The atrocities of the Nazi Regime are so vast, so all encompassing, it is difficult 65 years later to absorb. Retribution at this level can only be called barbarism not war. RIP 50, RIP.

I was thinking at the start, 'why do it in March?!' and so it played out just as it seemed to me it would. With good weather, you can move overland, foraging for wild food, sleeping under the stars without a shelter or fire, etc. Plus, by that time of the year in wartime Germany, all the fresh food would've been gone and people would be living on nothing but turnips, beets and potatoes... even if you could steal food! They should've known better and planned better.
