I'm just an unselfish person genuinely trying to help and speaking on the current state of our world. If I'm not part of the solution, I'm part of the problem. This is as real as it gets and if you happen to disagree, that is completely fine. We all have our own brains and can form our own ideas and express them freely :] If you do agree feel free to share/spread. It has nothing to do with me-no ulterior motives, rather just a message, a reminder :]
to everyone dissing the singer. they rehearsed it before the show, so lupe prolly told her to do that. otherwise she would know not to. so please stfu
Dude they fuckin nailed this shit but the woman backup singer needs to relax its like shes giving birth up there.CHILLAX WOMAN YOUR MURDERING THE SONG!
look at the men playing the guitars the are having a good time man i wish i could have been there i have not seen lupe in concert yet but you can bet that i am going to spend my last to see him oh and i like sarah green singing in the backgroud it sounds great :)
In the final verse he mentions a "femme fatale" which is a woman who lures u in with her beauty and then destroys you. This is what the "streets" are, or the disease. It refers to the biblica story where jesus asks god to show him the world, and he does so in the form of a woman. From a distance she is beautiful, with nice clothes, etc. As Jesus nears, she turns into a skeleton, showing the worlds true side. There is no cure, once pulled into the streets.
Lupe is a clever dude, i don't think it's about a disease just because it uses surface level illness vocabulary.
i guess the best evidence in the song would be this, "the scientist say it only affects the mind." Pretty bogus scientist if he's saying AIDs, or any disease really, only affects the mind.
Yeah, yeah, AIDs is definitely a topic, I just don't think it's THE only topic of the song. I think he's using AIDs as sort of a metaphor or symbol for a much deeper problem.
Well if he could get more exposure there would probably be more guys like him. If Lupe Fiasco could influence people in the same way Lil Wayne and Akon and Chris Brown do,(and he is getting up there) imagine what society would be like. I really hope Lupe Fiasco can be as common a name as 'Flo Rida' and 'T-Pain' some day.
This is my favorite hip hop song, it's so deep and talks about so much shit. Disease, paranoia, chaos, anarchy, socio-economic divides, false media, government control and intimidation, false idols/religion, etc. I love how it touches on all the various ways society can be divided because of perceived "differences" and how we're sort of on the edge of complete chaos at all times and all it would take is one little nudge to push us over. Love the energy he brought to this performance, well done.
forget "favorite hip-ho song," this is one of my favorite songs, period. Lupe talks about more in this one song than most American musical artists do in their entire careers.
the songs about an aids-like disease and the second half of the song is about the government controlling the minds of its people through fear and properganda and such.. monster of a song!
its a combination of aids and government controlling. i personally think the song is ridiculous. in the sense that i thought rappers are supposed to be muscle bound meat heads these days :p i think if you mixed lupe's lyrics with cudi's melody you would have the perfect rapper!!
IMO Lupe is the best (factoring in overall talent. Lyricism, Flow, Creativity, Story Tellin, etc). This is my favorite song hy him, one of the best PURE Hip-Hop songs. "My Femme Fatale, My Darling Fraudulent Angel/ Once Caught Her Changing The Batteries In Her Halo"... Gives Me Fuckn Chills!
This song is Basically about Aids and the streets and how people are living these days. Like talking about the lifestyle is getting worse. The poor say the rich have the cure and the rich say the poor are the source means the rich can afford a cure. and the rich are out of the bad lifestyle. And the rich say the poor are the source which means cuz they're poor the rich say that it's the poor people who are dirty and started ruining the world
If you know Lupe...u know everything isn't what it seems..the song isn't about "AIDS" its about "disease of a thought " like Harduud14 said. Get your history game up...
I really like this performance and I really like Sarah's voice but I agree with most people, she could have toned it down a bit. Santos sang only in turn but she tried to adlib out of control, though I suppose Lupe wanted her to do that. It didn't sound bad but she stuck out too much IMO.
The performance was great but Sarah sort of killed the tone Lupe probably was trying to present with that song. It wasn't that bad though, she sounded nice.
Skyscrapers emit the images(locally) we see on our tv.(they used to give us all we seen)skyscapers are modern day "shrines" for the rich and wealthy as pyramids and temples were centuries ago. thats what lupe was talking about in the second verse

he thinks he has an angel, but then he catches her changing the batteries in her halo.
I think it's about the feeling of confusion and purposelessness many of us have in this generation
sorry for long post, this is among my top 5 favorite songs ever with music+lyrics considered

Look at the second verse. It's all about being fed answers by someone who wants to control masses.
and this line:
"my femme fatale my darling fraudulent angel
once caught her changing the batteries in her halo
receipt for her wings and everything that she paid for
and the address to the factory where they made those"

Personally, im not entirely sure, but i think it has something to do with a post-modern inability to find answers or meaning in life:
"the poor say the rich have the cure
the rich say the poor are the source
revolutionaries say it's physiological war
invented by the press, just to have something to report
some say the first case came from a maternity ward
some say a morgue, some say the skies, some say the floors
whores say the nuns, nuns say the whores

the disease IS a topic in this song...but there are more...
but its pretty sure AIDS is one of them...i quote what Lupe said in the interview with Tavis Smiley:
"Aids is one of her physical attributes."
Speaking about the streets of course...if its not on this song ..on which song of the cool?

So, basically it is a disease spread through belief - A "disease of thought" (Song is based of the novel 1984)
haruud14 2 years ago 2
Lupe was once asked and he said that the song is about FASLEHOOD.
The songs is connected to number of other things:
1. AIDS - Compares the spread of ignorance/falsehood/lies/untruths to the AIDS epidemic.(1st verse starts with DISEASE - The problem)
2. Control of the masses - The use media/government/policy to spread this falsehood. (2nd verse starts with BELIEF - How the problem comes about)
