It looks like an actual missile hit. Regardless of the MSL, the land in some countries can be very high. It doesn't look like a shoulder fired missile so it's probably big enough to hit something at 15,000 feet or more.
I'm pretty sure that the UAV was NOT hit by a SAM... This UAV was flying at an altitude well above what any SAM in Iraqi hands is capable of hitting. Look at the MSL... 22,000+ feet above sea level. And this definitetly looks like Afghanistan!

It looks like an actual missile hit. Regardless of the MSL, the land in some countries can be very high. It doesn't look like a shoulder fired missile so it's probably big enough to hit something at 15,000 feet or more.

I'm pretty sure that the UAV was NOT hit by a SAM... This UAV was flying at an altitude well above what any SAM in Iraqi hands is capable of hitting. Look at the MSL... 22,000+ feet above sea level. And this definitetly looks like Afghanistan!

@Josh7A1C It's in Iraq, alright. You got the coordinates right there. The ground elevation is less than 20 feet. Iraqis (2001) had S-125 SAMs that could be operated from truck-like vehicles. The upgraded version can reach elevations of over 59000 feet, the standard version.. well. Has a range of ~15km. If we assume that half of that can be achieved as vertical range, that's 25000 feet.
Did it hit? I don't know. US did lose two predators in the early war in Iraq (around 2001).

@robertgift Yeah, easily. That's why the Blackbird was designed during the Cold War. Most planes had a ceiling of 35,000 feet and could be easily shot down. Even by SAM technology then. SAM isn't a specific missile either. It just stands for surface to air missile and could represent a number of missile systems that are surface to air.

It's nothing to do with whether they hate the US or not. They're just not happy with the US's decision to lower interest rates which likely affects the value of the dollar rather than correcting its overspending by reducing its budget deficit.

@gazakind and as for the US bases, Germany and other countries allowed this to happen due to diplomatic reasons, its not just the US who's benefiting from it, Germany for example could afford to minimise it's spending in the military due to reliance of alliances like NATO and the EU to cooperate if they are under attack. It's not an occupation when it's a mutual benefit. The same goes with Japan, Japan also relies on the US military hardware as well as their alliance.
