  • I was ten minutes into the prequel/remake when it dawned on me that it was going to suck.

I held out hope that it would at least offer some visceral entertainment... and it really didn't. The rattling tension and haunting atmosphere of John Carpenter was replaced by cheap jump scares, paper-thin characters and laughably unconvincing CGI. The checklist of assembled pieces to lead into the 1982 film was full of gaping plot holes.

I'll stick with this film. The world will never miss the prequel.

  • taking the chill by looking to a corridor... this is talent ;) and the one in the kitchen.....boy

  • WHY DOES NO ONE PUT UP THE ENDING?!

  • gotta love the way the 2nd norwegian killed just flops over lmao

  • ...very nice but it could of used a few more minutes...

  • when i watched this for the first time, i was wondering why the fuck he was trying to kill the dog. after the dog transformation scene, im pretty sure everyone knows why :(

  • Pleas tell me if I'm wrong, so the sniper at re beginnig knew the dog was really the thing?

  • @ogrok234

Yes. The two men in the helicopter were the only survivors of a Norwegian base that had encountered and almost destroyed The Thing, and were intent on killing the last of the organism.

  • people who don't think this is 1 of the best horror movie of all time, get a life please. this movie was way far more better than garbage like Resident Evil and Paranormal Activity. what was wrong with people nowdays? when you go to cinema to watch a horror movie, it doesn't scare you and it make you laugh when watching those fucking bullshit CGl and fucking bullshit storyline that doesn't make sense. i suppose moron will think that was a good movie?

  • love it! thanks!

  • If only they killed that damn dog and not the sniper!

  • :O /|\

    ULLAH!

  • Good job but you should have included the head spider, it's iconic.

  • MATT WANTS THE FLAMETHROWER!!! HE WANTS THE WA!!!

  • @GoldenCreekValleyRR

    It's Mac wants the flamethrower.

  • really good editing job. Thanks for putting this together.

  • i remember watching this as a 12 old kid and got scared shitless.. Scream and all that aside - this is a great horrormovie.. the others aren´t bad but this is better..

  • Sadly, it's hard to find such masterpiece here in Germany. :[

  • I hope they make the sequal with the same horroy sence as this movie and not just 3d all over the place...

  • omg so resident evil got their idea of the zombie dogs from this awesome.

  • I have to say, as a big fan of this movie, you did a good job for 7 minutes. The only thing i didnt like was you didnt have the final form of The thing but at the same time I guess it would ruin it for people who haven't seen the movie. Definitly worth watching if not the whole movie cause while you made a real good short vid of it, I'll always like the full movie more.

  • haha norwgian guy xD

if someone wants t know he sees: get out of there idiot!

  • Download over 300 video and audio editing tools from one SINGLE ftp for free. Just google for Aries-Films and see how many great video plugins, sound effects and programs out there

  • my only question is why do you bring a flame thrower to the south pole?

    badass movie by the way

  • ive never seen the thing b4. i must admit i like "the fart thing" better

  • It's the mark of a good movie when many years later you can still get a creepy feeling in you when watching it.

  • The snow is like that now in Britain! What a film and the music in the film is spooky as hell. But just think if it really did happen, we would be fucked! It is said that a alien craft crashed in the one of the poles many years ago, see The Orion Conspiracy

  • The snow is like that now in Britain! What a film and the music in the film is spooky as hell.

  • Comment removed

  • that was good I especially liked the voice over part with the 'nobody trusts anyone' part. but you didn't end with the end of the movie witch I think would have made it alot better because it sums everything up.

  • The first time I saw this movie I had to walk out of the theater. Back when it came out the special effects had just become so real it was just unreal. (ha)

Guess I was lucky enough watch the special effects industry grow to what is is today. I also walked out of the Texas chain saw movie in the threater... I'm I born an raised Texan so it really mess with me.

  • best of horror, a masterpiece, worth watch again..

  • I gotta tell you if trailers were this long this would be a perfect one! The only problem would be that it tells the end but this is no trailer anyway so....

Great editing! very well done! This is my favourite horror movie ever!

    I give 5 stars!

  • so it's ovbeeisly some super alian parasite, that's all it is to me... that's just how it seems to me, just think about it... cause some animal 'being' alien or any life form, can not be dead and the 'liquid' would not be alive, so... it would make more sense for an alien parasite... there is ovbeesily life out there... but if there is life that consumes life? can makes it's 'blood' alive? all whole? and turn into anything... then you know for sure, that is not some alien being of some kind.....

  • it would probably be coverd up by 100 years anyway... and that the parasite was able to get into that ship which had 'aliens', and the parasite took it over, and crashed on earth... (and again, if it was some intelegant alien, wouldn't it know not to crash? or not to crash on a polar ice cap? and if it didn't know, shouldn't it know? where there's life, there's a planet, where there is a planet, there is ice caps, and some being would know that) and if it is all whole, that's not a normal being

  • an alien?... ugh... you know, it would be better like this, i'm not saying the movie is bad by the way, i'm just saying... wouldn't it be a little better like this?

the thing is an alien parasite, (cause if it is a super intelegant alien able to make a helacopter pieces and turn them into a U F O... why would it need to consume people like some wild animal?) and that the space ship crashed a few hundred years ago, (hey if it crashed 100000 years ago, wouldn't it be completly covered up by snow?

  • Top 3 ... all time favorite movies. Might even be number 1.

  • best horror film ever. pure genius.

  • Let's see the scariest moment of this movie was that blood test and that guy turning into a monster. Made me have a shit storm while I was a child watching this.

  • I imagine that watching this as a child would scar one for life.

  • haha i bet.

i saw he thing when i was 18 back in 2002- . fucking great movie!!

i was alittle freaked out watching this movie.

  • 5:48 Scareist part

  • Aww how could you miss the blood-testing scene?

  • love the way the norweigian drops!

  • only2sec-

sound reasoning, 15 points for you,

however iv'e always had a firm belife that if it lives, then it must die. then again bactireia and other organisams sutch as that are not acctually consiterd living, yet even they succumb to too much achohal, this is something to truly ponder on... but in the end it dont matter cuse dis 'eres a movie

  • ok so cellular activity continues after being burned...any thoughts on this?, im meen fire pritty mutch scars tissue and distrups true regeneration. sure the movie says that fire stops it, but dosent kill it, if not what dose? massive amounts of radiation, acid, lava? any thoughts?

  • If the thing has a special kind of cells it can probably live under extrem hot conditions .... human cells will slowly die at a temperature over 42°C.... but there are cells who can live in extreme hot water near lava ..... but I wouldnt use radiation m8... the thing can change its lifeform very quickly, that means, that it has an amazing quick rate of mutatuions like a cancer cell.... if u would use radiation u probably would help the thing to do its transformation quicker !!!!

  • I think you can kill by completely burning it. Those partially burned victims still had active cells.

  • Beware of Ebolapox and Veepox!.....and superanthrax!!!

  • this was pretty damn good man, the only thing is you omitted some of the key moments but still a great job

  • wouldnt trust a siberian husky after watching this. next time one trys to jump up and lick me, im gonna kick it in its alien balls. shit-house.

  • @randypanhandy

It's not a husky, its a Alaskan Malamute.

  • Needs more "AH KILL YEWW!"

For as creepy as this flick was, that part made me shoot soda out of my nose. God bless you, Wilford Brimley!

  • do you all notice this movie doesn't have any women cast??? cool...

  • oppss... doesn't notice that... lol...

  • Apparently John Carpenters wife did the voice of the computer chess game

  • tthe best movie ever.. go on Jc...

  • the blood testing scene was really good

  • pretty good but u omitted the blood test scene and that was the best part

  • This video was very very well done, it's just a few scenes could've been in it longer some scenes should've been there shorter, I'm still going to favourite this video.

  • the thing looks like it is smiling :)

  • esta bueno

  • Fantastic!!! Great work, man.

  • Thanks! :)

  • ....it's weird and pissed off.

  • I don't understand the critics on here. Not only is it painfully apparent that you have spent way to much time watching your hollywood "resident evil" and "scream" movies to comprehend watching a classic, but are completely removed from the fact that this is some the finest moviemaking in its time and certainly holds up till today. I just can't begin to explain how the norwegians bad speaking and the helicopter flying so wrecks this movie for me...lol. Self pompous idiots.

    Btw - great editing.

  • Gracias! :)

  • well said.

  • @APEXX13

to be fair, Scream is a classic in its own right, but what this guy said otherwise.

  • Loved The Movie, Bu I Wished Clark Lived, He Was Cool.

  • Flying something is one thing; doing maneuvers is another. My father and grandfather were pilots, okay, so I have flown before. You, however, are someone with gross misconceptions about how flight works, m'kay? Again, returning the rifle issue; this isn't some action movie, these guys are fuckin scientists! Do you expect them to zoom around shooting with any accuracy a rifle intended for long range firing? I think you pull things out of your ass.

  • also, i am from norway and let me tell you, even back in the eighties, norwegians spoke pretty good english. the reason why that guy as screaming in (bad) norwegian to the american guy remains a mystery. no, wait, he was in shock and forgot how to say 'stay away, it's not a dog'. nonsesnse scenes keep piling up until the end and absolutely nothing makes sense.

  • I can understand your argument with the english, but this movie is sort of in the theme of lovecraft;horror so psychologically piercing it affects you.The man was clearly so distressed and seeing his friends and station killed/destroyed he was attempting to stop it despite how futile the attempt actually was in desperation. We see Blair act similarly in the movie;when he discovers what he is dealing with he disregards himself and the other over greater concern of the world.

  • Blair was wise;obviously a thing got to him.

  • can someone please explain for the record what the hell that 'thing' was doing? it just stands there mutating into weird shapes without any apparent purpose. it looks like it has no idea iself what it wants to do. it's so infuriating. besides, why are those norwegians flying over the dog as if they re in a plane and not a helicopter. has no one told them that a helicopter can fly very close to the ground and follow an animal without having to lift off, take a turn a mile away and THEN come back?

  • Helicopters are very hard to fly; how do you know their pilot was the camp pilot if he was killed and someone less experienced had to fly it?

  • well i don't know much about how difficult helicopters are to use for inexperienced flyers, but he was able to start it, manouvre it and land it, so the viewer is led to assume it's someone who knows how to use a helicopter. that is what matters.

  • Well frankly, if you have know idea how helicopters are difficult to use than you clearly should not depend on your own assumptions. Also, the man was trying to shoot at it with a rifle, have you ever used a rifle before? Kid, sit down and watch the movie.

  • as i said, the pilot was clearly able to fly the thing and nothing in the film leads us to believe he as an incompetent flyer. from the point of view of the audience, the behaviour of both men in the helicopter is absurd, and even though some explanation can be found if one spends the whole afternoon thinking about it, the confusion is obvious and that's bad film-making.

  • i.e. I wasn't spoonfed answers as if the movie assumed I was an idiot so it sucks.

  • It is attempting to propagate its extend its essence(DNA?RNA?) via assimilation.Neoplasms, anybody?

  • Movie still rocks...heard of a remake of this remark in the works.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • wykler shut the fuck up why shoot him in the arm hes trying to kill you you need to shoot to kill and besides its hard to aim when youre shooting out of a broken window from a distance with a pistol dumbass

  • why the fuck did he shot him in the eye? what a stupid!

he should shoot him in the arm, leg to incapacitate him or smthn....what a stupid.

  • incapacitate?

  • pretty sure accuracy is pretty difficult with the way he was shooting, so if he did aim to disable the guy, he may have just missed.

Of course, when someone is trying to kill you or your friends, are you really just going to "incapacitate" them, or try to save your friends?

  • idiot, the rule of thumb in handling those firearms is to shoot to kill, if the danger is percived as such that it must be done

  • Pretty good. You should have included the exchange between MacReady and Childs as they sit near the fiery ruins at the end of the film.

    "What do we do?"

"Why don't we just sit here for a while...see what happens."

The ending is what made the movie. (At least, to me that is.)

  • gooood

  • that was great. for now on whenever someone asks me to upload the whole movie i'm sending them here.

  • why did it have to be 7 min because at 4:22- 4:39 it dosn't make sense also 5:48- 6:02 dosn't make sense and were is the blood test

  • 7 minutes because it was an editing assignment.

  • wow

  • that was really really good!! kudos "something's wrong with blair...*smash*" XD

  • Thnaks! :)

  • I think you did a good job, except I wish you wouldn't have cut the spider-head and Palmer-thing-out/Windows chopper scenes.

  • I hadn't thought about this film in years, wow...Very fine editing job--and if someone wants more gore, there's always the nine-minute version!

  • Muchos gracias!

  • Well done, this was awesome! It's got all the keypoints in it, minus some of the gore! I'd give you an A* for that :D

  • Thanks Gharmos! :)
