The Bird was truly one of a kind. Talented, colorful, a bit bizarre, but one of the most down to earth athletes ever, even after he reached stardom. Still acted like the guy next door. Shame his carrer was shortened by injuries. RIP Bird
I was a baseball crazy 10 year old when the Bird came along. He was one of the first players that I clearly remembered.
He was a genuine article, not the PR shills which pros have become. He did what he did because it was who he was, not a marketing gimmic which is what sports have become. Remember him well because we will not see the likes of him again. Goodby Mark, and I hope the Bird has his wing back....
I also think it kind of sucks that on the day The Tigers chose to honor Mark's memory,a true Tiger Legend, the day was devoted to the memory of someone else, not even a Tiger.

Come on Detroit. Do right by The Bird. The sweet kid who brought hope to that miserable town for one glorious year in 1976.
Baseball we'll miss you, Now your with God, showing off that smile! You were a spirited presence, and a youthful grace, embraced by baseball and the entire sportsworld when we needed you... Your enthusiasm and passion for the game is what made you different form the past and present sports athletes..something they should see from the example you set.. you made baseball fun again. We all remember what you brought to our living rooms that spring of 1976, when you struck out Reggie.. R.I.P.

I think The Tigers should retire
Mark's #20.
I also think it kind of sucks that on the day The Tigers chose to honor Mark's memory,a true Tiger Legend, the day was devoted to the memory of someone else, not even a Tiger.
