Kerrigan was an idol of mine "back in the day" (can't believe this was nearly 20 years ago, that's NOT RIGHT). But the thing is, if you've seen one of her routines, you've pretty much seen them all. Her style was very crisp and fresh, then it became commonplace. She didn't push herself to grow as an artist.
I remember being so annoyed with her at the 1993 worlds here she basically gave up. I lost all respect for her. Though, I did feel bad for the attack I honestly didn't care if she made the 94 team.
Nancy was blessed with her figure and the impression she gave on the ice, but outside of Lillehamer, her skating is pretty bad. She was like a prettier version of Jill Trenary - reputed for artistry and not backed with competent, reliable jumps. Ito and Yamaguchi are much more exciting and complete skaters to watch and Nancy was placed correctly in the standings here, which cannot be said about her outrageously high placement at Worlds a month later.
Nancy Kerrigan would make a great figure skating coach and actress for the movie Blades of Glory 2 - Going for the Gold with Taylor Firth, Sasha Cohen and Sarah Huges.
SOLE2SOUL, that is exactly why this performance was for THAT time, no need to compare then and now. If THAT Kerrigan was skating in today's time, then she'd obviously be in the mindset of today's skating. But even though there were mistakes here, she had a great program and presentation. She only medalled because of Ito and Harding blowing it in the short program. Those two were better than her. Not every podium finish is close. This one had a big gap separating Yamaguchi/Ito with Kerrigan.
That was so much worse than I remembered. She was extremely lucky to get a medal after this floundering performance - 2 intended triples singled, nearly falling on a 3rd triple and can't hold her final pose. She wouldn't even be in the top 15 today!
This was a great program. Besides the original choreography, interpretation and music cuts (which worked well), this program had nice directions and placements on the ice with nice ice coverage. And it wasn't just going from jump to the next jump, but there was artistic and step content in-between. It was a complete program. She always had programs that were modern-contemporary/art yet having classic and traditional fundamentals and style around it. This is what Kerrigan stood out for.
well, this was a year they weren't even thinking she'd medal. They were thinking "maybe we will get lucky and it will go our way" but it was more like they were just happy for her to be there. They knew at the time she'd be going in 2 more years to olympics due to the change in olympics. She and her parents were elated that she got bronze!
Well, Nancy is a very beautiful lady to watch skating, but I think that she opened a BIG door for Midori. I think that hand down on the triple toe was a sense of her getting tired. At least she got a medal.
Nancy has nothing to be ashamed of. It was a great program.
this was a horrible program and she did not deserve a medal...tonya harding should have won the bornze medal the only reason nancy got a medal was becasue of her dress and "beauty"
Tonya winning the bronze? Nancy did at least 4 clean triples Tonya just 2 (the loop and the first toe-loop all the rest were two-footed or missed).... Not to mention she skated like a a bear in a skating dress....You must be mad!
If she had skated cleanly she probably would have won. Even Kristi made mistakes and the judges probably would have felt pressured to give the gold to a top skater who did a clean performance if someone actually had.
I had forgotten about her slip off the final pose. The other videos I've seen of it don't include that (unless I missed it, which I doubt I would). A good program. Technically not as strong as Harding's in my opinion, but much better artistically and she was in 2nd coming in, so I think her bronze was well-earned.

When she hit them she had one of the nicest triple flip jumps.

@safehaven11 I'm shocked she medaled; she popped 2 jumps, put her hand down, and ended the program very strangely

Nancy has nothing to be ashamed of. She should be very proud of herself.

This was a very good program. I guess she got tired. Well she let Midori beat her but overall it was a great program.
