god knows how chris came up with the tuning and chords for this song. for a start you de tune it so low that it fucks your guitar up once you tune it back to normal and forever goes out of tune and secondly the chording in my opinion makes this one of the most difficult songs to play...saying that amazing track :-)

@hedgey87 Yeah, I like alternate tunings as well. I find that after detuning to a lower slack type of tuning and then back to normal later wears the strings out faster. Usually, by that time it's time to change strings anyway. Keep an eye on the neck so as to not hurt it should you be in a lower tuning for a while. Also, you can tune one whole step down (D G C F A D) and capo on the 2nd fret temporarily. Plus, that allows for quite a few songs you can play along with as well. Hope that helps!!

The amazing part is how well, clearly and flawlessly chris plays his instrument while he is singing. I have to say, having tried, it is a DIFFICULT thing to do. He seems to not be concentrating on playing the instrument at all. That is something amazing right there.

That being said this song doesn't seem any harder then other songs he plays while singing. It's just a root D chords with E string bass variations I think...sounds like it to me..

Oopps ! I'm wrong there's video's how to play...it easy though you can alternate tune to make it really easy OR standard tuning using E shaped barre chords. You can see Chris using the E shaped barre with his thumb hitting the different bass notes on the E string.

I've heard some great songs on albums from other artists but when I check them live I have to cut the video short because it hurts to ear them sound so bad. I've never had to do that when it comes to Coldplay, as a matter of fact, I actually listen to the song 3 or 4 times live because it's just so different and fantastic.
