Does it really matter how you hold the sticks if you get the sound you want or need? In my eyes, there is no "right" or "wrong" way, just each players own musical idiom, so-to-speak.

@EtniesJuggernaut it's a semi-open hi-hat, it gives a splashy or more thrashy sound. It's done by just half lifting your foot off the hi-hat pedal or taking it off completely depending how you want the sound. How long have you been playing?
