The synthesis possibilities of this thing are absolutely immense if you know what you're doing. Seriously... And I actually enjoy playing the keyboard. They are mini keys, but there's something about the way they're designed that just makes them morish. I literally have to prize myself away from it when I need sunlight.
@xMisheardzx i would definately get the xl. its $100 more and its definately worth it. its much easier to use and you can put all the sounds from the original on it if you like those ones more. its not permanent tho, you can always reset the factory settings....anyway, i would definately get the xl. the xl is $500 and the original is $400 but just the fact that the keys are bigger is almost worth that, not to mention the improved vocorder, and all the extra ways to mess with the sounds
IS IT TRUE THAT I CAN GET ALL of the original microkorg's sounds with the download of Sound Editor ONTO A NEWER MICROKORG XL?
In other words...if I buy the xl....and I download the editor...WILL i BE ABLE TO, ALSO, GET ALL OF THE SOUNDS / SYNTH PATCHES OF THE ORIGINAL ONTO MY NEWER MICROKORG XL?
I am trying to decide between the two.
so if it is the case that by...just buying the xl...i can get both the sounds of the newer and the older...than i will just buy the newer xl
I'm thinking of buying one of these for the band i'm in. It's a rock band. So i guess the sound i want is a bit dark. Pink Floyd/ Radiohead or any kraut rock band i guess.
Would a Microkorg be any good? What i have heard from it so far tends to be for just dance/hip hop music.
@scaryfishdude I haven't had the privilege of using the XL version but I own the microKORG and I listen to a lot of Brian Eno etc which I try to bring into what i'm making and it sounds awesome. Plus I think the microKORG just looks better and is easily to carry around if you're planning on gigging etc.
OMG i really don't know this kinda stuff i'm a guitar player who uses MIDI controllers and softsynths... But... Who the fuck is wanting an analog synth? I really don't get it... But... Someone explain plz... Why would you prefer an older "non midi" version synth... I know the Moogs... But i don't know why they are so famous... Explain!!!
There are modern-day analog synths that are manufactured today. Perhaps you should look at the new Mopho Analog Synth by Dave Smith Instruments. It is a real analog synthesizer, but it has no keys. That's okay since you said that you use MIDI controllers. Most MIDI Controllers will work with the Mopho. The Mopho is fully programmable and tweakable from its interface, but you may also use the included software. You can get great Bass, Leads, and other good sounds out of the Mopho. Check it out.
You could even use the Mopho without an external keyboard or controller due to the Push It Button which allows you to trigger a sequence and tweak it the way you want to.
I think sequences aren't playing music... I think when you're making music (for a band) you should think of "Who's gonna play which line and never overdub things you won't play live"
It's just my opinion... To play music you gotta use an instrument... DJ aren't really "Playing"... The PC is doing it... Musicians maybe... But not players...
Yeah... Like i said i'm a guitar player... 5 years now... I'm now really knowing what tone is... In keyboards is a lot different... So... I'm learning one step at a time...
Yeah but could do that with a good soft synth... I know that in 1930 it was the fucking bomb... But now is not that impressive... I'm sorry i've never been infront of one of those things... Sound live is different...
u can use many soft synth to achieve good Analog sounds but definetly takes a lot of work layering an Eqing the sound to make it cut tru the mix. for some reasons many Producers use real synths because is more versatile + doesn't take much of ur CPU.:D
Dude... I have a question... I'm a guitar player and i ordered a Line 6 POD Studio KB 37 and (with a good laptop) i wanna play guitar trough this thing live... How can i control de soft synth sound and my guitar tone with this device? Wich footswicht can work? and... can i do it trough a control surface or something similar like a Korg Nano control???
you need to record the audio output (of the microkorg) into a program like acid/audacity/ adobe audition, or reason record (which im not sure is avail. yet) once you've recorded the audio file you need to convert it to a dr. rex file using recycle, then you'll be able to call up that file with the dr. rex loop player, hope this helps. just ask if you dont understand anything
It has a USB port, so any USB cable that hooks into your printer (not the kind that hooks into your digital camera), will turn it into a sweet MIDI keyboard. And then you're all set.
Lol.. There is a couple of vids with a different guy saying exactly the same stuff xD And my favorite thing is that you can put in 6 batteries blabla.. (They only say the sentence a bit different, but it's really a big coincidence that they share the same oppinion xD. No. Standard Salesman talk ftw.)
What's better, the Microkorg or the XL? What is the maindifference between them? The XL looks easier to use, but the Microkorg looks like you can make up more of your own stuff. Someone please explain cause I really wanna get one.
Does the R3 have the "Formant Hold" function like the two Microkorgs do? I can't find that out anywhere! Anyone know? And also does the R3 have the thing where you can make the voice sound like a girl?
Nice synth on the whole but shite for the price asked.
Its new implimentation of the Arpeggiator Step within the LCD is frankly rubbish, compared how effective, versatile and quick the Arp Stepper works within the original MicroKorg or R3.
I would probably buy one if it were £100 less than the cost of an original Micro. The R3 is not that much more expensive and gives you basically the best of what either of the MicroKorgs can do and so much more (ie; formant/efx motion recording, etc).
Same here, I want to make Jungle, acid house, Drum and bass, house. what should I buy as a line up? does it have loops and a drum machine? should I just by the original micro korg?
I'd rather have had the mK sound than the one of the R3. the mK is just so full of "flaws" that makes it so darn cool. Just needs a little fattening - add subosc, and you're there. Navigation simplified - bonus. Huge drawback - looks only half as cool as the original.

about sound board - I've read in a few places that it is not quite the same as the ms2000. That the sound engine is dirtier and more like an r3.

that's what a sampler is- an instrument that stores and mixes sound files.
this is a synth, so it makes sound.

I don't think you can. Reason doesn't support any plugins or recording so i don't think you are able to use the sounds on the Microkorg XL in Reason.
