  • Flight in 80's is just amazing even when you're sitting on ECONOMY. i remember that day when i was a kid, attendant give me a candy and soda before flight, she even give me a colorful storybook to read on flight, the food is tasty, the crew always smiling and helpful.

nowadays, air travel is terrible, delays, stupid security check, and attendant acts like a whore and didn't think their passenger as "Human beings", airline food ? TERRIBLE !

  • WHOA!! That dude was smoking ON the plane!! :O you dont see that anymore..

  • excelente, esta compañia era muy muy grande

  • Pan Am was so great!!!

Now Delta they have good service but IT'S A CRAP FOR THE FOOD!

  • the flight attendant smiles at the camera! that's so sweet! so this shows a smiley happy person.... but there are videos online where some bitches scream and try to grab cameras from hands :)) as if it is forbidden to video :))

  • @alexvkk Time has changed....today it is forbidden e.g. In united airlines .... Nothing is like it was, not even the service....

  • @wkaemena A great time to fly. My first ever flight was from LHR - TPA in 83!

These days all we hear is about passengers being restrained or terror.... so sad.

  • great video minus the music...the Music kills it!!

  • @grooveridersla It is argentine music and therefore appropriate for the destination. ., without music a movie would be very dull.

  • first class nowadays is like Rolls Royce-meets-Star Trek compared to that.

  • !PAN AM ,EASTERN AIRLINES AND TWA THE BEST AIRLINES EVER!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Who ever went on Korean Air? :'D They're are pretty good, first class♥

  • What exactly happened to them that made them go bust? was it do with the Lockerbie bombing?

  • We all love Pan Am. I hear it will fly again from Texas this year in 2011. I will definitely fly with them again. I came to this country when I was small with my grandmom who is now 101. My mother cried when we heard that Pan Am went out of business. It was betrayed by the government the way some veterans are after they come back from a war. Why did the government not help Pan Am the way they helped General Motors and Chrysler when they declared bankruptcy? Thanks to the producer of this video

  • My God how times have changed. If you ask a flight attendant for a blanket now ,you might be wrestled down and handcuffed. The FBI will be waiting to arrest you when you land.

  • This is what First Class should be like (with a personal tv) not all these new suites...

  • @thomasboss01 completely DISagree

  • Aww I was just about to be born when you were on this flight! I love Pan Am, wish they were still around!! Looking for more videos of what it was like to fly Pan Am or TWA in the 70s & 80s, I'll check out your channel!

  • Cool video - give yourself the big pat on the back for creating this. Airlines of today treat passengers like crap - unless your like John Travolta that has his own plane of course.

  • @wkaemena Actually, Pan Am only operated Boeing 747-200s for cargo. Both planes were Boeing 747-100s. Some of them were refitted with more windows (a convert to upstairs Clipper Class or just better views in the lounge), so they look like 200s. The ones with 3 windows are non-refitted and orginal 100s. You just have to love the drone of the engines from 0:39 to 0:43!

  • Wow! Look at how happy the f/a's were. Now they just frown. And those sidewalls!

  • @scaremengaviation Not to mention you'd probably be tasered and handcuffed if you tried to videotape them during the safety demo these days.

  • That is the way to travel!

  • 1:10 Lol the Afro xD

  • WTF? SMOKING.....where was that smoke suppose to go TO? From buses to trains and Jets..THESE SLEAZY officials allowed smoking...POOR FLIGHT ATTENDANTS who had to breath that bullshit for years...WHEN will Man learn...SMOKING KILLS....and all that nasty ass smoke everywhere...IT gets in ur hair, clothes, skin..SECOND HAND SMOKE KILLS!!!! NASTY SMOKERS...ARE THE ROOT TO ALL EVIL....U BLOW AND SUCK THE HARDEST!!!

  • @UFOSPACE1999 oh stop ranting.

  • I liked the way the f.a. showed the safety demo by hanging the safety belt. So smily and kind. really nice!

I had the chance to fly PAN AM on one of their last flights to Brazil. Inflight service was very nice and crew very receptive.

  • 747SP

  • @jackieyue a 747-100 and a 747-200

  • @jackieyue i like SP's theyre special. Short, light & powerful.

  • most of the old farts at 2:17 are dead now scary....

  • Wonderful video, thank you so much for posting this. The flight attendent doing the safety demo at the beginning seems really nice. Pan Am we miss you!

  • Thanks sooo much for this rich presentation of true airline flying....I have been in the airline industry for 28yrs....started with British Caledonian....you have an excellent production...Thanks again

  • OMG is that coach class back there? Nowadays no airline would DARE to put nine-abreast seating in a 747. Every airline puts 10-abreast nowadays. I just missed the best age of aviation

  • LOL at the level of "comfort" you paid through the nose for back then. The seats go as far back then in 1st class as economy do now.

  • I still remember Pan Am and TWA were always most in demand from London to various points in USA.....British Airways was least in demand due to stuck up attitude of flight attendants.

Went by Pan Am a few times first class LHR-JFK and NY-LA still remember going on Pan Am helicopter to JFK to from Manhattan via heliport by Hudson River...Was nice also to smoke on plane after dinner etc,

  • Thank you for posting this! I flew for Pan Am in the early 80s and, as the old ads used to say, "You can't beat the experience -- Pan Am!" It was a life-changing experience for me: I saw the world, had my mind opened up, made new friends, and learned new languages. Gone but not forgotten.

  • sweet smoking in first class

  • haha! those were the days when there was no need for the 'please ensure that all electronic devices are switched of blah blah'...and none of the crabby scowels youd'd get nowdays from flight attendants for wanting to film them...interesting because people back then had personal video recorders and walkmans which would have supposedly interfered with navigational equipment also....

  • que lindo que era cuando no estaba toda la locura del terrorismo, ahora no te dejan filmar, y la azafata le encantaba posar para la camara.

    magnifico

  • Willy, thank you so much for your footage.

  • And this was only a short flight of 2:30h!!!

  • @wkaemena Yes, but the route was New York - Rio - Buenos Aires more than 11 flight hours

  • Did you see that? Metal cutlery!?! Ah, those were the days!!

  • I quite like this bit of footage for several reasons.

The Volkswagen Van briefly being safely driven at 20 miles an hour BACKWARDS is only possible in Latin America, and VIDEO CAMERAS (Remember them?) are clearly still a bit of a novelty for some people rather than an annoyance that is controlled by law.

Another interesting thing is the proven existence of old Americans who are not overweight. This is a different age.

  • A bygone era of service, I never flew on Pan Am. I was born after it closed, but I wish it was still around....

  • Thank you! from an ex Pan Am employee from LHR

  • Great Video. It has been 21 years. i couldn't stop thinking what are those passengers doing right now. some are dead already. some have grandchildren maybe... also, it was nice to see one of the pax was smoking a cigarette inside the cabin :) funny lol

  • I miss it so! I got to fly for TWA and we always had such respect for our PAA counterparts, So glad fto have the memories. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful film!

  • Did you enjoy pan am? what does it compare to now?

  • i think virgin atlantic could come close to being better than pan am although pan am was the best back in the day virgin atlantic is the best these days

  • I miss PanAm! TWA and PanAm were the airlines that every other airline "USED" to want to be like...but never will be...

  • Now that was a world class airline! My first flight was on a Pan Am B727.True world class service. I wish it was back..

  • Thanks for the memories!

    You Can't Beat the Experience.

I worked there the last 2 years. The airline industry has gone straight to hell ever since.

  • What a great video! Thank you for sharing!

  • What was the name of the PA 747 you were on?

  • Witch of the wave

  • Great post! Thanks. you had your eye on those desserts didn't you?

  • I'm glad that wasn't Clipper 'Maiden of the Seas'

    RIP Pan Am

    Great Airline

  • pan am used to be such a great airline, my dad used them for buisness quite alot flying to new york in the 80's, i flew them a few times, bot economy and once there clipper class, was fantastic

  • Whats the name of that song?

  • Beautiful video and great music- salute to a classy and once great airline!

  • Great footage!!I really admire this airline, while I should be a KLM man here in the Netherlands...LOL,yet I for some reason try and find what I can on Pan Am!I was wondering, what was the tailnumber of the plane in the old colors at 0:48??Thanks.

  • .......this is so amazing.

    Why...one may wonder?

    It is a era...

    It is history...

    It was our life...

    and, for most--our love.

    blessings,

    suziestew

    PAN AMERICAN JFK BASE 1989-1991

  • Correct me if I am wrong Willy, please - I have posted this before - but you can see the double first class in this - not business as you once said. I checked my old timetable and this is confirmed too.

The old plane was the other scheme that PA considered, but lost out to the billboard scheme. The only tried it on two planes (1 and 1/2 actually). The nose of the plane was white too. Of the 48 or so 747's PA had (in 1991), I flew on about 35 plus. I checked them off as a kid.

  • Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! I always wondered what it was like to fly on a PA 747!

  • the funny thing is that the other PanAm 747 (Mia-GIG-GRU) which standing next to my flight JFK-GIG-EZE is only half painted with the new scheme with the large PanAm letters.

  • - about that white nose - It was interesting because it had the blue stripe all the way to the cone - so it looked odd.

    - go to 2.04 in this video and that was the 2nd half of first class.

    - One last request - I would be astonished if you had in flight footage of the 747SP with the kitchen on the side. - Any chance?

    - I wonder if anyone out there has PA footage landing at Kai Tak in Hong Kong???

Once again - thanks soooo much.

  • Yes you are right I have an old seating guide (7/90) here and what is showing in my video at 2:04 is indeed the second First Class Cabin behind the stairwell. This configuration was called "South America Configuration"
