Gabourney Sidibe and Monique did a brilliant job in playing the abused daughter and abusive mother and congratulations to both women!

I'm glad there are movies like Precious. We may not need to know about the things that happen in the movie (i mean who needs to be reminded that life can deal you a bad hand?), but we do need to understand that movies are an art form and art reflects life; the good and bad parts of it. So take what good you can from it.
Movies aren't suppose to be just happy or sad. They're suppose to make you feel different emotions. Mad, shock, fatigue, uncomfortable. That's what makes movies so great.

I saw the trailer for ths the other day and although it looks like a great movie, I'm not sure If I would be able to watch it without being really depresed the week afterwards.
I don't think there is anything wrong with a film "going there". As long as it is true to what it is portraying. I also like a good documentary witch you see so infrequently on the actual cinema.
film shouldn't just be about making people laugh and aww, it has to be able to make you FEEL. I o make you cry and after come out of the theatre, make you feel like your life has changed in some way. I can't wait to see Precious and I hope it cleans up @ the Oscars next year!!(:
I believe cinema is a medium in which people can not only entertain but generate other feelings, such as sadness. I think that this movie made a good decision by being, not only true to the book but true to reality. It generates an authentic emotion in people and whether or not they like it, it stays in their memory. I myself am aware of all these problems in the world and therefore I am not in any haste to see this movie but I'm sure it's one damn good piece of directing.
Had a chance to see this Last Friday. As an African-American, it's refreshing to see a good film by an African-American filmmaker lead by a (mostly) African American cast. In saying that, though, I felt the film was only pretty good. Some of the stylistic/visual choices of the film get in the way and while the story kept my interest, I never felt part of the world it inhabited (which is one of the qualities I feel a great film must have). Anyway, great video as always!
Film is a medium yes, used mostly for entertainment. But in my opinion, film is much more than that. It is an art, and like all art, is used to express deep emotion. It's films like precious that give me hope for the future of movies.

No the movie was sad, but some parts made me laugh cuz of how ghetto Precious and her mother are. Ex: the part where Precious is yelling at the teacher over the speaker thinking she's a crack addict harassing them. I thought certain scenes were funny, so what ?

this is actually a good movie ! i mean if you think about it shows people that are living in peace and have no hardships in life to be grateful with what they got and to appreciate the fact of having parents that don't put you down but encourage you in a way that helps you to persue their dreams !! i have seen this movie myself and it makes you appreciate the fact that we can live our lives to the fullest and have no worries about it ! so it does show us teens what we should be grateful for !!.

omg that was the hardest scene for me to watch...I was like please don't give that baby to her...but that's where she really overcame and left...it was the turning point....i really loved this movie...it's one where you can just say wow..this girl actually exists somewhere and I don't have to go through half of what she does so I must be grateful for what I have

I'm glad there are movies like Precious. We may not need to know about the things that happen in the movie (i mean who needs to be reminded that life can deal you a bad hand?), but we do need to understand that movies are an art form and art reflects life; the good and bad parts of it. So take what good you can from it.

I truly believe that this movie was so captivating to the heart because it's true reality, sometimes society watches so many action movies & horror stories that we fall out of touch on whats needed to stay in the true reality of whats going on behind close doors in the the homes across the nation!
I am glad that they went there, this should open more avenues to solutions to pave the way in preventing things as such!

You should see the South Park episode on the subject: particulary Stan's.
Its a snuff film about a man being brutally tortured and murdered in graphic detail.
Your not supposed to "enjoy" it in the sense hey lets go to the movie.
Your supposed to say, thats your lord and savior and "how" he became your savior in grisly detail

I believe cinema is a medium in which people can not only entertain but generate other feelings, such as sadness. I think that this movie made a good decision by being, not only true to the book but true to reality. It generates an authentic emotion in people and whether or not they like it, it stays in their memory. I myself am aware of all these problems in the world and therefore I am not in any haste to see this movie but I'm sure it's one damn good piece of directing.

Had a chance to see this Last Friday. As an African-American, it's refreshing to see a good film by an African-American filmmaker lead by a (mostly) African American cast. In saying that, though, I felt the film was only pretty good. Some of the stylistic/visual choices of the film get in the way and while the story kept my interest, I never felt part of the world it inhabited (which is one of the qualities I feel a great film must have). Anyway, great video as always!
