New Jersey's own. Did a great job in the band Spooky Tooth and sessions work with George Harrison among others. This was a different, very entertaining album. Check out "Blind Feeling" and "I was made to love you." two numbers that probably should have gotten more airplay. Joan Osbourne did a nice cover of this recently.
I was born in 1978, and this is one of my top ten favorite albums (whole thing, beginning to the end) of all time. This album was long before it's time. My mom used to listen to it a lot on her vinyl. I played it on my turntable too. Found the 8 track many years ago and had to buy it...didn't really work, but I didn't care. Then came digital media...one of the few full albums programmed into my mp3 player. Every song is BRILLIANT!!
What is amazing is how good the sound live. Try and find that today there are some but not many. This was a time when people really performed. Not like today where everything is just marketing and a nice face. Americanism is dieing. Hello slavery and suffering. The country where you can take a dump on a cop car and are time magazines man of the year. Soon you will be able to mary your cat. That is so great. Equal rights and equality is so great.Freaking sick in the head is rely what it is .
This originally was to be the featured single on the album, but it had only eight tracks at the time. Record execs asked for one more song, and got a listen to the unfinished track for Dream Weaver. They encouraged Gary to feature the song as a centerpiece, which Gary insisted would be a bad move. Fortunately, Gary relented. This song still did very well in its own right and charted well as the second single.
37 years ago, really?? Man, the time has flown. I love this shit as much now as then.We had some good stuff back then. I haven't heard anything new I've liked in a looong time. If that makes me an old fart then, tough shit. I know what I like.
@dasboot19801 Yeahhhh... I was in the midst of what I called my "Cheech and Chong" days back then, being young, livin' large, being freeee (and occasionally stoned) listening to this while cruising in my '68 Camaro. All the fears of the present day were a far off impossibility... Who would have guessed our groovy world would become as F*#@ed up as it is now? From one old fart to another: Keep the faith baby!!
I had the Chaka Khan version when I was a kid. Today is the first time I've heard the original. I wish when people made covers, they put credits in their release so I can find the original, just for personal knowledge and because I might like the original too.
In the mid-1970's at least one topless dancer a night in Austin Texas clubs would dance to this song. Great memories of Sherri and Terri at the Sit-n-Bull and the Doll House.
Gary Wright is awesome! I saw him as part of Ringo Starr's All Starr Band in 2009 (maybe 08 - I can't remember). He performed this as well as Dream Weaver, and they were both awesome. Rick Derringer and Edgar Winter were there too, as well as, of course, Ringo. All involved were awesome!
We used to hear this song on the AM radio after baseball practice and when we were heading to the swimming hole. Then we used to leave the pick up doors open wand the radio on while we swam. Such great memories!!! Thumbs up if this song brings back memories like this for you!
@jgtwiss You're dating yourself.Music on A.M.???And that's exactly where I first heard this great song & many others back in the 70's.Then A.M. went to all talk. That's when I turned on to F.M.And that's when the doors swung wide open! But this song & many others from the 70's bring back memories of mellower, freer times.LESS rules.MORE freedom.
@weightfeather1 It's known as The Dream Weaver Tour. We used 2 drive around Dwarskill,Closter and Old Tappan listening 2 this album and Light Of Smiles wen they were new albums and sing along and people would say "u mean 2 say he grew up right here? really?" we were not from the northern valley part of bergen county but close to it and just as nice as it,too. They could'nt believe the words 2 the songs and the spacey sounds! He never once sang about anything objectionable. Good music all the way
disco song from nite club called troubador louisville ky packed every friday saterday nite wispering hills country club sunday nite great song love it
@goretothecore Ronnie Montrose plays the only guitar track on the album. The song is Power of Love. He's my favorite american guitarrist! Have u ever heard the song "Made To Love You" ? I love that one! I used to sing it to my lady in Bergenfield down the street from where GW grew up.
