  • cool

  • I hate 10-0 prolene and as such also hate vascular surgeons...

  • hi i have to get a fasciotomy soon due to a very rare condition of fascial hernia's bout 3 on each leg ave been told am about the third known to my consultant to have this how serious of an operation is this please note i have had bilateral subtaylor athrodesis and fascial hernia's removed in past was also born with clubbed foot had that corrected as a baby x

  • is it normal to be aroused and disturbed at the same time watching this? xD JK JK

  • omg i had five surgery from birth my leg got stuck on the umm yeah and i had to a surgery to order my foot again it took about six surgery to be done

  • glad im unconscious for sugeries now...

  • when someone get a diamondback snake bite..does it necessary to do a fasciotomy ? :)

  • @ShinSo606 if the area with the bite mark swells a lot then yes they do cut it open to relieve pressure. You don't want excess swelling anywhere in the body because it can seriously impede circulation which then leads to tissue death and amputation.

  • YUM!

  • Ow no ... this is my friend.... i dont belive... nooooooooooooooooooooooo

    Stop

  • I had been suffering from compartment syndrome for the past 4 -5 years. My major peoblem had been unable to run, walk, or sleep as i would get so much pain under my arch, infront of my shin and sever pain when running. I have been extremley fortunate to be able to known a surgeon Mr M A Fazal, who had carried the here facsiotomoy surgery on my both leg> Its been 4 days..........I am so happy that there are no more pain in my leg...Thank Allah and a special gratitude to MR Fzal my surgeon..

  • when i grow up i want to be a cardiovascular surgeon...and i was wondering if fasciotomies are from that field because i've always wanted to do one

  • I went through this same surgery, on the same leg. I am still currently healing, I was working construction when I fell off a roof.

  • guys ,u have to focus the camera ?can't make out anythin with the video.

i suggest do it again and focus the camera nearer or place it in between the ot light

  • Although I dont see your response here I did recieve it in my email... I was wondering if you could tell me what test would have to be done to see how much muscle damage has been done if this has been compartment syndrome all these years. I have not been able to bear full weight on this leg for the 2.5 yrs pretty much. I have had an mri which just shows a mild muscle strain. Something is so wrong and nothing keeps showing up on tests. The pain is unbearable ..thank you for your help -patty

  • I would strongly recommend that you be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. He will be able to evaluate you and measure your compartment pressures. Good luck.

  • Can someone have severe compartment syndrome for 2.5 yrs? I have had this severe pain in my outter calf for that long. It basically feels like the muscle is too big for the leg. some of the pressure is different now and It just is severe pain and a muscle that feels sunk in and not working right. I know I am in big trouble and I cant find a doctor to help :(

  • What you are describing may be a chronic compartment syndrome which is different from the situation we treated in the video. I would recommend that you be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon.

  • I have been having the same problem as you but for a lot longer (10 years). I have tried just about everything and for many, their recommendation seems to be surgery. My advice to you is to buy a foam roller and target the piriformis, muscle of the lower back, hamstring, IT band, front quadriceps. You should work these muscle groups 3 times per day. keep your exercise activity low for now. In about six weeks or sooner, you will see a major improvements.

  • I must have something more than this because it seems like half of my muscles are sunk in and gone and really painful and the lower half seem to be swollow and bulging out. The Doctor on here suggests an Ortho but i have seen many...they are clueless. and not doing anything. The pain is severe I am in tears everyday just about. and I cant walk on it. How do you get an Ortho doc to listen and do something? I just dont even know what to do or who to go to anymore

  • @zooropa1967 I have the same. My suggestion is to try a naturopath with a triple hit in the area of blood circulation. As well, focus on stretching routines to decompress the area and manual fascia manipulations.

  • I had this doneseveral years ago due to burns

  • Just had my fasciotomy done about a week ago. Surgery went well and was off the crutches a few days later. Still hobbling around though. 2nd time getting this done and hopefully the last. My incisions are about 7 inches long though. Not very sexy, lol...

  • was both sets of suregery due to compartment syndromme or for slightly dif problems??? i've had the surgery myself, it went very well but 18months later i had a diff type of shin prob

  • Just had my fasciotomy this morning. Surgeon found a neuroma that he thinks was caused from the fascia squeezing the nerve.

  • Nice video, would have been better if we had a close up.

Once you identify the posteromedial septum, do you simply blunt dissect it ?

Does one have to perform both incisions in all cases, I mean for anterolateral and posteromedial compartments or one suffices based on which compartments have greater swelling ?

  • Thanks for the comments. Decompression of the superficial posterior and deep posterior compartments of the leg requires an incision into the fascia to fully open and release the underlying muscle.

In general, all four muscle compartments should be decompressed in a patient with a compartment syndrome. This usually requires two separate incisions.

  • what are common side effects that can occur from having a fasciotomy?

  • maybe some nerve injury if the surgeon is not careful, but unlikely to be a major motor nerve. possible cutaneous nerve transection...with some resultant deficit in skin sensation.

but, this is an emergent situation, with irreversible tissue death if nothing is done about it. gotta do it!

  • whats the yellow device for? does that ligate the bleeding vessels?

  • The yellow device is the electrocautery pen. It is also known as the bovie. It uses electrical energy to dissect tissues and cauterize small bleeding vessels.
