  • how long after u took your post workout (shake+banana) you have to wait before u eat your main meal ?

  • @avi999il

About an hour after the post workout shake I'll eat a meal.

  • Hey will I lose muscle for sleeping late sting 7 am in the morning ? But I still eat every 2-3 hours. I feel kinda weak. Maybe it's just because I have not sleep?

  • @Thevide0123

You should strive to get a total of 8 hours sleep in a 24 hour period. Now if you can't get all that at night, then try to make up for it with an afternoon nap.

  • great advise thank you

  • Great video man I am a total noob to bodybuilding and all the contradicting information from different experts was starting to drive me crazy lol

  • ive always wondered this lol, thank you for all of the info! really helps!!!!

  • Thank u man. I so needed that info.

  • What would you recommend to loose body fat over a short time period? I amnt like massively fat but overweight to what I used to be mainly due to sporting injuries. Got some weeks off from school coming up so hoping to loose a few pounds at least. Stomach fat in particular...........cheers

  • @IrishRu5T

Bottom line you are NOT going to lose a lot of fat quickly, you need to take a long term approach. Even at my level of training and experience I still need 6 months to diet down and get ripped for competition.

  • @leemhayward Not talking about like being a bodybuilder yaknow. Can't even do sports anymore [got pernament injuries] so I can't just keep in shape 'naturally'. Just want to try lose a few pounds pretty easily...............oh well, guess im shagged so

  • @IrishRu5T

Well lets start with the basics...

    1) are you even going to the gym and working out? If not, now would be a good time to start.

    2) are you doing any cardio? If not now would be a good time to start, even just going for an hour long walk every day will work wonders for fat loss.

    3) are you eating a clean healthy diet? If not now would be a good time to start.

  • @leemhayward All 3. Im not doing as much as I'd like but I still spend a chunk hours in the gym a week. Guess I should do more running but damn, its boring. I mean...2 years ago I was training for sports 4/5 nights a week, was a lean mean running machine. Bad metabolism so I guess :/ Im no fattie like, but not exactly a 'tank' anymore. Thanks for the help anyway buddy

  • @IrishRu5T If you want to be healthy, go ahead and do the things you already know: work outs. If you jsut want to lose the tummy fat, eat less carbs, not nothing at all, but just less. Instead, drink lots of water and tea. Coffee also helps to burn fat. Do 200+ sit ups a few times a day and you'll lose your fat so quick! But remember: don't overdo it! Stay healty, eat lots of veg and fruits! Mainly because vegetables also help you burn the fat!

  • So have you done pre workouts???

  • @TheCGvision

I've got a video on "Pre & Post Workout Nutrition" just search through my "Bodybuilding

    Supplement Playlists".

  • Lee ur the man!!!

  • awesome. I work out late at night so this solves the mystery. thanks!

  • To people who get their bro-fitness tips from fitness mags: Your body stores and releases lipids all day long. Thinking you can time your meals to defy thermodynamics is pretty illogical. Eat when you can.

  • how about just a massive green smoothie?

  • I just worked out and after my workout i had a protein shake and ate 1 cup of pasta and one whole wheat flour tortilla with lean ground beef and vegetables.........not sure about this carbs at night stuff, too many different opinions on it. I did have the carbs right after my workout, is that ok?

  • i find if i go to bed too early after a work out that i wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. Does this happen to anyone else?

  • @NiNJaBuLLie

It just means you have a fast metabolism. I usually sweat during the night as well, I wear a t-shirt to bed and often times wake up 1/2 way through and change the shirt because I'm sweating.

  • Thanks..just the question I needed answered, loud and clear!

  • Great video. I was always confused about post workout nutrition for late night training. I'm glad you cleared it up for people who workout at late.

Just back from the gym now 12.20am, I don't feel bad about having some brown rice with chicken. Thanks again!!!

  • @limitovski i know he said its ok to eat after workout before going to bed but isnt brown rice and chicken a bit too heavy?

  • aint it best to take maltodextrose instead of dextrose since maltodextrose is a slightly slower? I heard it from a professional tour de france runner. HE says the maltodextrose doesn't let your body scare. (not the right english word I guess but I hope you know what I mean)

  • @MyByAlexander

For post workout fast digesting carbs and ideal to help spike your insulin and shuttle nutrients into the muscles. But for the rest of the time slower digesting carbs are preferred.

  • 2:20 After he comes home -> solid meal, allright :p. . .

and then he will throwup things xD? haha i think he said something like clue up, but WTF!

  • I have a question about cardio workouts with a goal to tone the body, not to loose or gain weight. What would be nutrition after the cardio exercises? It's clear that you have to eat after proteins with some carbs after weight or resistance training, but what about running, aerobics, etc. Thanks

  • @VeraBDance

You don't need a post workout shake after cardio. Just have your next scheduled meal.

  • I had to give up working up shortly before bed time because I would not fall asleep.. always get a bit of a surge of energy afterwards for like 12 hours not like i am on a ton of caffeine or anything just energized enough to not allow sleep even after i take a melatonin and or zma supplement. So I now workout first thing when i wake up or shortly there after which is good cause I get that metabolism going and have ton of energy all day through work works perfect for me.

  • @BiddiBiddiBass

Dextrose is a fast digesting sugar that will help replenish and recover depleted muscles after a workout. Creatine and gluatmine are amino acids that can add with strength and muscle growth. I actually have a bunch of supplement videos covering these supplements in more detail.

  • If you haven't already, could you do a video where you go over your shake you mentioned, which consists of: protein powder, dextrose, glutamine, and creatine. You could talk about the purposes of each one, and the ratios, and how each one is beneficial and contributes to muscle growth, etc.....

  • @0ejmusik0

I have posted up a whole supplement video series with all this covered. Just go search through my main video channel and you'll see them.

  • @leemhayward Alright Lee, this might work fine if you're bulking up, but what about when you're cutting?

  • @Zenith4165

I keep post workout nutrition the same when cutting. I make my calorie restrictions in other meals.

  • thanks a lot Lee, i have been wondering about this for a while now

  • Thx Lee! yeah people fail to understand that Carbs after your workout is important since it acts as a protein synthesis,

good things you are here to clarify everything

  • Yes but there are less girls to talk to late at night! Good if your going for a commited relationship though!

  • @yobolion

I personally go to the gym to workout, not to pick up chicks... But if you want to meet girls you should check out eharmony, I hear they can match you up on 29 dimensions of compatibility LOL

  • @yobolion go to the gym to workout so you can go to the clubs to pick up chicks

  • Hey Lee,

How about diary products as evening meals? Like milk, cheese etc.. (2-3 hours before sleep)

    Thanks

  • @Supduplemup low fat cottage cheese is ideal for your last meal before bed, it will provide a slow and constant supply of protein to your muscles while u sleep.

  • Thank you so much for making this video, you don't understand how long I've wanted to know the answer to that question. Just one question though, exactly how much protein do you have after the workout before bed? because I've been having about 100grams in order to be safe in my muscle recovery.

  • @MaaNonu123

I like to consume between 30 and 50 grams of protein per meal spaced out ever 2-3 hours over the day. This applies to before bed meals as well. 100 grams in a single meal is overkill, unless you weigh like 300 pounds or more.

  • I'd say eat and be happy

  • Thanks lee

  • Hey Lee, looking great!

I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year. I have been watching your videos for a while now, and you just feed the raw information without all the bullshit. I've been having great results this past year and I wouldn't be happier without your videos. Please keep up the great work Lee!

    Loyal Subscriber.

  • thanks lee

  • good question and solid answer. this ones been pondering in the back of my head for a while too. thanks for clearing it up Lee.

  • A 24hr gym? I'm jealous. mine shuts at ten.

  • well the thing is that the metabolism is actually faster when asleep compared to when resting and watching tv for example, the only thing is that this is over a number of hours so does not take into account any exercise or food intake during this period

  • I also work out late at night, I also take a proteineshake after my workout when I finished taking a shower. Then when I get home I eat a banana and a can of tuna and take some Amino Acids. Then I just sit watch some TV etc. and after an hour I will eat about 150-200gram of Quark and then go to bed.

But I can't seem to get rid of a little excess bellyfat, it's not much (I'm 1.85m and 83kg/21years) But it's just enough belly fat to prevent my 6-pack from being visible... Do you got any tips?

  • @Livenderrr Check your diet. If that's fine, then you probably need to do some more high intensity exercises to burn it off. Hope this helps. =)

  • @Livenderrr

To burn bodyfat you need to be in a caloric deficit so you'll need to cut back. As well as increasing your cardio.

  • Maybe it's me, but I can't sleep if I have protein in the evenings.

  • @seoul588 thats true, tho eating carbs will make u sleepy..

  • What about if I am just up late usually I get home from the gym normally around 10pm then stay up till about 3am

  • @joshuad2d

This same stuff would still apply for you as well.

  • wow you actually answered multiple questions for me in this video, thanks lee

  • Honestly Lee is this whole concept of PWO shake just another shot by supplement companies to market their powders? Wouldn't the slow digesting protein that you've ate before throughout the day be hitting your muscles at a steady pace after your workouts? Like you said in the free report the most anabolic ingredient we have is food.

  • @gruntdesann

Post workout nutrition is not required to make progress, you can still workout without ever having a post workout shake. But if you want to maximize your results so that you make the best gains possible than post workout nutrition is important.

  • Soft u take creatine.

  • My local gym is still crowdy late at night.... :(

  • Hey big Lee what about cottage cheese? still good before bed even if you workout around noon?

  • @Billynayshere it works good before bed. its basically the same as a casein protein shake if you can get fat free and no salt added.

  • @Billynayshere

Yes, cottage cheese is a good source of protein.

  • how many hours of sleep do u get then?

  • @Thejizzmaster94

I strive to get about 8 hours of sleep a night on average.

  • Thumbs up, no questions just thumbs up!

  • Hey Leem, I like to mix some creatine with my protein shakes. However I've been concerned about this warning label on my tub of creatine. It says "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm." And its called BodyTech 100% Pure Creatine Monohydrate. Have you heard anything about Creatine Monohydrate to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm?

  • @wastnTIMEwastnTIME

Wow... It's a good thing I don't live in California LOL

But seriously I've never of that before. However, I wouldn't recommend pregnant women to take creatine monohydrate. It's something that can be saved when one is following a serious training routine and obviously a pregnant woman wouldn't be doing that.

  • @leemhayward California is where its at!

  • Thanks Lee for the info.

  • I also train at night but wouldn't be more ideal to train in the morning as you wouldn't have the big 8 hour gap with no incoming protein so soon after the workout. I am aware you have a shake and meal before bed but isn't the first 10 hours after a workout when the body needs protein the most?

  • @benfoley83 but you also have the energy from throughout the day when you workout at night

  • @baseballreg123 I am aware of the energy throughout the day, I am more concerned with how I would be getting protein while I am sleeping through the 10 hour window just after a workout.

  • I do exactly the same Protein,Dextrose,Maltodextrin,Creatine,BCAA,Glutamine and then get back and eat Chicken breast and brown rice

  • hey lee how many protein shakes do you recommend each day?

  • @rammajamma1993

I have 2 or 3 shakes per day. The rest of my protein intake comes from high protein food.

  • @leemhayward isn't that bad for your liver?

  • @leemhayward this is an interesting video, I used to think that i was doing wrong eating at night after work out, is it better to take the shakes or aminoacids pills?

  • Hey lee, dont you just love to workout at night? i DO, so much more strength

  • The most important thing when it comes to protein is your overall protein intake. You can consume a wide variety of protein from different sources such as whey protein, casein protein, eggs, meat, fish, chicken, etc. it all goes towards providing your body with the raw materials needed to build muscle.

  • Hey Mr. Haywood when i get through working i go and workout also at night when i get home i eat a can of salmons or chicken and drink my protein shake and i wait for about 2 hours then i take Casein........is that a good idea

  • Hi lee, i just bought this protein shake today, its called Absolute Vegetarian Protein, if you wouldnt mind to tell me if its good or not. No im not a vegetarian just so happened my mom bought it for me :P but ive been reading this thing on the web and it says Whey protein digest faster then any other so i was thinking mine sucks for a post workout meal? could you happen to take some time and search my powder on google and tell me if its any good for my post workout meal? does the protein digest

  • @TurtIeBoy

There is nothing wrong with vegetarian protein powder. You can drink it as a post workout shake. But in the future when you need more protein you should pick up some whey protein.

  • @leemhayward this shake has 25g of protein per scoop :O i saw whey nutrition facts and it has 24 per scoop? should i still take whey when i need more protein? is whey better then the one i have right now?

  • You still take Casein before bed? How much?

  • @jtdrye

Sure, you can have a casein shake before bed. I personally recommend between 30 and 50 grams of protein per meal / shake depending on bodyweight.

  • @leemhayward Hey Lee,

Was wondering if youve ever used egg protein...If so, how can i make the stuff taste less like shit?

One more thing...Can you do a video on an example meal plan for a Clean Bulk? I've looked around, and i cant really find a LEGIT source(Other than BB mag's that are more oriented for the roid crowd.) I would really like to see an example plan for a guy around the high 190's.

Like your channel(Especially the Lotus lol)! Thanks!

  • thanks for that bro. keep it up :)

  • Thank you Mr. Hayward. Cleared up some legit stuff :) Just hope no one come to your gym late now.

  • @TrueShall

I've used variations of a low carb / high fat diet to get ripped for competition. When done properly it does work. I cover all that in my Extreme Fat Loss DVD which is available right on my main website LeeHayward [dot] com

  • What do you think about LCHF diet?
