This has to be one of my favourite shows ever. Remember so well seeing it all on BBC2 in the UK in the 1970s and early 1980s. The first two series were definitely the best, cried at the beginning of the 3rd season (couldn't believe Rhoda and Joe were separating) and staggered through Seasons 4 and 5. It was so obvious that Jim Brooks and Allan Burns no longer ran the show. But Valerie Harper is still one of my favourite actresses after all these years!
This theme music for RHODA is taken directly from the song "Yama Yama Man," which was written in 1908 by Karl L. Hoschna. (Check it out: you can find a video clip of Ginger Rogers singing "Yama Yama Man" on Youtube.) . However, in these closing credits, at :46 they give credit solely to Billy Goldenberg for composing the theme music, and he wasn't even born until 1936! There should have been a lawsuit.
The pre-credit sequence, where Mary sees Rhoda off at the airport [and gets "frisked" when she sets off a security device], was eliminated from ALL syndicated reissue prints of the episode (don't ask me why!).
I understand from a friend in the US that the Mary Tyler Moore airport scene was shown last week on The American Life Network but there was another edit in the episode, the scene of Rhoda applying make up,waiitng for Joe was cut out on the tranmission last week.
@fromthesidelines on the American Life Channel, They are showing this version now, how ever they just cut parts of the middle of the show out. I was very surprised that the original 1st episode aired, but is not on the DVD, what a rip off!
@ElJefeNLA Its so annoying Shout are still saying they couldn't find a lot of Rhoda season1 episodes unedited yet Hulu.com are showing four Rhoda season1 epiosdes, unedited that are edited on the DVD set.
Also ALN showed the Mary Tyler Moore airport scene from the pilot, missed out on the DVD set,it really is a joke.
@ElJefeNLA I know Shout came out wiuth all this bull "We searched high and low".
It was when someone posted a scene from "9E Is Avaialble" with a cut scene reinstated,it clicked season1 DVD of Rhoda had been put togethor with a lot of syndicated, edited episodes.
I'll be darned! I just watched my DVD again. I have seen this syndicated version MANY times, but have never noticed that Mary Tyler Moore was standing in the crowd at the airport during the credit for BILL ZUCKERT / L. MUSIC. In fact, I never paid attention that there was an airport scene in the credits at all- that wasn't in the episode I'd just watched!
So, I am guessing there is a cut scene at the beginning of the episode where Mary drops Rhoda off at the Mpls airport?

Yes there were so many complaints Shout Factory made sure season 2 of Rhoda was uncut and remastered,season3 is out next week and the same.
I want to see Rhoda season1 issued again complete and remastered.

I'm totally confused. Was Mary Tyler Moore in the pilot of Rhoda, but her scene was cut out from the syndication prints/Shout Factory DVDs?

And I'll be darned again. I just saw the scene in question in another one of JAldridge's posts. INCREDIBLE FIND!
I'll never watch those cut DVDs in the same light again. :-(
