  • Umm... wow. Just wow. No, I can not believe my eyes. At all. It's an 8 track deck, grafted into a late 80's stereo. By the maker. Hmm. I owned a Soundesign stereo from that era. Wouldn't even suffice as a dumbbell. The thick metal cartridge mechanism - never modernized with Hasbro plastic - probably doubled the weight. Dare I suggest it's the only working tape deck?

Hope you got some money for it, but only as an "oh God... why?!" curio.

  • @Manimal347

Oh, then I actually *watch* the video. How unusual. I got mine from someone who used it maybe once a week for five years. The turntable had literally collapsed on one side. One tape deck made a wretched mechanically squealing sound and didn't advance tape. The other deck's play button was jammed, complete with a cassette in the deck, all snarled up inextricably. Hell, even the stereo MPX function had failed on the tuner. I know. It's all integrated. Yeoow!

  • this thing is awesome, how could you sell it?....and awesome 8 track CCR

  • @coldplays179 i got the same tape but it's in a lot worse shape, but i found it in a half fallen down trailer house on some land my dad bought and it actually plays pretty good.

  • what brand is the stereo? WPC? it's loud

  • @8trackworld Soundesign

  • who's that on the cassette?

  • @astralentity

That is Billy Joel on the Cassette tape. The song is called The Downeaster Alexa, and its on His Storm Front album.

  • "Billy Joel - Storm Front" released in 1989 (I have this on CD)

  • this stero looks high tech for its time

  • Wow, OK, now I see it has an 8-track player, too! Really amazing to see that in such an '80s product!

  • That's a cassette deck, not an 8-track player.

  • My grandma has that same stereo but with a built in turntable.

  • Um blarneychef why do you always play pre-recorded tapes!

  • Good "SOUNDESIGN" product!

  • I saw a similar unit a buy sell trade store. but I already have 3 similar units

I wish I was allowed to buy more stero but my parents would throw me out!

  • gotta llove the sound of an 8track

  • Looks like a "Soundesign" brand. They hung onto 8-track tech for a long time! I have a alarm clock/radio with an 8-track player in it!

  • WOW! That system looks pretty new for 8-track!

  • I wish I had one I like the VU meters They look like stairs

  • 8 traks were still made in the 80's a lot were phil collins albums and such

the last 8 track cartridge was made in 2006!

  • Are you serious!

  • yes!!

  • yes!!

  • Are you saying the last cartridge was manufactured in 2006 or the last album produced? Because the underground never stopped making them. In fact - the new Cheap Trick album is available in a limited edition 8 Track version, along w/other indie titles you can probably find.

  • I meant the last cartridge

  • Cool - thanks! I didn't know they were still making the carts that recent - very cool info. The company that produced Cheap Trick's new album on 8 Track is officially looking for anyone w/molds. If they're successful in locating some they could start being produced again very soon.

  • Cheap Trick is releasing their new album on 8 track!
