I've just listened to 7 different versoins of this song, all great renditions Stevie,Marvin,JB, Wilson P, Levi Stubbs really took off, however Bobby Hebb's is still the standard and most moving.
This song has an harmony great. The chords are joined with class and intelligence. These were the 60s and 70s.Today, you have crap doing with every ethnic group that made of the market/.
that song Sunny reminds me of the civil rights era of the 1960s in that we have a lots of assisanations and lost black singers like Jesse Belvin,Sam Cooke,Otis Redding,Little Willie John (who was convicted and died in prison) and Frankie Lymon and others
I loved this song as a kid in the 60's... so sorry to find out about the circumstances surrounding it... so sad, never knew what it was really about. .... just a great song and he had a great voice, easy to listen to... God Bless for making this song, Peace to everyone everywhere
Oye rumperst es verdad que es preciosa... ¿pero has escuchado la de Robert Mitchum? Yo también lo siento por Stevie y Marvin... pero es mi preferida...
@dancingoncars Yeah, I heard the behind the scenes on this song. It was inspired by a woman who smiled at him on the street one day and changed his mood totally... Thus, "Thank you for the smile upon your face..."
For those of you who were not around in 1966, including "montezband" who uploaded a cover of this song to YouTube, Bobby's last name is pronounced HEEB.
Nocaro, thanks for the background information. It's such a sad story, yet we got this beautiful song out of it. Now I'll think of my own brother whenever I hear it.
I think those dislikes were accidental
