in the aussie leg viv owned the aussie bowlers. in the 8 suprtests played in australia he dominate. but you must not forget it was not full aussie bowling. thommo was still playing in official tests. grounds were mostly non test an were from tiny to small. some were footie stadiums. in the windie leg 5 supertests were played. here thommo made an entry grounds were regular and viv got owned. he averaged 33 with a high of 62. so even the wsc stats need some analysis. stats can be used...
It's a pity that we didn't have such good TV coverage in Sir Viv's era as we have today. The world has missed some of the greatest innings of this classy player.
watch his 135 against england at old trafford. in my view his best innings. watch his cut shots especially watch his judgement of length, he is already in position a split of a moment before the ball arrives, thats absolutely incredible. and that was in no way pre meditated.
in my view batsman like fast bowlers peak right in their firs two years watch lara's 277- his fist century or tendulkars first four years. his most superb batting days. or even lesser players. all peak in the first two yea
viv richards was a great batsman-what he thing about helmets is overblown, helmets do not make you bat better.it merely adds burden to you head. what it does is it protects you. and look at the pitches of his time. even the australian ptches are sub continental slow and dusty. bowlers are mediocre compared to today. and he never faced the best attack of his time.
viv was the greatest exponent of ODI the world has ever seen. not only he destroyed bowlers he killed them psychologically. i am an India and i am a fan of Tendulkar & Sehwag. But to be very candid, comparing Viv with anyone is like comparing the Sun with the candles.... hats off to the great Sir Issac Alexander Vivian Richards
viv was the man the most destructive player ive seen but from a techinical standpoint tendulkar is better richards just had the amazing ability to hit any ball for 4 or 6 a incredible eye and ability to pick up the lenght quicker than everyone else ive always said the 2 best players ive seen and if was a bowler would be scared off taking me to pieces are richards and gilchrist and maybe put sehwag up there but richards did it in harder batting conditions on on pitches that were not as flat
I am an indian and I say with pride that Viv was the greatest ever, period.i FEEL disgusted when some people say tendulkar is the greatest,no way,Sir Viv was HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE than any of them.He could hit at will,he could crush any bowling attack and he was a magnificent fielder,he could hAVE beaten mike tyson in a bout.Viv is GOD.
Problem was he played in the wrong era. If he had been born slightly later, who knows how many records he would hold in ODI, Test and Twenty20. A truly brilliant player, probably the best post-war batsman and second only to Bradman. Scary stuff.
In about 2000 a poll was taken among cricket legends for "Cricketer Of Our Time", the previous 25 years I think. Viv was head and shoulders above everyone else in the poll. Two and three in the rankings were Ian Botham and Shane Warne, who both voted for Viv. Says it all really!
My favourite cricket player. Thanks for the video. Could you please watch my video called VOTE FOR INGRAM. I have been nominated for a national award for community work and require more votes and am asking the cricket community to support me. Please subscribe as I have done with you.
@sunderlandgent Sobers and Greg Chappell make a strong statement, but I don't think modern day players belong in the same league as Viv. Sobers, however, could just be a notch or two above Viv!
Greatest batsman were those who played during this era. No helmets, inferior bats, slower outfields, less body protection, dangerous bowlers, bowler friendly tracks.
But that also not viv s fault that he didnot play against weak bolwers on flat pitches and I am not saying that Sehwag is not destructive but not great like Richards
Sehwag score most of his runs in subcontinent though he has scored runs in Australia but against an attack which lacked Glenn Mcgrath Shane Warne Bret lee And he has struggled against seamers look his record against Mathew Hoggard Steve harmison asif when they were in their top form He scored a century in West Indies when pitch was flat and struggled after wards when pitch was not flat He cant be compared with viv
@007dalal ..sehwag can only play against teams that is given to him..if mcgrath is not playing a test match, is that his mistake?...and to also correct you, he has scored against brett lee..his 190 odd runs against aus in melbourne had lee...oh yes he hasnt played against mcgrath?? he has double century in chennai against mcgrath? if he came into the reckoning after these greats, thats not his mistake...
Bret lee was not at his top form in that sereis and his support bowlers were bracken Brad williams So it was nt the best bowlin g line up australia bowled in that maych Moreover it also lacked Jason Gilesspie
@007dalal ...so next time when sehwag plays we will invite mcgrath, gillespie and warne and also send them a post and advise them to be in good form....sehwag is even more destructive than viv.....this is t20 era..if pitches are flat, its not his fault..he has batted in every freakin place and made a century..and that too with a gr8 strike rate..richards is different..he is great too...and no where have i said that sehwag is better than viv..dont take the wrong meaning...
sehwag is the modern day viv..look at that first shot against the spinner....he plays across the line just like viv in the second one.... i dont care wat pieterson does,,look at sehwags average in aus and against aus, england, sa.... he has murdered all bowling..SEHWAG= NEW KING...he has got a 50 + avg at a an awesum strike rate for test cricket....amazing how he is not as successful in one dayers..
@signeduplate ..195 in melbourne....that 100 in the monkey gate series...100 against southafrica in sa.....when sehwag retires, u will call him a legend..and yeah he has murdered akthar...
@signeduplate ..and u gota understand that he faces the new ball.....unlike the legends u just mentioned..if u know cricket, u know wat new ball does..dont u?
U know what I thought the same thing when I saw this clip..........he would have been an unstoppable road roller with the modern bats.........what brutality....absolutely merciless!!!!
Viv was/is/will remain the best ever. Lilly,Thomson,Hadlee and others were scared to bowl to him.He was far better than DON BRADMAN WHO HAD NEVER FACED A GOOD QUALITY FAST BOWLER in his career.THE only bowler BRADMAN faced was LARWOOD and he was disqualified as he gave some trouble to that prick.
@MooingChoir I doubt he would use modern day bats. The helmet was available when he was playing but he did not wear it. He likes to go old school and is still boss like that.
as a kid i never liked viv for a fact that he will distroy our bowling line up (india). NOW, i love this man for a fact he was ruthless, fearless and he carried a certain aura what muhammad ali use to carry I AM THE KING OF WORLD COME AND GET ME IF U CAN. i love viv.
Dad would call me in off the street when Viv came in to bat .When he got out I would go off and play with my friends again. AWSOME ' Sir Vivian Issac Richards'
Best EVER against pace, most devastating EVER, most entertaining EVER, most feared EVER, most innovative EVER, most majestic EVER, overall second greatest ever after Don Bradman. KING Isaac Vivian ALEXANDER Richards THE GREAT.
