. Im already an EMT so i signed as a CASP candidate so im an E-4 and am accelerated to the 8th week of AIT. Do you think i will have problems with comradery and learning?
@Jahr30 I have some guys in my platoon here in Afghanistan that fast tracked in AIT (68W) and said they had no problem keeping up. Also as far as "fitting in" I'm sure you will be fine, it's only another 8 weeks from where you will be thrown in. Trust me it will fly by.
I'm a former 1st Cav Medic. For those of you thinking about serving now, just give it 120% from boot all the way through medic training and beyond. In war or peacetime, the "docs" are all many line troops ever see. You have to be the best. People's lives depend on it every single day and that ain't no movie. You can't call for any "timeouts" when you're feeling stressed (and you will be, believe me), you just drive on. Make sure you want it that badly before you sign.
Can anyone help me im thinking about becoming a army combat medic, 68w i think? anyway im wondering do they only get medical training? do they get any form of combat training like infantry? I dont expect to be at the front of the line breaking the door down, but will i at least get basic gun training and fighting training? nd is there anything to make sure im attached with the infantry? I know that was alot but im really considering joining after this year. Senior year in h.s hells YEAHHH!!
@MrAMotion as soon as you deploy, usually airborne medics get Italy or Korea over seas asignments pretty easy as well as 82 airborne in the u.s. Italy is 1-73 they are portrayed in the book 'War' by Sebastian Junger.
@Jahr30 You may or may not see combat, Jahr. The current situation with Iraq is closing down, and now it's focusing in Afghanistan where the Marines are currently mainly doing combat operations. However, if you are attached to a combat unit there is a definite chance you will see combat if they are ever deployed.
@TheDoc1708 Yeah Cpt. Nurse was my favorite as well, personally I miss SSG O'Brien and the way he yelled at 1st Platoon. SSG Akia works at Golf now, last I heard
ALPHA 232 MED BN 32 MED BDE Class 17-08 Fort Sam Houston Texas 2nd Platoon Regulators!!!!!!! miss ya Sgt. Navarro Damn what a ride Senior was a trip right guys
@haotianguo It's by Atmosphere I think it is called Yesterday, I haven't seen this video since I left because our computers in afghanistan don't allow youtube videos.. i can only see the comments.
I posted a second video with pictures of Army life as i've experienced it so far. Mainly did it for the people wondering about what to expect from Active Duty army while at a normal duty station.
A book about my sister brigade here at 10th Mountain Division was just released. A few medics from my training and this video were there, and just got home. Just in time for me to leave, the book is called 'Bring the Heat' by: Mike Tucker.
no problem just happy to lead people to deciding to be a medic. I leave soon for afghanistan, but look forward to reading comments when i get back in 15-18months
I have some curiosities, I am male I have 68w in my contract, am I certain to be a combat medic or could I have other jobs available to try. "Im not scared just curious". thx
68WY10 is a normal combat medic, if you have another identifier like 68WM6 for instance.. which is a LPN(nurse) you will have to check your contract. You can always try and go to additional schools after you get your 68W status. Usually you can get those after being in for a while or as a re-enlistment package.
@TraeR1992 they have pararescue in the Air Force, they also have aerospace medical its not quite combat medic, its mainly nursing type duties, but the if you want emt/paramedic type job go with Army or Coast Guard they had the best options for me, im no expert on the subject im currently in the process of joining the army as 68w so if someone has better info take it, all i have to offer is what ive heard and researched. go talk to recruiters you don't have join just see what they have to offer
I'm not sure about Air Force but Eck432 seems to have checked it out. If you want to be in the war, with a M4 and medical supplies on the line... Army Combat Medic is your choice.. and yes you can chose to be whatever you want in the army as long as you get a good enough score on the entry test.
Anyone notice that the O4 pointed out at the end is long tabbed? Anyone wearing a tab other than airborne above their unit patch earned it, and chances are above excellent that they know more about TCCC through BTDT experience than your cadre. Young scooters would do well to heed their words.
yeah, if you deploy and are Male... and get put into a combat arms unit i.e. Infantry, Artillery, Combat Engineer(sapper), EOD, Mech Infantry(3rd ID) chances are you will be on every patrol set outside of the wire.. where soldiers go a medic is there. that is what i love about it, and you have to.. a scared medic is useless
@azst52 honestly, you can request to your recruiter to be posted at popular infantry posts.. i.e. 10th Mountain Light Infantry, 82, 101, 3rd ID etc.. but 90% of the time it's random, males have a high chance of being attached to infantry/line units right off.
@Laratron2k Im planing on doing it with the national guard becasue i want to go to my college is it harder or eaiser and does it require more training????
@azst52 you don't have to work your way up it. A line medic is one the many places you could go as a medic. You could get sent to a hospital, a medical company working with other medical MOS's, or you could go to other battalions that aren't infantry or armor, like engineers, MP, or artillery. It's all up to the army. Laratron2k is correct. It is random, but males most likely get sent to combat arms units.
Im hoping to do this after high school. Im gettin in shape and trying to take physics and human anatomy to get a good ASVAB score for 68w. Great pictures and good song. Some pictures look like hot days. How do you get used to the heat from the sun and the weight you gata carry? anyway 5/5
Hey LaraTron2k, I've heard that the m16 is a crappy weapon because of the jamming and lack of power. Do you agree? Just wondering because i've never asked that question to somebody that has been in the Army.
the m16 is a better weapons system than the m4 on the basis of accuracy, higher muzzle velocity , longer maximum effective range, and as far as jamming ??? every US weapons system jams too often. the .50 cal is a badass machine gun, but that SOB even jams. in combat we use mostly just m4's because of the versability of that rifle. the m16 is too long for MOUT fighting (urban Operations) and the m4 is slightly lighter weight.
17-08 was alpha littlewimpyhero, where did you get sent? I'm in Fort Drum with 10th Mountain Light Infantry Div. we just got our orders changed from Iraq to Afghanistan we leave in a few months. As part of that 30,000 troop surge.
i thought we were done with iraq, you will have fun in iraq... from what i've heard it's not bad at all these days. Internet, phones, food, hardened shelter etc... beats MRE's no showers/phone/internet and sleeping in tents for a year haha. But who am i kidding if i say i'm not kind of excited.
I just signed as 68W and will be going to Basic in Fort Jackson March 08, 2009 and then on to Fort Sam Houston. If anybody is entering at the same time please e-mail me. Also, any information about M6(LPN) training would be helpful. God Bless.
haha Fort Jackson... lucky!! "relaxin' Jackson" thats the same time i leave for afghanistan, M6 is a good choice for advancement once you are out of the army. If you want to work in a hospital and not be in a infantry or field artillery unit out in the shit, go M6. If you want the Hoah! roll out of the wire with convoys load blackhawks with casualties on landing zones you setup... and be called DOC by your guys stay 68W and consider M6 later on in your Military career.
i want to become an army medic . what are allthe things that ill have to do to become a medic and to actually do the feild work. and what are classes like easy, hard , or in the middle plz let me know these things
First of all talk to a recruiter, take the placement test. If you have the option to pick 68W(Combat Medic) then ask about enlistment bonuses, Airborne etc...As far as schooling, you should be ok if you score high enough to choose it. If you feel you need to, take a basic anatomy and terminology class.
it's not very high, if you are worried just go buy the asvab study guid and do some of the practice tests. If you just graduated high school it should be no trouble, i was out for 4 years before I took it.
@jdocmedic Excume sir, but i have a question..I want to enter the army and get this MOS...what do I have to do to get it? By the way im studying to become a paramedic and ill join when im done....does having that kind of preparation ifluence the chances of me getting that MOS?
the casualty had a impaled object in his arm. I think he was applying a tourniqet in case they had arterial bleeding, before taking them out of the line of fire.
Are these pictures from Fort Sam Houston? Because thats where I am, but Im Air Force.

I know that was alot but im really considering joining after this year. Senior year in h.s hells YEAHHH!!

im enlisted as a combat medic and i really want to see action, how often do they see it? espescially if they got the airborne option?
MrAMotion 1 year ago
@MrAMotion as soon as you deploy, usually airborne medics get Italy or Korea over seas asignments pretty easy as well as 82 airborne in the u.s. Italy is 1-73 they are portrayed in the book 'War' by Sebastian Junger.

if i join the reserves as a 68w will i be attached to a combat unit and see combat?
Jahr30 1 year ago
@Jahr30 You may or may not see combat, Jahr. The current situation with Iraq is closing down, and now it's focusing in Afghanistan where the Marines are currently mainly doing combat operations. However, if you are attached to a combat unit there is a definite chance you will see combat if they are ever deployed.

I have some curiosities, I am male I have 68w in my contract, am I certain to be a combat medic or could I have other jobs available to try. "Im not scared just curious". thx
badwes21 2 years ago
68WY10 is a normal combat medic, if you have another identifier like 68WM6 for instance.. which is a LPN(nurse) you will have to check your contract. You can always try and go to additional schools after you get your 68W status. Usually you can get those after being in for a while or as a re-enlistment package.

Are there Combat Medics In the Air Force? If not can you Volunteer to be a combat medic for the army?? Pleease someone help me out with this question
TraeR1992 2 years ago
@TraeR1992 they have pararescue in the Air Force, they also have aerospace medical its not quite combat medic, its mainly nursing type duties, but the if you want emt/paramedic type job go with Army or Coast Guard they had the best options for me, im no expert on the subject im currently in the process of joining the army as 68w so if someone has better info take it, all i have to offer is what ive heard and researched. go talk to recruiters you don't have join just see what they have to offer
eck432 2 years ago
I'm not sure about Air Force but Eck432 seems to have checked it out. If you want to be in the war, with a M4 and medical supplies on the line... Army Combat Medic is your choice.. and yes you can chose to be whatever you want in the army as long as you get a good enough score on the entry test.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
if you want combat and then some do navy hospital corpsman because then you get to be a marine under navy status oorah

Anyone notice that the O4 pointed out at the end is long tabbed? Anyone wearing a tab other than airborne above their unit patch earned it, and chances are above excellent that they know more about TCCC through BTDT experience than your cadre. Young scooters would do well to heed their words.

ME 2 i leave may 18 but im still confused do medics see as much combat as infantry?
Vikedog2700 2 years ago
yeah, if you deploy and are Male... and get put into a combat arms unit i.e. Infantry, Artillery, Combat Engineer(sapper), EOD, Mech Infantry(3rd ID) chances are you will be on every patrol set outside of the wire.. where soldiers go a medic is there. that is what i love about it, and you have to.. a scared medic is useless

Can you enlist as a line medic detached with an infantry unit or do you have to work your way up to that??????????
azst52 2 years ago
@azst52 honestly, you can request to your recruiter to be posted at popular infantry posts.. i.e. 10th Mountain Light Infantry, 82, 101, 3rd ID etc.. but 90% of the time it's random, males have a high chance of being attached to infantry/line units right off.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
@Laratron2k Im planing on doing it with the national guard becasue i want to go to my college is it harder or eaiser and does it require more training????
azst52 2 years ago
@azst52 reserve, regular army, guard all train at basic/ AIT together.. then go off to wherever.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
@azst52 you don't have to work your way up it. A line medic is one the many places you could go as a medic. You could get sent to a hospital, a medical company working with other medical MOS's, or you could go to other battalions that aren't infantry or armor, like engineers, MP, or artillery. It's all up to the army. Laratron2k is correct. It is random, but males most likely get sent to combat arms units.

Hey LaraTron2k, I've heard that the m16 is a crappy weapon because of the jamming and lack of power. Do you agree? Just wondering because i've never asked that question to somebody that has been in the Army.
TacticalDude2 2 years ago
the m16 is a better weapons system than the m4 on the basis of accuracy, higher muzzle velocity , longer maximum effective range, and as far as jamming ??? every US weapons system jams too often. the .50 cal is a badass machine gun, but that SOB even jams. in combat we use mostly just m4's because of the versability of that rifle. the m16 is too long for MOUT fighting (urban Operations) and the m4 is slightly lighter weight.

17-08 was alpha littlewimpyhero, where did you get sent? I'm in Fort Drum with 10th Mountain Light Infantry Div. we just got our orders changed from Iraq to Afghanistan we leave in a few months. As part of that 30,000 troop surge.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
haha. yeah thats my bad. i was thinking 16-09 instead of 17-08. Im 1-82 CAV headed to Iraq in March '10 W/the Oregon NG. 41st IBCT
littlewimpyhero 2 years ago
i thought we were done with iraq, you will have fun in iraq... from what i've heard it's not bad at all these days. Internet, phones, food, hardened shelter etc... beats MRE's no showers/phone/internet and sleeping in tents for a year haha. But who am i kidding if i say i'm not kind of excited.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
I just signed as 68W and will be going to Basic in Fort Jackson March 08, 2009 and then on to Fort Sam Houston. If anybody is entering at the same time please e-mail me. Also, any information about M6(LPN) training would be helpful. God Bless.
TheArmyKev 2 years ago
haha Fort Jackson... lucky!! "relaxin' Jackson" thats the same time i leave for afghanistan, M6 is a good choice for advancement once you are out of the army. If you want to work in a hospital and not be in a infantry or field artillery unit out in the shit, go M6. If you want the Hoah! roll out of the wire with convoys load blackhawks with casualties on landing zones you setup... and be called DOC by your guys stay 68W and consider M6 later on in your Military career.

i want to become an army medic . what are allthe things that ill have to do to become a medic and to actually do the feild work. and what are classes like easy, hard , or in the middle plz let me know these things
jredinger12 2 years ago
First of all talk to a recruiter, take the placement test. If you have the option to pick 68W(Combat Medic) then ask about enlistment bonuses, Airborne etc...As far as schooling, you should be ok if you score high enough to choose it. If you feel you need to, take a basic anatomy and terminology class.
Laratron2k 2 years ago
what do u have to score on that asvab. thanks
schnsaint1 2 years ago
it's not very high, if you are worried just go buy the asvab study guid and do some of the practice tests. If you just graduated high school it should be no trouble, i was out for 4 years before I took it.

Laratron2k 2 years ago
Hows the training for this MOS is it hard?
TacticalDude2 2 years ago
it has about a 20-35% fail rate... it's not rediculous or anything, just study when you can because the tests account for 95% of the failures.
