Iam a armoured recce soldier in the Canadian military who has two tours of duty overseas, and a sacrifice medal for combat related wounds recieved in Afghanistan. I say from the bottom of my heart that the sacrifice of the US soldier in Vietnam has not gone un noticed by myself or my family. Thank-you from a Canadian. Lt General Hal Moore is my hero and i wish to one day shake his hand.
They forgot to include the fight for LZ Albany in the movie. I believe it was part of the LZ Xray war Or Ia drang. when 2nd btln, 7th Cav left Xray that morning heading for LZ albany it seemed as though the NVA knew where they were going and eventually ambushed them there. My question is why did they leave Xray.? Why not just wait for the Hueys to take them out?
@Airman241Yes it is. so why did they abandoned xray in the firstplace? they shoul've just wait for the hueys. i think they were looking for trouble and they got it. that doesnt make sense huh. the gooks watched them packed from the hills and so they chased them and knew where they were headed. there's a gook behind the treeline clutching an AK
So this is what I want to know: Why hasn't it been clearly represented, by the soldiers themselves and by the media, that those companies that landed on the football field were bait to lure out the NVA regiments so they could be pulverized by the B-52's? It was no accident that Moore's men became suddenly surrounded. Like Khe Sanh in '68, these men were part of a grand decoy to decimate those NVA regiments from the air. Why isn't this acknowledged in the Ia Drang battle-histories?
I will remember his face, so when i run into him, i will shake his hand and tell him thank you liuetenant colonel for everything you did. I respect every ounce of you, and i hope you know that i look up to you being how brave and patriotic you are. And i hope to follow your wisdom while im in the army and fighting a war of my own.
It kills me to know what these men endured and the sacrifices they made so that my generation can throw it all away. I don't know how low we will have to go before we make an about-face and have to fight again to restore our great nation. Always remember that we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD!
WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE AND YOUNG is my favorite Vietnam War book. I was surprised to see that Gen. Moore stated that the "movie is 3/4 true and 1/4 Hollywood." haha I knew it. This is proof that Hollywood uses great heroes like Gen. Moore to recruit young men to fight America's wars. WIth age, men grow wise but youth is all full of spunk and idealism.
@jimbo9650 You're wrong. Without the politicians to give you money to fight with, the American fighting man will be beaten. American soldiers didn't free anyone. People are free because they want to be free and will fight all foreign military powers, including the Americans, if they don't leave their country.
Thanks to all who served in Vietnam. They were remakable, awesome, heroes!!

This guy is the real deal. I think Galloway sometimes forgets he was a photographer not an enlisted soldier.
