I don't agree with the schooling and working being a system that is failing us. I am a junior in college and it's part of my whole life, I enjoy the now, the today, and I do it quite often. School only takes like 6 hours a week of work anyway. And a job will contribute to the whole of our existence, and for that matter so will going to school. Some people can't wait to get to the end, but there's plenty who slow down and smell the roses, not just hippie Zen masters.

I don't agree with the schooling and working being a system that is failing us. I am a junior in college and it's part of my whole life, I enjoy the now, the today, and I do it quite often. School only takes like 6 hours a week of work anyway. And a job will contribute to the whole of our existence, and for that matter so will going to school. Some people can't wait to get to the end, but there's plenty who slow down and smell the roses, not just hippie Zen masters.

I agree with a lot of what Watts has to say but I find that many people who listen to his idea about life being a song with no prize at the end of it usually become aimless, directionless wastes. I'm not accusing Watts of this being his intention but lots of people I know seem to think it is. I think its very important you craft your life into something, give yourself some ambition, some drive, and not just float through life with no responsibilities or cares. Thats what killed the hippies.

I have found, if someone isn't "primed" -- that is, already asking questions, or expressing feelings that "something just isn't right" with society -- it's best to move on to someone who is. Some folks just don't want to wake up, and all your efforts won't convince them. They will simply "rationalize" evidence and reason away.

I am making less than b4, but happy. 3yrs in, interesting opportunities are opening up. Who knows, I could eventually be much better off, financially. But that's a bonus. The major improvement in my life is I enjoy what I am doing.

It's uses are pretty easy to grasp, since a baby knows almost nothing, we learn through mimicing others, mirror neurons could be establishing this. I recommend you research the topic if you want to learn comprehensively about it since my knowledge on the issue is limited to couple of articles and a chapter in a psych book.

if you could atleast bother to read the wiki page on this, the pheneomenon you are referring to is basically due to mirror neurons firing, and the neurons from the missing limb which are supposed to indicate that the feeling is not real to the brain are missing, so you can't distinguish the two, and feel as if the limb was still there.

the wiki article is about that theory that neurons fire when you watch someone else doing something, but they aren't the same neurons that fire if you actually do the thing yourself with your own body. it doesn't seem to have anything to do with 'phantom limbs' at all. interestingly, it does explain why some people think they are someone else, just from watching those someone else's - which is the truth behind The Feelies in the novel Brave New World.
