  • I'm so going to make a music video for this song one day. I don't mean mixing other Rise Against music videos totally randomly and calling it fanmade, I mean writing, filming and editing it myself - got several ideas for it already. I'm just in doubt whether I should have the car CD player show "The Approaching Curve" or "[something with ambient keyboards and light percussion]". :D

Does anyone know any music with ambient keyboards and light percussion? :P

  • @SelvesteSand if ya ever make da vid tell me, i wanna see it

  • @Sukuli100 I'll try to remember that. :D

  • This song never fails to bring me to the brink of tears,

  • Whoa.... If you listen to the song for the first time you will think he is talking a concert.. but when you get to the end you start to think a little, then you put the song on again and you completely understand what the verses all talking about..........WHAT SORCERY IS THIS!

  • im so obsessed with this song it just speaks to me. It was nobodies fault that they died they were just really sad and having a rough day. everyone always blames the girl but that's not right. she really did her best she just isn't right for him. He didn't even say he was crying but he was! you can't drown in only one persons tears. tears in which WE had drowned. be a man and admit you cry. Its so sad that no one ever saw how much they were struggling or that they had a fragile relationship.

  • @SnugglesandKitties what relationship are you talking about?

  • @Sukuli100 The relationship that the main character in the song ends in the car, making his girlfriend crash, so they die, and everyone remembers them as a perfect and happy couple. Read the lyrics again. ;)

  • @SelvesteSand oh i got that, i ment like, was this based off of a real life relationship or was this a made up relationship that was used as a symbol of unseen struggles?

  • @Sukuli100 Who knows, perhaps it's based upon a real relationship, or perhaps it's just fiction. Nevertheless, I think the lyrics have three levels: The obvious with the relationship, fictional or not. Then a metaphorical level which is also about the relationship, with the car and the music inside being a metaphor for the girl, and the road and the whole world outside (melted snow, darkness, vague hints of an empending dawn and all) being a metaphor for the guy, and the curve for their breakup.

  • @Sukuli100 And then the third level with the whole story being a metaphor for the human society. The guy knew the relationship wasn't right, so he decided to change his life and move on in the right direction, but the girl couldn't accept giving up what she loved, so she just kept driving in the same direction, and thus crashing. If we don't change our ways of living, the society will crash when we run out of resources. We need to think about the environment, the resources and the animals.

  • This band. My goodness. THIS is what real music should be like. It has a message. <3 Makes me cry.

  • I hope that they play this at the concert im going to on sunday :)

  • @rono243 the best part about this is that i dont remember even commenting on this video, i was kinda happy it was somewhere i could see it

  • @AlmostaFlipinSkater go ahead bitch about politics i dont care, its more about the people posing "opinions about obama" such as that he shouldnt be in power because he is black. Political debate is one thing, racism is just dumb.

  • Awesome song. One of my favorite ones by RA. Who's the female singer who sings the "will steal tonight" part with Tim (and can be heard in some other bits)? Just curious.

Those last two lines always give me the chills, as well as the chorus.

  • wtf its a good song but sad as shit the lead singer is singing about his dead friend that died in a car crash jus sayn

  • Wow awesome sound quality!

  • Rise against is without a dont the most meaningful band out there all there lyrics just speak to you and make you realize things. Like if you agree they are the best out there

  • @Devonater789 You should check out a couple of more bands before you say that. They are great, and their lyrics are very creative, but they're not the best, nor the most meaningful.

  • @w4vezf9a Tell me a better band then.

  • @Petriunderlinex3 Depends on the person, dude :p There are a lot of bands that is just like this; kind of makes you realize things that you knew, but didn't think of and the band sorta just.. Makes you realize it through song lyrics.

  • @w4vezf9a just giv me a band.

  • @Petriunderlinex3 For Minor for example. Different genre, but makes ya pretty much realize this and that every now and again.

  • @w4vezf9a I only listen to hevy metal and rise against :]

When ever i need a cheer up rise against is going hot in my speakers.

When I'm off to to the gym Metallica is my choice.

  • @Petriunderlinex3 Yeah, Metallica is also badass :)

  • @w4vezf9a That's what I define an "opinion maker" band, like Rise Against, Fort Minor, Linkin Park... y'know, bands that make you think about stuff. RA is great at this, in my opinion.

  • this song is sad : /

  • Dammit, RA. Your lyrics have led to so many heartfelt quotes that my posting privileges on Facebook have been momentarily disabled. Thanks.

  • @UnedibleApples lol I'm on the same path

  • "As we were, so perfect, so happy.

They'll remember, only our smiles 'cause that's all they've seen.

Long since dried, when we are found, are the tears in which we had drowned.

As we were, so perfect, so happy."

Nobody ever sees the inside struggle of a real relationship. They only see the good and not the bad which is how it ends.

  • The skyline was glowing faintly with vague hints of an impending dawn.

  • Awesome song. How they blend spoken-word poetry with such powerful singing so beautifully is beyond me, but its still fucking awesome. Thank you for uploading a version of this song with decent sound quality :)

  • this is poetry just pure poetry

  • @Troutter1 i absolutely agree but if u want to hear another amazing poem:

    youtube.com/watch?v=TRcdfsJdWs4

  • my fav...... :)

  • who's teh girl singing at 2:55? i mean i know theyre backing vocals but... who is it?

  • @Sedon96 my mum .

  • and i can see three that are attention whores

  • THIS SONG REALLY MAKE'S ME FAKING CRAZYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how rise against can compile my emotions. Many songs like ready to fall gets me so psyched but this one is really touching.

  • 4 people forgot to turn.

  • @armadaofturtles usually i hate these kind of comments, but this is just beautiful.

  • 4 ppl clearly have never felt this way before and when they do they'll understand...

  • how did obama get into this??

  • What A story line..they should make it into a book

  • @royelric360 eh, maybe ride more songs of this nature, and make them into a poetry book. i can't imagine this being a very good book... but it's an amazing poem.

  • wow....people are just now realizing obama is black....and it has NOTHING to do with the song!! im getting tired of seeing these fights on every vid-people should just turn comments off if that keeps happening.

epic song, along with every other one ive heard from rise against

  • gives me chills everytime

  • A grammatically correct lyrical version of this song... Fantastic!

I love this song. It was in my head for 2 days straight, and I was dying to hear it. haha.

  • fuck the main stream music this is the shit

  • @ReaperOfDaClans what part of JUST WATCH THE VIDEO do you not understand? i mean i guess ur racist mind cant handle the simplicity of that

  • Have they ever done this song live?? :D

  • my favorite song by these guys!! :D it gives me chills everytime i listen to it.

  • geile band + besten lieder = RISE AGAINST♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • can u plz send me the link of the photo?

  • one of my fav ra songs

  • "Up ahead there was a curve approaching, she made no indications of slowing"

It's about how a guy breaks up with a girl while she's driving them somewhere and she drives them off the road, thus killing both of them.

  • this is one of the only songs that actually gives me chills.

  • This reminds me of System of a Down for some reason....

  • So beautifull.. Make me cry everytime 'cause it brings back memories.

  • @ipukrazz I believe education is a better way to help a fellow American. Give them ten grand and they may or may not use it well. Teach them job skills and ways to save money and real change will happen.

  • I belive its about a couple who seem happy to all their freinds but are truly depressed about their realtionship and cant face that it wont work out.

  • can someone tell me what this song is about???

  • @braxtonAKRIDGE its describing like a boy and a girls love as it grows to the end, as it says " the approaching curve " which in my opinion means that in every relationship theres a bump. and the approaching curve describes the way that they're about to crash :D and the lyrics just desribe all of it, like the way they're talking. and it desribes everything else

  • it's about a guy breaking up with a girl while she's driving, and in the end they all be dead

  • @ginonater or it's about a guy and a girl committing suicide but that's too simple and probably wrong though. i like to think that car itself is the girl and everything else is the guy. he talks about how different outside compared to inside and the road (outside) takes a curve, so he's changing the way relationship is heading but she doesn't intend to turn, hence breaking up.

  • @buddhika216 i agree dude.

  • @braxtonAKRIDGE

It is up to you to dertemine what it mean to you!

  • @0BenSmith im canadain and i see obama on the news all the time i see him doing these things like national health care and closing guantonimo bay. i dont see where that is a bad thing canada has national health care. i think its funny how the americans only come back so far to your support of there president is to call you a fucking retard proving the hostility and lack of intelligence of there country, probably why at least 90% of the world doesnt like you. canada is on national health care :)

  • @0BenSmith taking money from the rich to pay for the poor sounds like socialism to me. America was built for people to be successful if they want to work hard AND be smart. You be being from some other country will never understand that. Also please stop trying to act high and mighty by pretending you know America better than America.

  • 'mericaaaaa

    fuck yea!

  • The truth has been spoken.

  • okay, well put but just because they are poor doesn't mean they aren't smart/successful sometimes its not their fault. It's selfish that you don't want help a fellow American, sorry every one isn't as rich as you

  • lol Mk please people the song is not what it's real meaning is it's what YOU get out of the song personally i agree with sonicriders1234 most that its about brake up and stuff lol it makes most sense without really stretching it lol... but whatever you get out it is the only meaning you need stop arguing

  • the whole song is about a break up people jeez...now everyone shut the hell up

  • The chorus is about how our current standard of living is higher than at any time during recorded history. It says how future civilizations will see our great and lasting achievements, and not our fall. They will strive to be like us and will ultimately make the same mistakes we did. The approaching curve is the approaching (or current) exponential growth of any number of things: global average temperature, population growth, resource usage, etc. that could destroy human civilization.

  • no it isnt....

  • I'm amazed I've yet to see any interpretation like mine.

My interpretation is that the song is a metaphor for any number of environmental issues right now. The man is humanity, and the woman is the Earth. The argument in the second verse is representative of the current debate between environmentalists and corporations exploiting the environment. The man also represents the opinions of mankind as a whole.

  • Heres my take on it, They used to be a perfect couple but The guys got a job far away and is leaving, the girlfriend or wife offers to drive him to the airport, but whats shes reall doing is killing them both, because she cant imagine her on her own without him

  • @Thewarrior26 na dude, heres that part where he was saying this is whats best for you, for me (or maybe just for me) he's just breaking up with her and she cant accept the fact that the relationship is over

  • Rise Against best band ever.

  • @Crazyforever000 of all time

  • why is there a bitch fight about Americans and peoples opinions about Obama on a rise against video? that doesnt make any sense what so ever. honestly if your fighting over something on youtube, with someone across an ocean you need to get a life

its a good song btw :)

  • @musicis4ever514 It's YT, half the shit here doesn't 'make any sense whatsoever'.

  • @musicis4ever514 obama is black >.<

  • @musicis4ever514 actually, it makes perfect sense considering the band's name and their lyrics.

  • @musicis4ever514

Actually, discussing about politics is THE purpose of RISE AGAINST.Just not on this video. Alive&Well, Great Awakening,Black Masks&Gasoline,Blood-Red White&Blue,State of the Union,The First Drop,Life Less Frightening,Tip the Scales,Swing Life Away,Chamber the Cartridge, Ready To Fall, Bricks, Prayer of the Refugee, Drones, Worth Dying For, Behind Close Doors, Hero of War,Architects, Help is on the Way, Disparity By Design, Satellite, Survivor Guilt, Gentlemans Coup, Endgame

  • @musicis4ever514 lol youve been getting hate on this comment for a year? sorry mate. but poltics have alot to do with rise against not with this song though.

  • ahhh, youtube beef

  • @ vashtinerada

i think you can search for more meaning in almost every song.. but who knows what rise against means to say with this song..

  • hey do you have the download link to this song. its fantastic.

  • in a way this song is depressing

  • It's got a pretty simple meaning, really. Something huge happened in their relationship and she is ending it. She doesn't wanna live without him, she's killing them both.

  • dont put me under ground....please love, give me the wheel....the car pressed on faster....up ahead there was a curve approaching, she made no indacation of slowing.

    WOW

  • This is kinda like what just happened to avenged sevenfold and the rev. they were so perfect, so happy, and then... the rev died ;( RIP REV!! <3

  • it's a metaphor for the government in US. "As we were, so perfect, so happy" the bliss we felt when US was first formed. the "suicide" is metaphorical for Bush 'driving' us into the self-destruction of us all. You people need to wake up if it takes a 14 year old to see this. I mean, honestly... How many of you thought of this? And these 'deep meanings' aren't actually that deep! it's the truth, and people don't see it. And it takes a genius and an idiot to make it clear to most people.

  • @vashtinerada I'm sorry, but analysis of the rest of the lyrics just doesn't add up to this being an extended metaphor for the Us government. an Extended metaphor maybe, but i dont think it's the way you percieve it to be. Never discard the obvious meaning of the lyrics. IT's more than likely that this IS about a relationship, but there's also a deeper meaning underneath.

  • @vashtinerada yea ok sure. cause like bush did anything to mess up this courntry. ur retarded. he didnt do anything wrong. Obama on the other and, is MAJORLY fucking up the country. In a little bit, well be the Socialist States of America thanks to him.

  • Bush= war profiteering dumbass Obama is not socialist.

  • @argo987 yea ok obamas not a socialist, and the sky isnt blue either. UR FUCKING RETARDED. have u been living in a cave? do u watch the news?? open ur eyes and ears. Just wait and c what happens to this country with him as president

  • U think Obama is a socialist? LMAO u Americans really are right wing aren't u

  • @0BenSmith WOW i luv how some kid from another country is telling us about our president and what he does. UR FUCKING RETARDED. its actually kkinda funny how retarded some people r in this world. just like u... open ur ears and eyes and watch america go down the drain

  • Lol ok I admit I don't live there but so far I've seen a guy try to start a national health service and close guantanamo bay, doesn't look so bad to me. Feel free to fill me in, oh and he's not a socialist, not that I think socialism is a bad thing. Look at the government in France, they are socialists amd they're getting on fine. (Oh btw don't get socialism confused with communism, that's like confusing conservatism with facism)

  • @0BenSmith o believe me, i know exactly what the difference is between socialism and communism is. im telling u hes a socialist. hes taking money away from the rich and giving it to the poor, hes giving everyone equal healthcare, and hes taking charge of small businesses. not to mention, hes also letting terrorists out of guantanimo bay and jail and which is totally wrong because theyre gonna run back to their country and attack us again. obamas been president for 1 year and theres been 2...

  • @0BenSmith sorry i ran out of room... theres benn 2 terrorist attacks in his first year and with bush, theres been 1 the entire 8 years. i hope i knocked sum sence into u with this conversation and ull read more about it and c that its actually true.

  • @0BenSmith

    Hey dispshit.

    I'm American, I believe Obama's a socialist, and I'm not Republican.

So shut your fucking stereotypical, generalizing mouth before I go take my happy ass all the way to the UK to break your fucking mouth.

  • @Grave187RIP13 yes thank u for agreeing with me. it feels like im being attacked in here because people dont know wtf theyre talking about and because they dont read or c whats actually going on.

  • I'm not trying to offend anybody and unlike 1l0v3b4s3b4ll or Grave187RIP13 I haven't actually insulted anyone. Ok, now call me naive but I would blame the terrorists for attacking not the president Grave187RIP13 good luck finding me in the UK, tell me how that works out. Now as for being a socialist maybe this is just a difference in opinion, I would call him liberal not socialist. As for Americans being right wing, I'm sure many of u aren't so no offence to anyone.

  • @0BenSmith

I was only offending him to defend myself.

As he made the most ignorant assumption about ALL Americans.

  • Anyway, he has closed Guantanamo and tried to start an National Health Service, what do u say to that?

  • @0BenSmith lol closing guantanimo bay is bad idiot. if u do that then all the terrorists illegals go back to their countries and attack us again. and the healthcare thing might sound good, but its actually REALLY bad. y dont u read more about it

  • This is the awesomest song in the world to me right now. I love it but it makes me depressed..."Up ahead there was a curve approaching, she made no indications of slowing" she clearly is killing them both, purposley...

  • I love this song so much. Its just that with the whole song i feel sad... Just the concept of this song is depressing, yet somehow i love this

  • i*m thinking its definately a metaphor... i mean... it probably is about a couple in a fight.... but there probably, is really deep meaning hidden in there somewhere

  • this song does have deep meaning but it is SO easy to understand. There really is only one or two ways to take it.

  • that may be... but as you have probably noticed with this band... they tend to put really deep meaning in either all, or most of their songs, and if you watch some of the music vidios, they completely change the meaning of the song. i will say this... the chorus is a form of irony!

  • Um, does his voice sound just slightly like Demetri Martin's to anyone else?

  • Hmm...maybe just a bit in this song

  • their arguing and the girlfriend wants to kill them both

  • actually, i dont really see much of a metaphor. i see a couple in a car in a fight, about to break up. and the girl drives the car into the curb, killing them both

  • im thinking suicide

  • @rocker6427 dont suicide suicide is bad

  • Yes I agree with super momo about the meaning of the lyrics.

I think it's the best song of the band. One of the best I've ever listened ( I talk about lyrics and melody)

  • couldn't it be that the last sentence of the soung means that she actually crashed the car on purpose because she didn't want to live on this way....just can't stop thinking about this...

  • No, I think the ending is meant a little different. They didnt drowned in the tears, its just a metaphor, that because of the tears, they dont pay attention, miss the "curve" while driving at a highspeed, cause their cadence overtakes their attention

  • "up ahead there was a curb approaching, she made no indication of slowing" clearly suicide..

  • yea you're right. believe it or not I actually copied and pasted that "description" from a website (no joke) to see what others would think.

I deleted all of the posts I wrote because I didn't want to make an ass out of myself ;)

  • I have listened to this like 3 times in a row, it is just amazing, the words are so deep, i love it

  • banana person. A guy has just broken up with his girlfriend in the car. The girl gets really emotional and asks, why are you doing this to me. The guy says hes doing it cause he thinks its best. The girl is totally emotional and suddenly she doesnt see anything outside. They doesnt slow down, and both die at the ending, as the lyrics say the tears are drowned. they fall into water and die. When it says we are perfect that means that everyone thought they were the perfect coupue but werent.

  • I don't think they actually drowned in the water, i think thats more of a metaphor. They were really sad, thus drowning in tears, even though everyone thought they were happy.

  • I have watched this video over and over. I understnad every single word, but can someone explain the meaning of this to me? I really dont get it!

  • This song is so awsome! Tim is a very nice singer all his song have a meaning and i really like it! Two friend of my football coach had an accident and they did not survive... My coach is a very nice man.. Before a game he told us: The life can be very short and nobody wishes bad for somebody else, so give the hand to the other players when they fall, they are all people like us..Have fun and take advantage of the life.

    I will always remember.

  • @lespaulultra712 All coaches should be like that! I'm so glad to hear that story, because I really love when people take their time to teach other people how to respect other people. :D

  • @SelvesteSand That's true ;)

  • @lespaulultra712 I'm going to see them live in a month! :D

Sorry, just had to share. xD

  • @SelvesteSand hahah i'm happy for you man! I saw them 4 months ago, they gave an awesome show! I'm sure yours will be as goood!! goooooood shoooow!

  • yes yes. very deep. they believe in so much. like hero of war is REALLLY DEEP. n if you watch the vid for prayer of the refugee its about outsourcing. they believe in everything that is good. the whole band are vegetarians also. everysong has a meaning to it, you just have to pay attention

  • except the drummer, he eats meat

  • No he's a vegetarian not a vegan I heard.

  • This is a good song. I've been listening to Suffering and Witness for awhile now and I really like the Chorus and the talky verse on this one. But the quality is kind of bad. But it has lyrics.

  • "ilovejustinbieberr" you're an idiot, if you had read my question you would have known what part to listen to, you dumb fuck. "Lacho2k3" thanks for trying man

  • That's all they see. So true! So epically true.

  • its "they'll remember only your smiles" other than that great job

  • Love this song, 5/5

  • anybody know who the chick is that sings at the end of this song?

  • what chick:S

  • the (will steal tonight) part?

dunno, they have a chick that sings in the chorus of 'Roadside' but it doesnt say there is anyone special doing it

  • This song tells the story of a guy who is breaking up with his girlfriend, but makes the mistake of doing it while she's driving. The listener is left to decide their fate, but it doesn't look good, as the last line is "Ahead there was a curve approaching, she made no indication of slowing.".... thats wat the website said it was about. its a very good song but kind of sad

  • :[ sad

  • If you want to look at it very literally, yeah.

  • It's pretty much about how relationships seem straighforward until you reach a curve, and at these curves it is very possible for someobody to get hurt emotionally. That's how I understand the song anyway.

  • thats pretty much it

  • so the moral of the story/song is theyr falling off the curve?

the curve of relationship and curve of the road?

  • yes they fall off the road

  • do they crash at the end?

  • awsom song 5/5.

  • neither

  • this song is awesome but sad and touching and it makes me think about a lot of people i know
