  • By hand on the wheel; during this exercise the swing time, clapper speed and centration are checked. This process has been in place since the 1890's. The most popular postcard on this subject shows the tenor for York Minster being rung up by 2 men.

  • @mitch2400 More than ever! In an age of disposables we need things that connect us with times when we had less, but what we did have really mattered. Church bells were the radio of their day and informed us of joy and loss, triumph and disaster, and they did it for a much greater part of our history than our current electronic wizardry, impressive as it may be.

  • @JohnSelma thankyou for enlightening me, I must admit to not knowing very much about church bells or their workings. I'd not thought of it like that before.
