  • This is a VW Golf mk1 commercial.

  • Never have I seen a happier black guy.

  • didn't see him lugging the 20 batteries down the street that he would need to run that hot plate.

Im an advocate of solar power but deception only leads to contempt.

  • Power at night?!?! With a solar panel??? All i have to say is that this guy is freaking smart! He installed a radiant energy receiver tesla-style instead of a solar panel on his roof!

  • why is the solar panel powering stuff at night?

  • LOL that was a funny video, that shower made that guy so happy.

  • @krazeekooladam lmao that was fucking funny

  • STUPID

  • Expense exist to suppress. All nay sayers kindly step into this circle. Down the hole you idiots go.

  • It is just important to also show responsible use of renewable energy, the incandescent light globe and the hot plate (even as a poetic license) should not be encouraged with solar PV systems. Why waste what little is available?

  • I think it shows you ..Free energy is here for all to have. Not a dream..It's a reality.

  • Funny the $30,000 worth of batteries and $4,000 inverter to run a hotplate from 250 watts of PV panels wasn't shown.

  • Song?

  • The music was performed by a South African mbira musician called Ross Johnson, and all put together by Wilding Penderis - our sound designer.

  • great video, everyone should have something like that, expecially those more financially able.

  • Great video.

    But...

I think that when we are promoting green technologies we should be accurate and appropriate. The video seems to imply that the two solar panels are able to supply enough electricity to run a light, electric burner and hot water. This is extremely unlikely - more likely impossible.

The light certainly but not the hot water and cooking. It would be more appropriate (and less expensive) to use solar hot water panels for the water heating.

  • Creating unrealistic expectations for green technologies doesn't help the cause - it harms it.

  • Very fair comment in general.

Except you missed that he's installing the panels next to an existing solar water heater.

Really the only item that we took 'poetic license' with was the hotplate.

At the time of shooting, we felt that the purpose of a 90sec spot was not so much to be 100% accurate as to give a general impression of the direction to move. Perhaps adding the hotplate was unnecessary.

    Thank you for your comment.

  • Oops, I missed the SHW heater the first time I watched it! Well done!

  • Well...the movie is made very good. In fact this could be achived but what is not shown(and is not needed) is the entire instalation. First we see a Sun Water Heeter on the left of the electric pannel solving the heated water problem. The problem with cooking is solved by using an induction cooking mashine - 40-60% more eficient then gas or electrical. The energy is stored in some car bateries charged by the solar pannel.

  • Unfortunately the hole instalation for a house is very expensive. In Europe the smalest posible instalations(SWH and Fotovoltaic instalation) and the cheapest induction cooking mashine cost more then 5000 euros~7000$. Maybe with some help and desire to do good can cost 4000 $...This is very expensive for many of the people.

  • @b5baxter

Why do the baxter's of the world always miss the obvious and fail to see the whole picture.

  • 1st prize at the 2007 Commonwealth Vision Awards last night! Wonderful!
