I've tried Ubuntu 7.10 and even without Compiz, it is already an INCREDIBLE operating system.

Whatever. The visuals are the first thing you look at. If it doesn't have good visuals, you probably wouldn't even take a glance at it, eh? Visuals lures you towards it. After that, you can get into detail with the actual system. Duh.

I didn't say anything about whether vista is good or bad. It just makes me laugh that people compare compiz to vista or suggest you change your operating system to have some graphical coolness. The operating system is a lot more than just graphics

for shure, Vista its the World Dominant OS..., and still have problems to get ppl on it...

the funny thing, Microsoft its forcing to every one to switch to Vista (they give you the option to still use XP but will cost you more), and no one whants to begin from 0 with compatibilities issues like the migration from 95 to 2000/XP.

my recomendation, make all your systems OS independent. cheap and secure.

Vista, is just horrible, not just the eye candy but the os itself, windows in general has more security problems because its the majority and ppl target it the most... The only reason to switch to vista if your not an idiot, is dx10 to take more advantage of the new video cards... overall, i think linux is better than windows by far, the only part is that linux is harder to use but it can do anything the other os's can do, plus windows has higher system requirements costing more money

If you ask the average user (and I have asked a lot of people) "What do you like about vista?" More often than not the answer is about how it looks. I never hear anything about security or compatibility or even about actual usability. People just seem to get swayed by eye candy.

Well... Ubuntu is based on debian - I have debian and I had beryl, i recently uninstalled it and installed compiz fusion (took me about few minutes, seriously) - so I wouldn't say it's complicated - for me it was a matter of minutes and two or three commands. ;)

You select tilt view at the expo plugin in CCSM. I don't use tilt anymore. :p

It's more of an enhancement of the workspace, helping you work better with windows. ;)

Better overview of windows, you can have one workspace for chat and music for example while using the other one for work relative things. It's just really easy to overview and manage all your windows. It's like having 2 monitors but to be able to swap between them.

You don't need all these things, you can choose from 30+ "plugins" with different options. So if you feel that you don't need a specific feature, just disable it.
