  • First of all Great Video really enjoyed it, Made it look real simple! I have one question though. I have a Baja Mini Bike MB165, will this method still work? And if so does anyone know where I can buy a torque converter that will work for the MB165. I went to gokartusa and saw the converter the one for the MB200, but it states it will only work with mb200. Any advice will help. Thanks Alot!

  • @CraAzy6666NiCK o ok kool thanks

  • @MarcelsWorkshop so a #41 chain and sprocket are the same size as a 420 chain and sprocket?

  • Comment removed

  • @mastermikec4 No 420 is stronger and little thicker. But they will fit same sprockets

  • @gabriel56440 I'd say around 60-75km/h depending on weight, wind direction, road surface, and how well tuned the engine and bike is. :P

  • ive added 3 clutch spacers ( thin washers ) and im still just a bit off, its damn near shredded the whole belt. it seems like when it supposed to have tighten and take off, sometimes it dosent grab and then when it does i dont get the most torque because the belts not riding right, then when its supposed to switch to " overdrive " the belt isint alligned so the driver wont close all the way and the driven wont open, so my top end lacks. i have to get a comet belt and get this sorted out

  • @thatcrazycat11168 hmm not sure, perhaps the belt is just too burned up and not gripping right, or somethings wrong with the weights or spring in the driver or driven or maybe the moving parts need to be oiled up. (if you do oil up the moving parts though, make sure you don't get any anywhere the belt makes contact with)

  • You can just get a TAV that's designed to go onto a Baja for $198 and you don't have to do all the mods

  • what was the size of the second spacer you used on the shaft? my driver isint aligned with my driven

  • @thatcrazycat11168 Sorry, I wish I could tell you but I can't remember off hand. I would just start small and keep trying different sizes or combinations of sizes until you find the perfect fit.

  • would you know of any torque converters that can bought that fit the bike as is and dont need to be cut down and cool video you did a good job on camera work wasnt shaky or blurry or anything

  • @SuperConfederateMan Thanks! :D Apparently there's one gokartsusa sells, that was mentioned a couple comments down, that mounts right up with no mods needed. I've never used one of those ones before so I don't know anything about it, but it might be something to look into.

  • @MarcelsWorkshop thanks im going to look into good luck with videos

  • Ok thanks alot man

  • I flipped around my clutch and took out the gear reduction and the governor I could do 70 km/h full out but I over heated my clutch and it locked up so I have to push start it. Ps its for sale $300 obo

  • Wayyyy cool!

  • @XxhockeybladerxX Thanks! :D

  • Hey man what kind of torque converter is that? And i have a baja MB165 with a 196cc engine and i want to put a TC2 torque converter on it from Go Karts USA.com but im not shure what it means to have a crankshaft that is drilled and tapped. I just need to know if i can put a TC2 on my baja without doing any work to it. so if you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks

  • @BraneDrane100 it's a Comet TAV2 Torque-A-Verter. I believe they are just saying the shaft of the engine needs to have a screw hole in the middle of it, which it should. I've never seen a TC2 so I don't know for sure, but according to the description on gokarts usa that one just mounts on with no mods needed..

  • Hay you willing to sell that jackshaft you just pulled out? Thanks

  • @islandminisunlimited ya I probably could. I think I still have it lying around somewhere. :P Although I'm away from home, for school, until like May.

  • @MarcelsWorkshop Okay let me know when you get home in May. Thanks

  • @islandminisunlimited I'll probably forget, so remind me then. :P

  • @islandminisunlimited actually do you know what, I just remembered what I did with it. I put it on my old mini baja that I pulled the torque converter off of, because the one that was originally on that one I cut up and converted to a chain guard when I converted my baja dirt runner 49cc to a 6.5hp mini bike. I want to keep the old mini baja operational so I guess I cant sell the part. :P sorry :(

  • @MarcelsWorkshop No problem just thought it was lying around not being used. Thanks anyway Island

  • What does a torque converter do?

  • @allezsport2010 gives you more bottom end torque and more top end speed. Its like putting an automatic transmission on the bike rather then always being stuck in one gear.

  • Wouldn't it go faster if you just took off the gear reduction and ran a strait chain to the back wheel? How much would it effect the torque on the bike?

  • @andrewzb the top end would probably be a bit higher but it would take longer to get there. also you would loose a ton of bottom end and doing rough off roading or climbing would more then likely fry the clutch. The torque converter gives you more bottom end then the gear reduction kit while also giving you close to the same top end as straight chain to back sprocket. Also if you fry a torque converter belt its a lot cheaper to replace then if you were to fry the centrifugal clutch. :P

  • Where do I get one of those torque converters

  • @TheTonganwarrior1 various places. could try ebay or a quick search brings up a place called mfg supply that seems to sell em. do some searchin lol. The last time I bought one I got it right off comet's site but then they got bought out by another company and don't give that option anymore, so I don't know where the best place would be. :P

  • @TheTonganwarrior1 try gocartusa

  • @paddywagon101 NP. Glad you like it. :D

  • wat is the size of the bolt you took of the clutch thanks.

  • @KiidJerkk323 can't remember, sorry. :P Did it a long time ago and Bikes at home and I am away for school so I can't check. :P I'm sure you could probably find the size online somewhere if you do a search for it.

  • im getting a baja carbon soon, one of the red ones, is the torque converter you have a comet 30 asymmetrical? the person who owns it now just ran a straight chain from the sprocket to the clutch, i know the clutch is burnt because of the ratio at it, hes throwing in tires, rims, fenders and brakes as extra parts, and also a comet 30 that needs a belt all for 230, sound like a good deal?

  • @thatcrazycat11168 the torque converter I use is the Comet TAV2-30. But ya that sounds pretty good if all you need to do is buy a belt and put the torque converter on and your good to go.

  • how do u stop the engin from turning whhen taking off the clutch bolt?

  • @croakar I use an impact wrench to take off the bolt and that gets the bolt out without turning the engine.

  • Issue I'm having is the sprockets with the TAV 30 Torque Converter don't seem to line up...are yours perfect or does it really not matter?

  • @ShityDurPirate like the sprocket things the belt sits in or the sprockets the chain sits on? The back plates of the belt sprockets should line up and same with the chain sprockets or you may get premature wear and not be getting the speed out of it that you could.

  • At BMI karts in the USA you can order the jack shaft assembly for the Yerfdog 3000 series karts. Use this with the longer belt and 7 inch secondary clutch.

Make an engine mount thats 1 inch of rise for 4 inches of run to tilt the engine and jack shaft forward. No modifcations needed this will all clear the frame and protect clutch.

Add 14cc clone head and after market air filter small 7/8" header, jetting required after.

Add a helper spring to the governer keep the RPM under 5000

  • @northerbrewer cool. sounds like a lot of work though lol.

  • @MarcelsWorkshop

    Its a lot of work.

But the difference is you get a much stronger system with a lot more grunt.

A properly set up and braced 30 series is good for an easy 12 hp enging

  • Nice narraration voice, lol.

  • @TheAssassin111 lmao, I think I need to hire Morgan Freeman to do my narrations, that would be a good narration voice lol.

  • you know where i can find a torque converter that isnt going to cost me 200 bucks? lol

  • @LHRShadow lol I wish I did. I guess you could try your luck on ebay or something, or look around for a used one somewhere. :P

  • @LHRShadow gokartusa has them specialy made for the mini baha 6.5 now for 189.00! plus 19.90 for the belt cover!

  • @camarotwofast yeah that's about what i'm finding them for online 179-189$ unless I hunt down a used one.

  • how much did the bike cost, and do you like it?

  • @soulevs Regular price on the bike here is $699, not sure what they go for in the states though. Then the torque converter is about another $200. I like it, it's fun. :)

  • @MarcelsWorkshop are you in canada?

  • @soulevs ya

  • @MarcelsWorkshop nice man, I like your videos. They make me want a minibike, haha

  • @soulevs Thanks! =-) lol you should get one then, there pretty fun. :D

  • @MarcelsWorkshop in the states they are 649.00 @ tractor supply and 300-400 non-retail in new condition..
