Umm... wow. Just wow. No, I can not believe my eyes. At all. It's an 8 track deck, grafted into a late 80's stereo. By the maker. Hmm. I owned a Soundesign stereo from that era. Wouldn't even suffice as a dumbbell. The thick metal cartridge mechanism - never modernized with Hasbro plastic - probably doubled the weight. Dare I suggest it's the only working tape deck?
Hope you got some money for it, but only as an "oh God... why?!" curio.
Oh, then I actually *watch* the video. How unusual. I got mine from someone who used it maybe once a week for five years. The turntable had literally collapsed on one side. One tape deck made a wretched mechanically squealing sound and didn't advance tape. The other deck's play button was jammed, complete with a cassette in the deck, all snarled up inextricably. Hell, even the stereo MPX function had failed on the tuner. I know. It's all integrated. Yeoow!
@coldplays179 i got the same tape but it's in a lot worse shape, but i found it in a half fallen down trailer house on some land my dad bought and it actually plays pretty good.
Are you saying the last cartridge was manufactured in 2006 or the last album produced? Because the underground never stopped making them. In fact - the new Cheap Trick album is available in a limited edition 8 Track version, along w/other indie titles you can probably find.
Cool - thanks! I didn't know they were still making the carts that recent - very cool info. The company that produced Cheap Trick's new album on 8 Track is officially looking for anyone w/molds. If they're successful in locating some they could start being produced again very soon.

Wow, OK, now I see it has an 8-track player, too! Really amazing to see that in such an '80s product!

That's a cassette deck, not an 8-track player.

Looks like a "Soundesign" brand. They hung onto 8-track tech for a long time! I have a alarm clock/radio with an 8-track player in it!
