  • "My femme fatale my darling fraudulent angel

Once caught her changing the batteries in her halo

Receipt for her wings and everything that she paid for

And the address to the factory where they made those"

-- if that's not poetry, I don't know what is

    Greetings from Belgium

  • sarah green voice is amazing simple amazing

  • In the final verse he mentions a "femme fatale" which is a woman who lures u in with her beauty and then destroys you. This is what the "streets" are, or the disease. It refers to the biblica story where jesus asks god to show him the world, and he does so in the form of a woman. From a distance she is beautiful, with nice clothes, etc. As Jesus nears, she turns into a skeleton, showing the worlds true side. There is no cure, once pulled into the streets.

  • top tier, too smart for rap

  • siiiick i love lupeee

  • that bitch needs to shut up and let the other guy sing a bit more

  • 4:

he thinks he has an angel, but then he catches her changing the batteries in her halo.

I think it's about the feeling of confusion and purposelessness many of us have in this generation

sorry for long post, this is among my top 5 favorite songs ever with music+lyrics considered

  • @Gyozomroka its a metaphor. its a devil dressed up as an angel to deceive people.

  • 3:

and everybody is sure" (ie. because everyone's opinion conflicts, it's impossible to know the truth)

Look at the second verse. It's all about being fed answers by someone who wants to control masses.

    and this line:

"my femme fatale my darling fraudulent angel

once caught her changing the batteries in her halo

receipt for her wings and everything that she paid for

and the address to the factory where they made those"

  • 2:

Personally, im not entirely sure, but i think it has something to do with a post-modern inability to find answers or meaning in life:

"the poor say the rich have the cure

the rich say the poor are the source

    revolutionaries say it's physiological war

invented by the press, just to have something to report

some say the first case came from a maternity ward

some say a morgue, some say the skies, some say the floors

whores say the nuns, nuns say the whores

  • 1:

Lupe is a clever dude, i don't think it's about a disease just because it uses surface level illness vocabulary.

i guess the best evidence in the song would be this, "the scientist say it only affects the mind." Pretty bogus scientist if he's saying AIDs, or any disease really, only affects the mind.

  • the disease IS a topic in this song...but there are more...

but its pretty sure AIDS is one of them...i quote what Lupe said in the interview with Tavis Smiley:

"Aids is one of her physical attributes."

Speaking about the streets of course...if its not on this song ..on which song of the cool?

  • Yeah, yeah, AIDs is definitely a topic, I just don't think it's THE only topic of the song. I think he's using AIDs as sort of a metaphor or symbol for a much deeper problem.

  • 1.) The Coolest

    2.)Kick Push

    3.)SuperStar

    4.)Streets are on Fire

    5.)Go Baby

my favorite Lupe Songs!!!!!He's my favorite artist!!!! He's a dam Genius!!!!

  • matt likes black women.

  • lol, what makes you say that?

  • y u lold? think u already know..

  • this song is so fricking awesome

  • Can someone tell me how to get his concert schedule? I can't seem to find it on his website.

  • @LAX324 he has not been on tour for the past 14 months as i remember i went to his concert in Providence RI a while back... if this helps

  • Someone please tell me he is single! LOL. This man is a genius and he respects women especially black women. Why can't rappers be like him?

  • Well if he could get more exposure there would probably be more guys like him. If Lupe Fiasco could influence people in the same way Lil Wayne and Akon and Chris Brown do,(and he is getting up there) imagine what society would be like. I really hope Lupe Fiasco can be as common a name as 'Flo Rida' and 'T-Pain' some day.

  • nah he makes people think too much and people today find it hard to think and like to be spoonfed bullshit.

  • Best rapper and mentor ever

Listening to him is the only way to keep your cool

    I know and i'm 13

  • The Song Is Also Talking About The Actual Character "The Streets" From The The Michael (My Cool) Young History Story

  • she pisses me off how she is screaming all the time...cant hear matthew

  • Best concert eveeeeeeeeeeer.. I was at this concert as well as his afterparty at the bungalooow club!! AWESOME

  • kick ass song!

  • This is my favorite hip hop song, it's so deep and talks about so much shit. Disease, paranoia, chaos, anarchy, socio-economic divides, false media, government control and intimidation, false idols/religion, etc. I love how it touches on all the various ways society can be divided because of perceived "differences" and how we're sort of on the edge of complete chaos at all times and all it would take is one little nudge to push us over. Love the energy he brought to this performance, well done.

  • forget "favorite hip-ho song," this is one of my favorite songs, period. Lupe talks about more in this one song than most American musical artists do in their entire careers.

  • The music he chooses to use for this song works so well to build that atmosphere as well

  • False-hood... I've been trying to figure out for almost 2 years what this song is about... You did it for me, thanks LOL

  • the songs about an aids-like disease and the second half of the song is about the government controlling the minds of its people through fear and properganda and such.. monster of a song!

  • for all you clueless muh-fuckas he talkin about aids and unpretected sex

  • so thats why he says theres no protection... hes not talking about aids.

  • well some people dont have the protection..obviously

  • Lupe = my favorite rapper

Streets on Fire = one of my favorite songs

This live performance = orgasmic... okay, not that far, but shit, this was good

  • Damnnnn...sumbody tell dat lady singin dat she is a background singer...lol

  • agreeed, i'm upset though that lupe screwed up the first tonight to start the song.

  • honestly, it pisses me off so much that she is singing in this song. its so annoying.

  • why? i thought her singing really suited the song

  • thats sarah green

  • @YungViper she's sung the hook in hip hop saved my life. she's fine where she is

  • @YungViper I know right!

  • @YungViper lmao

  • @YungViper lmao i think thats sarah green

  • @YungViper She made that shit so HOT! Made a classic even better

  • what are you talking about????

  • dude lupe is ill yo! dang that foo can rap

  • IMO Lupe is the best (factoring in overall talent. Lyricism, Flow, Creativity, Story Tellin, etc). This is my favorite song hy him, one of the best PURE Hip-Hop songs. "My Femme Fatale, My Darling Fraudulent Angel/ Once Caught Her Changing The Batteries In Her Halo"... Gives Me Fuckn Chills!

  • Lupe Fiasco is a really good concert performer damn what isnt he not good at?

  • toniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite

  • So, basically it is a disease spread through belief - A "disease of thought" (Song is based of the novel 1984)

  • Lupe was once asked and he said that the song is about FASLEHOOD.

The songs is connected to number of other things:

    1. AIDS - Compares the spread of ignorance/falsehood/lies/untruths to the AIDS epidemic.(1st verse starts with DISEASE - The problem)

    2. Control of the masses - The use media/government/policy to spread this falsehood. (2nd verse starts with BELIEF - How the problem comes about)

  • Sarah Green needs to Stfu in this song. She tried too hard. I usually like her.

  • I'm not completely sure what this song is about..someone care to enlighten me?

  • This song is Basically about Aids and the streets and how people are living these days. Like talking about the lifestyle is getting worse. The poor say the rich have the cure and the rich say the poor are the source means the rich can afford a cure. and the rich are out of the bad lifestyle. And the rich say the poor are the source which means cuz they're poor the rich say that it's the poor people who are dirty and started ruining the world

  • Wrong....if you know lupe..that isn't what it's about..

  • Aids

  • If you know Lupe...u know everything isn't what it seems..the song isn't about "AIDS" its about "disease of a thought " like Harduud14 said. Get your history game up...

  • well he couldn't mess up the first tonight any worse. other than that Lupe beastin it, matt and the other chick.... that was bad

  • man i just loove that intro !

  • Toniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite!!!

  • She was a little too loud. But other then the chorus, she sounded great with her back up vocals.

    Lupe, You're the man.

  • this is my favorite song by lupe fiasco

  • wad r u guys saying...sarah green killed this song together wit lupe and matthew...

  • LUpe.....is amazing.

  • Stupenda questa canzone!!!Grande voce!!!

  • Legendary Shit.

    Thanks for reviving hip-hop Lupe.

  • amen! greatest living rapper IMO

  • I really like this performance and I really like Sarah's voice but I agree with most people, she could have toned it down a bit. Santos sang only in turn but she tried to adlib out of control, though I suppose Lupe wanted her to do that. It didn't sound bad but she stuck out too much IMO.

  • She tried to steal the show.

  • where can you find out his next concert???

will loive to see him before my b day

  • yeah..it's Matthew and the girl is Sarah Green

  • Lupe is so incredibly amazing. He puts on a legitimate live show too, not fake-ass recording playing over.

  • no offense but the girl kinda killed it

    LUPE IS THE BEAST!!!!!!

  • I agree the chick messed the song her voice sucks

  • i like her voice

  • yeah its great... its a beautiful voice... but it doesn't go with the song...

  • this is amazing

  • how come noone puts the actual song?

  • copyright infringment

  • The performance was great but Sarah sort of killed the tone Lupe probably was trying to present with that song. It wasn't that bad though, she sounded nice.

  • this song is about the "streets", the character he created, and how her corruption spreads like a plague

  • He was right a virus was coming

    SWINE FLU!!!

  • OMFG SWINEEEEEEEEEEEE FLU

  • I was thinking the same thing lmao

lupe predicted it all along smh

  • Lupe is a genius.

  • bloody am inlove with this song!

  • GOOSEBUMPS!

  • He got this Concept for the song from George Or well's, "1984" Book. Listen to the Lyrics and Understand it.

  • I thought I was the only one that understood that. Thanks.

  • This is Lupe's best song.

And this should've been the damn theme song for I Am Legend.

    Lupe is the best.

  • It would fit.

  • it could've been the theme song for mirrors edge too

  • LUPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    He is amazing

  • mat <3

  • Skyscrapers emit the images(locally) we see on our tv.(they used to give us all we seen)skyscapers are modern day "shrines" for the rich and wealthy as pyramids and temples were centuries ago. thats what lupe was talking about in the second verse

  • thats a fkn sick interpretation!

  • is that good or bad?

  • Very good lol!

  • My nigga Lupe was mad hype. L

Lupe is in a category of his fuccin own cuz he's so much better than most of these other dudes

  • This song is perfect for explaing Swine Flu in a couple of years!!

  • lol, swine flu wont be that bad, the virus in this song seems ore devastating

  • this my fuckin shit....gotta go unda favz....

  • one of my favorite songs of all time.

    its such a global song.

speaks on real situations in the world.

instead of about how big his car rims are

  • I agree very intense

  • mine to bro

  • i listen to this while i watch the news coverage on swine flu. it makes it sound creepy

  • same i told my friend he can see the future

  • lupe is good but hes nt nxt to em and DEFINITELY not nxt to Pac

  • dont ever compare Fiasco to fuckin Pac. they sing about completly different things. and Fiasco is not fuking gang bangin nigger

  • so true

  • hes nothing like pac and pac is nothing like him. Em? not even close. Lupe's music is WAAAAY deeper than Pac's and Em's. Not as hard but its so much more inteligent and profound.

  • hate to say it but true

  • This is a great song :)

  • ?_? lol LT yur name is da same everywhere

  • streets on fire SUCKS! im ignorant is why i SAY IT!! lol JP.

streets on fire is one of my most favorite lupe fiasco songs of all time, may even be #1

  • It really frustates me that lupe is not at the very top, he deserves it. This is my favourite song by him

  • he killed da intro nd nikki nd santos killin it...nikki bad i'll eat dat wit no prob.....lupe is da most lyrical nigga out there right now...he really be talkin bout shit unlike these wack ass rappers.......hiphop aint die..he just dealin wit alot of wack niggaz

  • phenomenal performance.

  • oh SHIT--this rendition is ILL-agree with all the other positive comments.

  • Hands down one of the best lupe songs to date

  • The illest song lyrically ever fuckin made!!!

words cant describe the way i felt when i first heard this.

Lupe will be the best when his time is done but for now My dude NAS is still the best.

  • How the hell is Nas a sell out?! Untitled is amazing!

  • same here bro...I first heard this on a ipod that had 2 albums on it...The Cool, and Plies!!! No bullshit!!! I listened to this song literally for like a week straight!

  • the girl killed it. somebody cut her mic

  • Hands down, best lyricist in the world.

  • awesome performance!

i always wondered tho, is the first verse really about AIDS and is the second verse really about a police state?

  • man i really think it is all in the ear of the listener, i think its just about the evil in the world and human nature in general

  • First verse def about a virus epidemic. Second verse about mind control through our television and the fact that they have weather machines that manipulate the weather(yes they have these machines,Katrina, anyone?) Songs fuckin' DEEP just really have to pay attention. Hotep!

  • he killed the intro!!

  • this was rhe best show iv ever been to
