I remember the heyday of this band, when they played with extreme energy, invention and melody. That was Propaganda, a premium album. But now they flop about like carp on the beach, no melody, no invention, some energy. I most regret that this band did not live up to their potential. Maybe they will work harder and be great again. If you want to see the cutting edge of music composition in the pop vein pushed to the limit, listen to Steve Kusaba "The Centrifugal Satz Clock" when it comes out!!

"But now they flop about like carp on the beach, no melody, no invention, some energy."
Utter bullshit. They are about 60 years old you know? I'd like to see you dancing around with the same energy you had when you were 25-30 when you reach 60 (and if you really do remember Sparks "heyday" then that really isn't that far off is it?)
Don't get me wrong, I like Sparks better than most of their fans, I just know they were SPECIAL
during Propaganda. They were MUCH better than your usual radio stuff. Musically, not their damn dancing was what put them on the top of the heap. I hope they challenge themselves just one last time before they die.
Majestic...yes ...intriguing and involving as ever....far too clever and imaginative for a lot of people (including myself !)...but thank God for that !!!
You either get it or you don't. Watch their video of "this town ain't big enough for the both of us" from 1974. Brilliant, Ron Mael (who writes most of their music / lyrics is a genius and his brother Russel (the singer) has an exceptional voice, don't expect everyone to like their music. I'm sure Pop Idol and Factor contestants are more up Teheifi and his types street. LOL
I can see what you mean about the piss take of the boy bands, prolly makes it funnier. Loads have said they were great at the forum, would have loved to have seen that. I did see them in Anaheim and Sparks Rox
If you like this song, listen to sparks doing "my way" but i must warn you it is the best song ever written and you will then be hooked on them,i have been an addict since the 70s.You have been warned.
the keyboard is a Yamaha MOTIF ES8 Music Synthesizer and as what i can only see as a piss take he has his name, Ronald on it. Good song, a bit catchy too just not sure about the dance routine
It's just his gimic. At live gigs and in quite a few videos he's always straight faced, and barely cracks a smile. He also plays the keyboard for much longer in other songs. This particular song though had him do a few actions as well, as the act required it.
No, its actually a Yamaha keyboard... but just funny having 'ronald' written on the keyboard. It confused me because I thought it said Roland, and I couldn't understand why he'd cover up the Yamaha logo to have roland, but now I see it says Ronald, its genius! haha
this is the dogs!!!! I have adored Sparks since I was 9. I love the whole song, but especially the piano sections, reminds me of Serge Gainsbourg's work
I think Muse also nicked this song for their hit "Uprising" the following year. ;-)

Then the Sparks came on. I think I spent a good ten minutes just rewinding and replaying them.

Love the way the keyboard makers name 'Roland' is rearranged to spell Ron's christian name ('Ronald').
