The legendary C64 was a superb computer, I loved it playing music when games loaded instead of the annoying screeching and squaking of the Sinclair Spectrum. Games took time to load instead of the near instant loading times of the consoles of today and we couldn't save our progress in the game, we just had to start from the beginning :) I miss the good old days :)
then ikary warriors lots off hours i played in my c64 miss the day now i have ps3 but i remember having more fun playing games in the c64 and the amiga500 still have them both with almost all the games
i was 22 in 1984 when i bought my commodore 64 breadbin shape, in 1987 i bought the new shape c64, but i thought the sound wasnt as good as the old shape 64, so i took it back to the shop and got a refund and went back to my breadbin 64. im 48 now and still have my old 64. i still load up my old tape games once in a while just to hear the music. even my 10 year old daughter loves the c64.
Was the loader music used in other games too? I seem to remember it being on a different game or 2 but as I don't have my c64 anymore i can't check lol
@akutabi I read the first game to use this track was Target Renegade. Then followed Robocop and Typhoon. Might be more Imagine / Ocean games, but I can't think of any atm. OL4 was switched to OL5 rather fast.
@akutabi I also remembered NZS used OL4, but I completed that one few months ago and noticed it was OL5 after all. Check out my longplay video if you like. There's no difference between OL4 and OL5 anyways except for the short intro.
the ocean loader music was on a few of the ocean published games. it's a very nostalgic track now, i haven't heard it since i was a pre-teen and totally forgot all about it until now ... wow music never leaves the brain it becomes hard coded, hidden in the brain but never deleted, justs waits to be activated again.
at the time I cursed my poor ass for not being able to buy a 1541, but now I'm eternally grateful for the experience of waiting for a game to load while watching and listening to the loaders. The slowly printing graphics and the wonderful music combined with huge anticipation for the game = super excitement and eternal memories!
@jesuszafra Exactly the same for me dude. I'm also 34, & have a fantastic retro collection of awesome machines/games, which all started for me on the good old C64, of which I now own 3 lol, not counting my C64 GS. I own modern consoles, but they just don't cut it like the good old days on C64. SID music alone is enough to keep me glued to it forever. The scene demos STILL being made on C64 are absolutely ASTOUNDING. Check out the 64 version of the classic Amiga demo Desert Dream..mind blowing.
Oh man, this brings back memories. Oh, the tape loader that you had to adjust with a screwdriver to get the damn thing tuned correctly, and the games that never even loaded even if you paid for them. The games also that loaded for like 15 minutes were kinda ridiculous, but there I waited patiently for them to load and watched the tranceful loading musics. Such nice memories :) This was also one of my favorites, althought the game was kinda crappy, but the loading was worth it :D
used to get all excited hearing this tune coming up 'Ah..my new game's loading'..bag of pic&n&mix my old dear had bought me from the corner shop on my lap. Golden days.
Im with you guys, im 28 and been there. Loved the intro's and thanks for the post. Hey the C64 team is bringing out a universial unit to take over the market soon huray, check it out.

ah brought a wee tear to my eyes this one...forgot all about this tune..until the first few beats and it all came flooding back!!! marvellous happy daze! probably a shite game but who cares!?escobari is right about kids would've lost interest half way through the loading screen..god im starting to sound like my old man. i remember when all this were fields etc...
@escobari I make music composed with or using Commodore computers myself. Click my name to hear some and in stereo.
Or take a look at my alternate channel ONLYGOODCOMMIE. There I showcase some more of my own music, Commodore 64 promo material and a short video I made on C64-PC networking.
@escobari How true... but beware, computer multitasking and internet high speed surfing is also affecting grown-ups too.... peple just can't concentrate anymore....
@escobari, Not me! I'm not one of the stereotypical teens today, born after the C64, but i have one fully operative. And yes, i have programmed with it.
Im 19 and used to play this when I was a kid all the time.. I didnt play nintendo or anything like that, i had my gameboy but that was it. Commodore 64 was the shit
@blade004 I still play this great Commodoregames. They´re just awesome. I´m so sad about how the gameindustry just turned. But that´s the way things go.
@blade004 I know how you feel mate, I (like you) am 35, and I cannot help being transported to the these classic days playing the computer with friends you no longer see, where life had no worries, and we could all look forward to getting home from School to play them, god damm i miss them days so much :( It has a special place in my heart. We had it my friend, we had it!
@thedigitalemotion I "was" 35 and now i am 36 :( damn time is a terrible thing.. ;) but its real nice to meet a like minded individual for whom speaks what i think and was there during that time experiencing it all in a different part of the world at the same time as me :) And oh yes, friends i longer see, no worries with the ONLY thing on your mind being the C64 and all its games :) Next for me came the Amiga which also holds a special place, but "yes" we most certainly had it buddy :)
@blade004 Im with you. Im 34 and missing these days sooo much.. Oh how i miss those many innocent days without worries, just me, my TAC-2 and C64. Games were hard as hell and almost impossible even to understand, but it was so rewarding when you got far. Now all the games are all graphical whoring with nonsense plot if at all and my mind is filled with worries of job, family and health... :(( *goes building time machine out of DeLorean and travels back to 80´s*
@HMSa77 Glad im not alone here. 39 here, own all the new consoles and old. These are classics! Im with you there man, family, losing loved ones, getting older etc. Time machine is definately on the agenda! Days of having my tamiya frog car, colecovision, nes. What simplier times we lived in. Now, everyone is walking around with cell phones stuck to their heads and is in a frikin race to do everything. We can at least say we were lucky enough to have grown up in a time with great music and games!
